I should start this review off by saying that I am NOT an artist. I am a grandma that just loves to color and through the years Ive added different pencils and pens to my coloring arsenal. Ive tried a variety of water color pencils... Faber Castell, Castle, Artiza but was never attached to the results because no matter how many techniques I tried, all of them left residual pencil marks. I stumbled across several watercolor tutorials on Pinterest and the Caran Dache Neocolor II was a consistent medium used in some of my favorite finished coloring pages from other enthusiasts. The price was definitely a sticker shock but I had already spent about the same amount on other watercolor pencils (that for all intents and purposes were now gathering dust) so I decided to treat myself to an early birthday present, bit the financial bullet and placed my order. I have to say it was the best coloring purchase I have made. The crayons melt like butter, are incredibly vibrant and when it dries the slightest amount of water can be used for additional blending. It leaves no residual marks and because of this you can literally scribble it on the page versus having to be precise with pencil strokes. The pics are my first attempts... The Kerby Rosanes Worlds within Worlds moon pic is a WIP that is 100% Caran Dache Neocolor II.... the finished Hannah Karlzon potion page was my first attempt to complete a background, add a galaxy to one of the potion bottles and show a unique blend in the blue bottle. Other mediums were also used..... the newest Nelco Neco Story of Precious Cats shows a condensed early galaxy in the crystal ball. I absolutely love, love LOVE these crayons and am so glad I bit that financial bullet and ordered the largest set straight out of the gate. Best coloring purchase ever and I use them all the time!

Of them I use them on campus. I have used them on paper along with watercolors and acrylic. Paint mix the medias together.

I used to use these as face-paint when I was little. Now that I have a 3-year-old son, theyre great for the exact same purpose. Just dip the tips in water, and draw on your face paint. Then wipes straight off with a wet paper towel or baby wipe!

I bought these for scoring dart games. With the advent of digital bowling scorers the production of hydro pencils has stopped. There a several places that use acrylic scoreboards. These are great for that. The colors are not always visible but stay away fro the darker ones and your good. They did break when I used them first. It took some getting used to. I purchased a holder which is pricey but it help the crayons last longer.

These things are really cool. Theyre hard for me to use with precision but I love using them for backgrounds in watercolor portraits or landscapes. Or for your underpanting in something. Why I like most about them is that the line of pigment that is laid down can completely be rubbed out by a brush. You cant tell where it was originally laid down! Its amazing. That being said though, the pigment doesnt lift very well, at least mine didnt, and they are small, the actual size of a cartilage crayon. I wish they would have made them thicker or maybe longer

My kids had hours and hours of creative fun with these when they were young. They work well on paper, either dry like pastels or wet like water color. But the best thing they do is paint non-toxic vibrant colors on skin! Kids can do their own face paint with these water soluble clay crayons and it all washes off with water. (I found them by searching online for the company and emailing them to find out if they still made these and where I could buy them. Note: they no longer advertise the body paint function because the crayons are not FDA approved for that purpose)
