Greater than one weekAnyone getting into photography will most likely start looking for new glass before too long. As countless people have said before the 50mm is an essential lens to have. The 1.8 aperture is very nice for getting that bokeh (blurry background) we all want. On a side note most people buying the 1.8 over the 1.4 or 1.2 are probably shooting on an APS-C sensor camera versus a full-frame. You must know that the f/1.8 is really only going to be achieved on a full frame camera. Due to the 1.6 crop factor you need to multiply this times the f stop to get the full frame equivalent. That is buy no means a knock on this lens though. I think this is the best lens value out there. On another side note you will hear that the 50mm focal length is closest to what the human eye actually sees. This is true on a full frame camera, but on an APS-C sensor you must again multiply the crop factor only now it will be against the focal length (50mm in this case). That would give you a 80mm equivalent which puts you into the telephoto range. Hopefully this helps you out.

Greater than one weekBest little lens for the money. Since this is for a crop frame camera, the 50mm isnt really exact. So keep that in mind.

Greater than one weekDecent lens, build is better than previous model. I cant honestly tell a lot of difference in clarity or bokeh. Focusing does seem to be a tad able to be done a bit closer in but nothing drastic. There is less noise so that is a plus. For a cheap lens you cant go wrong..

> 3 dayI love this little lens. With the aperture of 1.8 it gives such a crisp photo, and for the price you cant beat. I recommend this lens for anyones first lens they wish to buy after their kit lens.

> 3 dayThis is the worst lens I have bought/used. I do not understand all the rave over this lens. It looks and feels like a cheap toy. It has a horrible time focusing. Searches and searches even in good light. It is noisy. And the photos have no life to them. Just plain boring. The price is the only decent thing about this lens. I would prefer the kit lens over this thing any day. In fact I am thinking about trying the Yongnuo 50mm. It gets decent reviews and cant be any worse than this Canon.

Hey
> 3 dayThis is my go-to lens for shooting everything from portraits to landscapes! This lens always delivers beautiful, sharp photos. My only complaint would be the that while taking a video it produces a loud clicking noise when set to auto focus. Apart from this though, great lens!
