> 3 dayI set up the air purifier and put it on Eco to start. I was concerned because for the first 2 hours the device just showed blue - meaning air quality was good. I was worried it would stay like that all the time. I have a gas stove without great ventilation. I have the unit set up in my dining room - about 15 feet away from the oven(in a straight line - not an open space so a wall separating the unit from the kitchen). The unit turned to purple 3 minutes after I turned the burner on - and red about 5 minutes in - And stayed on throughout me cooking. Once I turned the stove off the unit went back to blue about 5-6 minutes later. The same thing happens if I happen to - ya know - maybe take a puff of something quickly indoors. Even when I’m 20 feet + away the unit turns on to clear the air. On top of all this - I have had issues with frequent bloody noses. That issue has improved since I started running the air filter. This was not the reason for getting the unit but has been a bonus benefit. I think all the above circumstantial evidence does somewhat prove that this machine in fact makes a big difference. I think this unit belongs in every home.

Greater than one weekThis is the best air purifier I have ever owned. I love the timer and air speed controls. I like the ionizer option. The filters are expensive from the manufacturer, but better priced on Amazon. This air purifier is working great to keep my house purified due to the current air pollution-wild fire smoke currently in the northeast where I live.

> 3 dayIn AZ where it’s super dusty. Had bad allergies and dust constantly. This really improved my quality of life. It can get pretty loud on max setting.

> 3 dayJust received this and it’s working well so far. Four stars because this was meant to replace a fan in the bedroom that is used for white noise while sleeping. There are only three fan speeds, and there needs to be one more between 2 and 3. Two is very quiet, almost imperceptible. 3 is very loud with a continuous high-pitched whine in the background. We’re going to keep the Coway for air purification, but we’re having to keep the white noise fan as well. Not quite what we had hoped.

> 3 dayQuietly clears the air of irritating particles. I wake without stuffiness. The only complaint is that the light on the unit that reports air quality is annoying when trying to sleep so I cover it with a towel.

> 3 dayIt’s easy to pull apart for cleaning. I use a furniture brush attachment and vacuum the outside and inner permanent screen most regularly. It also requires a damp cotton swab cleaning of the dust sensor fairly regularly—but that’s also quick. It was smelling mildewy after about a year, and changing the carbon pre-filter wasn’t helping, so I tried soaking the permanent screen in our big sink with warm water, baking soda and a little dish soap for a few minutes. I didn’t need to scrub or anything—just rinsed and propped it up in a safe spot to dry. It looked so much cleaner—and the thing hasn’t smelled since! I hadn’t realized how dirty it was. I’ll probably need to do that yearly or so I’d guess.

