Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 is STM

I bought the lens for its focal length. This plus the factory lens gives me a good variety with no overlap. Only negative is the speed of the lens.

I did extensive research before making this purchase since in my mind, cheap = bad for lenses. But all of the positive aspects I had read about it, the impressive sharpness throughout the focal range, solid image stabilization, and the ultra-quiet, smooth handling, all turned out to be true. I have been able to get quite soft/silky bokeh results with certain images (fully extended focal length and good separation of fore vs. background) however I think this is where the difference between this and an L lens becomes a little more apparent. The higher priced glass, from my experience purely of looking at other peoples images, seems to produce more buttery bokeh ... however, again, this can depend on the photo and the camera (crop vs. full frame sensor). Also, keep in mind that its not the fastest glass on the market, so if you are shooting in low light conditions, just be conscious of the F/5.6 limitations at 250 mm (much of this can be taken care of with increased ISO and the IS turned on). In the end, my motto has always been that its not the what, but the who and the how that determines a great image. If you have a solid understanding of photography and a good command of your photographic tools, this lens will not get in the way of creating a winning photo! And for this price, it really is a no-brainer.

Wish I had purchased a better zoom. This isnt much better than the standard lens that came with my camera.

great lens. able to take pics at my childs baseball game with close-ups and action shots. great for a novice photographer like me!

This lens is magnificent, outstanding focus, and being 55 - 250, it covers a great area, I use it to shoot pics at the grandkids sporting events, amazing pics! For a budget friendly lens highly recommended

I bought this lens a couple of months ago and am impressed - its rare to find a lens with image quality like this at a price this low! The image stabilization works well and the autofocus is responsive and quiet. I havent attempted late evening or night photos with it, but found it to produce excellent resuts in daylight shooting. The sample photo was shot through the glass out a window in my home, the second photo is a blow up detail of the first.

Having looked at several glowing reviews on UTube I decided to buy this lens. It was ordered mid day on Dec 22 and received mid day Dec 23 - amazing Amazon Prime delivery service, and in time for Christmas! Price was extremely good, at a saving of $140 off the retail value of $399. So far the lens appears to be exactly as advertised, and reviewed by other very satisfied purchasers. Great accessory for my new Rebel T5i. Merry Christmas to me!

This lens dies exactly what it claims. The auto focus is quiet and quick and the picture quality excellent.
