Greater than one weekI just spent a week camping on the Olympic peninsula in Washington state. For every fire I started, I used a few cotton balls as tinder (you could just as easily use cat-tail heads) and literally had a fire with one strike every time. Ive used it quite a bit since I bought it, and it has never disappointed me. It throws a LOT of hot sparks and is easy to aim. Yes, you could use a smaller, cheaper ferro-rod to start a fire, but it will be much more labor intensive. Just a few strikes with this, and if youve got decent tinder, youll have a fire.

> 3 dayThe bayite 1/2 X 6 inch flint is very good. The steel striker works, but I would recommend using something with a longer edge for striking. UPDATE: 5/8/2019 Bayite 1/2 X 6 inch ferrocerium rod kit is one of the best striker fire starters I have used. This item produces good hot sparks and will start a fire with in seconds, providing you prepare your tender as needed. I Have made several fires with ease . I grew up making fires using 2 sticks from a Yucca Plant by hand. Making fires with the Bayite 1/2X6 fire starter rod kit is quicker and easier. This item is durable and will last for a long time.

> 3 dayThis thing make tons of sparks. If you can’t make a fire with this thing you need to stay out of the woods. Highly recommended.

> 3 dayThis thing is pretty darn nifty - my buddy finally got a fire going with it after about an hour of trying, and that was the first time hed ever tried to start a fire using no lighters,etc... The key thing that helped him is someone showed him to hold the knife you are using to spark this ferrorod still/stationary and pull the ferrorod back so the sparks can be shed closer to the tinder.

> 3 dayI like this alot, most of the strikers and flints I bought before this one, they worked but after a few scrapes, it was done or throws dull or very little sparks, HOWEVER, this thing being as thick as it is 1. It makes it more easier and more comfortable to strike with 2. The sparks it throws are a real good amount of sparks I feel like this will never run out definitely worth the purchase whether your a camper or a collector, this will do! Totally worth the purchase.

Greater than one weekNice long steel. Not as soft as Id wish but for a second bag that stays in my car itll fill its niche in the fire kit. Provided striker is actually ideal for the job. The plastic tab fits my medium hands just fine.