> 3 dayI got my first Airmega back in September, and I snagged a 2nd one thanks to a Black Friday deal in mid-November. Obviously, I really liked the first unit which we use in our living room. It cleans the air on the same level as my old Rabbit Minus A2 which is now approaching 14 years old (for real, I just checked my order history here since I bought it on Amazon in 2009 ), and the Rabbit looks and runs like new (Im amazed how well it has held up). However, unlike the Rabbit, this Coway Airmega has much more affordable filter replacement options and has the added benefit of turning the ionizer on/off. I usually like to keep it on myself (makes the air smell crisper), but it is nice to have the ability to toggle it on/off. Seemingly able to clean as well as my Rabbit and operate at a similar noise level, I didnt see the need to spend hundreds more on another brand. About the noise: the Airmega operates at a very acceptable noise level when on level 2. I keep it there for the most part since its not loud while still moving a ton of air (blows your hair up if you lean over it). If were vacuuming and cleaning, I bump it up to the max, and it sounds more like a vacuum cleaner at that level. Fine by me since you can feel its moving a massive amount of air, and thats what I want when were cleaning and dust is flying, my dogs dander and hair is getting shaken up into the air, etc... this thing has resulted in nearly no dust in the living area around it. It really sucks up the junk floating about. It isnt the prettiest thing in the world but you could absolutely do worse, and at least it has a fairly slim profile. Were able to tuck it behind a recliner where you dont even see it (in a corner), and thanks to the low noise level, no visitors even realize its there. The lowest level is extremely quiet, but it moves such little air, I cant imagine it being useful. Thats the curse with all these units, even my much more expensive Rabbit. Whisper quiet at low levels is nice, but if I can feel more air pressure exhaling out of my nose than from whats coming out of the unit, Ill opt for a bit more noise. The reason I listed this as 2 stars is because on one hand, I couldnt bring myself to putting it at 1 star given how great the filtration is and the low noise from the unit. Those are huge positives for me and especially given the price point. But, what kills this for me is an apparent lack of support by the manufacturer. I found that out recently when I accidentally tore a hole in the pre-filter, meaning the piece that comes with the unit and is washable, not the filters that you buy as a pack and replace as needed. The pre-filter is apparently not sold by anyone on earth other than Coway, and despite having it listed on their website, its been sold out for weeks. I suspect much longer since I see reviews here mentioning the exact same problem. I contacted their support on the website, asking when will this be back in stock? I was sent a robotic, unhelpful response, a scripted paragraph about how my order (I dont have an order, thats kind of the issue here...I want to make one) will end up canceled if the out of stock item does not end up coming back in stock, and that they dont know when or IF the item will ever come back in stock. It reads like a very generic message they send for any questions about out of stock items, so I really dont know if this is an indication they never plan to produce more pre-filters or....maybe they randomly will one day and by luck Ill open the website at that exact moment to happen to buy one before its gone again? Yeah, that kills it for me. If I cant get another pre-filter, Im not going to keep replacing the replaceable filters. Ill get another air purifier that has actual manufacturer support. The whole point of the pre-filter is that it serves to collect the big stuff coming in to your purifier before it hits your replaceable filters. With a gaping hole in my pre-filter, all kinds of stuff is getting sucked right in and up against the replaceable filters, both reducing air flow and killing the life of my filters (and making them less effective). Simple little hole, big problem. My Rabbit Minus A2 pre-filter, on the other hand, is original. Its never torn a hole, and Ive cleaned it who knows how many of times, not necessarily gently either. Its far superior to the quality of the Airmega pre-filter. Will the Airmega even turn on 14 years from now? Ill never know since Ill have disposed of it well before then. So, as much as I love this unit, I dont love this brand, and Ill move on once my filters expire. Theres better, more dedicated brands out there who will gladly continue to sell you replacement parts for as long as youll buy them.

> 3 dayI love this purifier!! I was told I had allergies so I purchased this and see a big improvements in my eye irritation. I put it in my room and the air smells so fresh. The buttons light up bright on top, I just lay a black cloth just to cover the buttons at night or it makes for a good night light if you want. It was a windy day and there is construction directly behind my home. The purifier was near my back open door and immediately the sensor turned red. I closed the door and the sensor went back to green. My eyes look and feel so much better since Ive been using this purifier. I will be buying another one for a different room but for now I move it around.

