> 3 dayShould I tell you this is a five star rod???? Who knows!!! But, it is pretty neat!!! I first bought the four inch rod, and thought it was so cool.. Played with it, but never started a fire with it.... The covid thing screwed up my camping trips!!! And, really, I am not a fire builder anyway, I can, but, I usually dont.. However, I like toys and when I need to spend money, I buy toys, for the outdoors!!! Turns out, it was fun to do sparks with, but, not much else for the time being, but, then I saw the 6 inch rod, and after much agony over wanting another toy, I ordered this big boy!!! Does it work, yes. Can you build fires with it.. Dont know.. I just stand outside in the dark and make pretty sparks with it... I have not built a campfire in about 10 years.. No need, I carry a backpacking stove!!!! Works fast and clean!!!! But, fires use to be fun, and I can image I will try to get out and build some, just to see if I can do it... My only real fire building was when I was camped on gravel bars at night, while doing overnight canoe trips.. Fires and smoke kept the skeeters off of me, after I got real smoky!!!! But, in case you were wondering, I also bought the little key chain fire rods.. They are useless, but super cute.. I have one in my pocket right now... When I need to feel manly, I take out my keychain, dig out my swiss army knife, and make sparks out in the driveway!!! Feels good... So, I suggest you too buy a whole collection of these fire rods, then go out in the yard, in the dark, and make lots of sparks.. As cheap as they are, we should have sparking contests, and see who can make the most sparks, and for the longest time, before the rod is no longer useful... Wear it out.. its a challenge.. I dont think you can do it.. At least I have never heard of anyone wearing one out... But, if, you play with it enough, you just might be able to do it... Fun thing to do on a warm summer night... Try it...

Greater than one weekHUGE and throws off way more sparks than the other two smaller fire steels I have. I though the little scraper that comes with it would be silly and regulated to the trash but it actually sparks better that my knife. Great and hopefully the last of these I will ever need to buy.

Greater than one weekNot being a survivalists, but thought this might be cool to have, I bought it. It came with no direction, nothing. Just a little box. I had to google how to use it. You need to have a piece of steel handy to strike against it. Who knew? Anyway, I took a kitchen butter knife, and a napkin. I did catch it on fire, after 4 minutes of rubbing the flint. So, ya it works.

07-06-2025At 6x 1/2 this Ferro rod is a macker! I like the Hole & Paracord because Ive had little luck with handles that are glued to the rods. If reliability is what you are looking for, You can Rely on the glue to fail and the handle to fall off 90% of the time. Ill fashion a small handle out of duct tape(works great as tinder) and maybe a couple feet of ss wire(snare etc,)and give my firesteel more than one function.
