This was one of the first games that my family played together after the Monopoly days of childhood. Id recommend checking out Wil Wheaton play with some of his friends on his youtube series Tabletop to get a better idea of the rules and gameplay than I could ever provide in written form.

Best board game of all time. More fun than any video game, perfect for parties, assuming of course that everyone already knows the game. Otherwise, the game takes much too long to explain.

A great game for the whole family. Extension packs can be purchased once everyone masters the basic game.

I received double road pieces and no settlements, cities, or the robber piece with my game :(

This is a fun game! Very addicting. My husband and I sneak away into a room, close the door, and play this game while the baby is sleeping. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because for the price. the gamemakers could have made all the game pieces WAY better. Come on! Full price its almost $50, but the game board is just cardboard (and not really THAT nice for the price), and the pieces are sort of cheapy feeling. Anyways, fun game. Definitely recommend.

Ever play Monopoly for 6 hours and then try to physically harm one of your family members? Well this game will amplify that frustration you felt when someone made a real estate deal that cut you out of the lead into a towering frenzied rage as you watch an alliance between the other teams doom your settlement. You will suspect all of the other players of being in league against you, and you will do everything in your power to make sure their settlement doesnt succeed. When the game finally ends and you come up for air, you will look around the table and wonder if you ever really knew the other players. Were they ever your friends? Could you ever really trust them? Things will be different from now on... Seriously though, this is a creative and imaginative game and because there are nearly endless combinations and ways of arranging the board every new game can be a completely different experience. The directions make the game seem more complicated than it really is, but I think that the nature of the game appeals to those with nerdier inclinations (no offense meant to the nerd set. Shine on you crazy diamonds). Either way, buy this game, read the instructions (thoroughly) and then keep your eyes peeled, because your opponents will quickly realize there are no friendships across the board in Catan, and your success hinges on their destruction.