> 3 dayHave been battling with the good ol blocked and runny nose here in the Alps for a while now so decided to research air purifiers a bit. Yes, I would not have imagined ever needing one in Switzerland, with the crisp bottled air gently flowing through your nostrils and down your throat like some kind of gaseous honey, but somehow the change of seasons make the year-round smorgasbord of flowers just explode with pollen, hacking away at nose-hairs with tiny little swords and attacking my pure innocent sinuses. Its nasty. So as all modern day hunter gatherers do, I used my corporate facilities to hunt down and order the most promising device for keeping these little pollen and dust villains at bay, which seemed to be a toss-up between the Blue air 403 and the Coway AP-1512. I decided on the Coway for three reasons – Firstly People In The Know About Unseen Things In The Air (PITKAUSITA) seemed to rave about; Secondly it was easy to drag around the house and didn’t look like a giant 1992 80286 desktop PC (but more on that later as it had me fooled); and lastly because its ongoing maintenance, such as filters etc, seemed a bit more affordable in the long run. Mission accomplished I ordered with international delivery via USA (as somehow you cannot seem to get these Coways anywhere in Europe) and eagerly awaited my pollen and dust busting Chuck Norris, following his travels around the world with one eye while also tracking my power transformer/converter (for 240 to 110 downscaling) with the other, in a very chameleon like multitasking fashion. The Coway arrived first and without much fuss in a nondescript brown box (kudos to Amazon logistics), but when I peeled it out of that boring box, the real butterfly emerged. The actual box was covered in pictures of happy people and performance promises, and after oo-ing and aa-ing at that for a bit and wiuth new levels of expectation, I ripped it open (gently) and the gasped as the Conway emerged like a shiny new high Russian matryoshka doll. Somewhere someone said it looks like an old iPod but to me it looked more like an iPod Shuffle slinked off and had a steamy time with a big glossy subwoofer and that this was the result. Very glossy thing, rounded edges, secret doors and latches, well constructed. It will not look out of place in the Fifth Avenue Apple store, parked next to your Rolls Royce or in an audiophile sound room. Yes yes it is plastic, very lightweight, and the Coway logo looks like a retired alcoholic stencilled it on while steering around the Arc de Triomphe. On a bicycle. Think cobblestones. Blinded by cigarette smoke. At night. Moonless night. Maybe tricycle. But I wanted something that is easy to move and didn’t let the brand font type decide my future health and if it bugs you I recommend you stick the Apple sticker you got with your MacBook Air over it. Oh and then sell it on eBay for mega dollars. But ok I’m getting carried away and can imagine you saying “…but HonestH, what did it work like?...”. To be honest I had no clue. I didn’t feel like forcing square pins into round holes and upsetting my day so packed it away for the next week while waiting for my well-travelled transformer/converter thingy. And when it arrived what a day it was… By that time I’ve had already read the instruction booklet a few times and unwrapped the filters (which I highly recommend unless you want to get to know the local fire brigade intimately) so I just plugged it into the power thingy and fired it up, ready to explore the new world it would open to me. It didn’t even splutter or hesitate, but just uttered a sweet chime-like angelic melody (luckily only lasting for a second) and a big blue light lit up on the top. Now standing a bit closer (but not close to the transformer/converter thingy yet as it hummed ominously) I could feel the clean fresh air bursting out of the top of it. Wow. No sound yet air blowing. I’ve had dozens of fans sounding like pegs in a bicycle wheel and always fiddled with them, smacked them, put little match-sticks in, put them upside down, put them sideways, etc etc just to eventually drive them to the outdoor shooting gallery and take a 12 gauge to them. But this little fellow was quiet as nun’s… quiet as a graveyard. So let’s fast forward a bit to three weeks later… I have dragged this little fellow around my whole house and can state with confidence that it works as advertised. I have pumped it up to full speed, which is rather fearful as it takes a few seconds to build up full speed and then it feels like you are standing next to a vortex about to suck you in and spit you out in who-knows-where-I-just-hope-its-got-a-nice-beach. I have spent many nights sleeping next to it. I have used it to clean building dust after a whole nest of seemingly lost plumbers destroyed one of our bathrooms. I have used it in the kitchen. I have used it to annoy my wife during our eternal struggle for house domination. I have even tried to use it as a vacuum cleaner on a lazy day. So herewith my findings and feedback to some other user comments: It is very good at purifying the air in any room and leaves it feeling and smelling crisp and clear It is easy to move because it has a convenient little carry grip It’s not bad at removing odours. It sometimes stands in our open kitchen/lounge area and gets very militant when it smells onions or some other cooking Have used it various times in the kitchen to get rid of onion or fondue smells and it definitely helps. Easy to maintain and clean the filters It does not in fact hoover your whole house including the floors from dust but does seem to make an impact on how quickly dust accumulates The sensor is very sensitive and kicks the Coway into overdrive… I have experienced this a few times with the builders destroying our one bathroom and kicking up clouds of dust . It is fearful when the sensor eye goes red and the machine goes all HAL 9000 on you. This usually only lasts for a few seconds but hold onto something heavy. Room for improvement: Can have little rubber feet Started to develop a slight tik-tik-tik sound which is audible because the thing is so darn quiet For Pete’s sake just change the logo…
