I dont know which other editions Ive played, but Ive played several different ones at various friends homes and tap rooms, and this is just as fun. I have no idea what changed, other than removing Settlers of from the name, so dont bother buying if you own an old version

A fun game to bring to parties and ruin friendships. This is similar to monopoly, but with more risk and yelling. With rules that are pretty simple, you could start playing out of the box in a matter of minutes. The pieces and tiles came out perfectly, which was to my surprise reading other reviews. I must have been lucky. Overall, I love this purchase.

Gave to a 24 year who requested the game. He had played before and now is overseas in the service. He loved the game here and wished he had it there to play. Therefore Im going to give it a high rating since he loves it so much.

Ive been hearing great things about this game for nearly 10 years now, so I finally decided to buy it for cold winter game-nights. I do not regret it for one bit! Its a ton of fun, and it took nearly no time at all to learn; none of us who knew how to play Catan prior. Best of all, unlike most strategy games, Catan generally take less than an hour to play! Which is much better than the games we were playing before (Game of Thrones, Trivial Pursuit), which you had to set aside a good 4-5 hours. Probably the best thing about this game is that it is so simple. A lot of friends dont like playing board games because they are so complex that you need to play 3-4 times before you finally have a good grasp on the rules. When games take 4 hours, its pretty hard to convince them to sit down and play. Not with Catan! Rules are simple enough that after the first few rounds, they have the idea down.

Such a fun game! Dont try to learn it if you are tired. You will be frustrated. BUT, it is totally worth it. Amazon price was $12 lower than Walmart (and every other retailer).

We love Catan. This was a great set. The board is well-packaged and the instructions are clear. It does take a round, ideally with someone whos played before, to get the hang of it, but after that everyone comes back for more.
