I have Boston area water. I grew up here and always believed the water is fine.. Well when I bought my house 20+ years ago the unit came with the house. every 30 to 90 days I have to replace the filter and everyone i tell to get one of these simple units just does not believe me. My filters are clogged with little tiny particles that otherwise I would be drinking... How does the commercial go: Thank You Culligan Man! - Its what you cant see that these filters catch... which means they are working...

It keeps the small silt and sand from plugging up our on demand water heater.

Filter works well for a standard filter. Will buy again.

    Greater than one week

I installed this as part of a set which I assembled in an attempt to prevent the buildup of sediment at my washing machine. I am on city water, but it is VERY hard water and I found that I was cleaning out the strainer about once every few weeks. Since installing these items, I have yet to have any issues! The following has been installed for roughly 6 months: Culligan HF-150A 3/4-Inch Whole House Sediment Water Filter, Culligan S1A Level 2 20 Micron Sediment Replacement Cartridge 2 Pack, Culligan SW-2 3/4-Inch Housing Spanner Wrench, Culligan UB-1 Mounting Bracket with Screws. I recommend purchasing all these items for an application such as mine.

Our home water is supplied by a personal well that unfortunately comes with some brownish sediment that discolors the water and makes it taste a little too much like minerals. Completely harmless, but not very pretty, especially for company. Previously I had been looking into expensive water softeners or whole house filters in the $200+ range. Thankfully I found the little culligan whole house filter for $32 and this two pack of 20 micron filters for another $7 (so cheap!). Its been a week now, water is crystal clear. I like that I can see the filter through the casing, currently it has a light brown tinge so I know its working. Since the water has been so clear I think Ill be sticking with the cheaper and longer lasting 20 micron filters, theyre supposed to last 4 months or 16,000 gallons, putting my total filtration costs at a cool ~$12 a year, far cheaper than my initial expectations when looking into larger carbon filters or water softeners. I couldnt be happier!

The original CP5-BBS cellulose cartridges I previously purchased and used performed well in our whole-house, big blue filter housing. They maintained their shape and kept the output water sediment-free. The currently manufactured filter cartridges do not maintain that performance, and apparently Culligan knows that. If you read the current label from the manufacturer, it states that the cartridge is NOT recommended for use with untreated well water. It also says the filter cartridges are assembled in China. (I do not know if that is a contributing reason, but merely add that observation.) I find the cellulose material in the current batch of filters quickly saturates, gets soft and mushy, and falls apart. The outer filter material collapses and renders the filter useless, while the inner diameter structure remains intact. Consequently, the filter cartridge must be replaced much more frequently than in the past. Past filters DID provide the labeled 3 months cartridge life; the current filters must be changed after 4-5 weeks, under the same water demands. When initially installed, these filters do filter out the offending sediment from our well water. They just do not last! Ill finish using the filters I have in-hand, at the much shorter useful life, and find a more robust designed filter cartridge filter for the future.
