It did seem odd that a filter that was described on the packaging thus: REDUCES Sediment Rust Scale Dirt Course Sand Sand and then would go on to state: This cellulose cartridge is not recommended for use with untreated well water. One could only wonder what was left to Treat. Called Culligan and a technical rep explained that the statement referencing untreated referred to treatment for bacteria. Apparently if there is bacteria in the water they love cellulose and can rapidly compromise the filter by digesting it. I suggested to the Culligan rep that they be a bit more explicit in their disclaimer and specifically reference treatment for bacteria.

I use as a sediment filter in my whole house water filter. Good level of filtration without reducing pressure. Lasts about 4 months in my location. Could go longer. Just depends. Economical enough not to worry about replacement.

Just installed this cartridge. I use it as a water heater sediment filter. If you recently purchased and installed one of those Hybrid water heaters with the heat pump ($900), you may want to protect your investment with a sediment filter to extend the life of your water heater. It seems to be working well. Amazons price was way better than the Home Depot brand by GE. The quality is the same or better. The Culligan R50-BBSA Level-1 and the Culligan CP5-BBS Level 4 cartridges are both good replacements for the GE FXHSC.

I purchased this product in May 2013 to filter very fine sediments from my water well, which I use for my fogging system in the farm. At the same time, we use it also for our water consumption, so it is important to remove scale, silt and dirt. Because the fogging nozzles I am using are very sensitive to sediments that are bigger than 10 microns, I used the Culligan CP5-BBS Level 4 Heavy Duty Sediment Cartridge, enclosed in a Culligan HD-950A 1-Inch Outlet/Inlet Heavy Duty Sediment Water Filter Housing, because it filters up to 5 microns. Since then I never had problems with my fogging system. I am very impressed with the result. After 2 years of using it, I decided to write a review. While installing it 2 years ago, I was worried that this product would slow down the water flow rate, much lower than our desired 18-20 gallons per minute, which would then be detrimental to our fogging machine. But it turned out that this product has a high flow rate. Today, I am buying another 4 of this cartridge, good for another year of supply. I would definitely recommend this product together with the Culligan HD-950A water filter housing to anyone who is using a fogging system for greenhouse plants, and to anyone who has issues with the quality of their water.

I am running this filter after a water softener on a well. This filter filters out just about all sediment and my water is just about clear. There is still a little tint to it but a lot better than any of the other filters I have tried including the activated carbon filter. The main test will be how long this filter lasts. If I can get three months I will be happy.

Cheaper than the AquaPure filters that we used to use (they were $30 per filter). We have to replace these much sooner than the premium brand, but the price is worth it. Our water is super bad, so we try to replace filters at least 1 time per month or so.

We use this at our home in the mountains. The well water is laden with iron and unless the water is filtered or run consistently, it is not usable. It serves its purpose. If we are only there for a couple days, we remove the filter and I hose each panel off to reuse again. This only works once before the filter paper degrades.

Used for outdoor filter. Works fine.

Even though not recommended for untreated well water, Ive found this filter to be highly effective. We havent had any problems. They remove much more sediment than the R50-BBSA filter (50 micron). Before switching, washing cars left a noticeable haze on the finish. Using these, that haze is almost gone. Our well supplies two houses, lawns, gardens, and up to 300 head of cattle, so it gets a workout. We use two, plumbed in parallel and getting around 6 weeks before replacement. Once they start to plug the flow rate drops off faster than the R50-BBSA. What I expect with a finer filter.
