I honestly thought dyson vacuums were over hyped, I decided to go ahead and splurge on this after falling in love with the dyson air wrap and oh man Im glad I did. This thing is incredible. It sucks up every little spec of dust and dog hair on the wood floor (which I can see super clearly because of the light on the vacuum head) and is powerful enough to pick up so much gunk from the carpet as well. The only thing that could make this vacuum better is to get a longer battery life.

This vacuum has a power button, unlike the V15, so theres no need to hold down the trigger. However, the grip puts a lot of weight on the thumb knuckle. After 15 minutes, it starts to chafe. The grip has a second support forming a box with the battery underneath, but the 2nd support is not shaped to be gripped, so the vacuum could only be wielded one-handed comfortably. Its lighter than the V15, but its not that light. The dustbin is large enough as it does a good job of packing dust, and the bin is easy to empty. The laser is very useful for spotting dust, especially with the lights off. The battery life when new is about 30 minutes in medium power. Dyson needs to put soft-touch material near where the hand meets the cylinder to make this more comfortable to use. All of the accessories are made of plastic except for the extension tube. The hard floor roller is the only tool with the laser. The roller head tends to collect dust at certain places and needs to be vacuumed itself after vacuuming the floor. The other accessories are unremarkable. I wish the laser is detachable so it could be affixed to the other pieces. The laser and the piezoelectric sensor that throttles the motor speed are the only two innovations that are unique. It is otherwise a good but unremarkable vacuum. The V15 is marketed as the machine for larger houses, but I cant imagine one-hand wielding that vacuum for 30 minutes. Even the V12 is uncomfortable to use after 15 minutes.

Hubs has vacuumed for years as a standard vacuum is so big hard to do stairs but this handy vacuum makes vacuuming the whole house a breeze. (It does need to be charged after only doing the downstairs and takes quite a while to charge so I just do the upstairs the next day.) I was surprised at the power and the carpet brushing and am very happy I bought it!

The vacuum itself is awesome. It gets up a LOT of dirt, dust, and (our worst problem) pet hair. The laser is amazing on hardwood floors as it just lights up the surface area and shows you things you may have missed and makes it easier to see progress. The only complaint I have is the battery life. Even if you run it on the Eco setting (which is the best setting for battery life) the battery dies SO FAST. My wife used it on the medium setting yesterday and it ran maybe 30 min. Today running it on Eco, after using it for about 10 min the timer said it had 30 min left. 40 min on the setting that’s supposed to run for 60 min after a full charge is ridiculous. Dyson needs to upgrade their batteries for a longer use. If you live in anything larger than a one-bedroom apartment you’re going to have to charge it multiple times just to vacuum your entire house once. In summation: the product is awesome, but the battery SUCKS. (no pun intended)

This DYSON is replacing a 7 year old V8 model. So many new features on this new V12. Longer battery life and the light just is a real help cleaning up after our ( 3 ) dogs. Great product at a fair price. Nothing beats a DYSON.! Weve tried but nothing came close.

  • terrible the dust goes past the canister and up into the filter and you have to get something to pull it out. Also does not distribute evenly so you have to clean it out more. I do like the on and off button.

I didn’t like that the dust is sucked up past the bin into the filter. Also it does not distribute evenly!

I’ve had 2 different Dyson vacuums. They were the cannister ball full vacuums. Both were great. I sold both and opted to get a cordless as my vacuuming needs are not significant in terms of time. I wanted something lightweight and also with good suction. I considered Miele, Samsung and LG cordless vacuums. However those all had some reviews that pointed to some major issues with the reviewers. Dyson fit the bill perfectly. Really impressed. Great suction. Very lightweight and so far no problems and no issues with battery fading or suction fading after 10-15 minutes of use. Dyson clearly has it over its competitors.

If you truly want to understand how dirty your floors are, then you need this machine. I have entered a whole new realm of understanding. Of course, the downside is that you KNOW. I would rather know and try to keep on top of it, but be forewarned that all the dirt and dust you cannot see without this laser light is shocking. To have a powerful machine that is both lightweight and cordless has definitely catapulted me into a new world...not trying to sound dramatic, but this is definitely a different animal. Highly recommend and would buy again for sure!

Only gave it three stars (3.75 would be my actual rating if permitted), because I want to draw attention to the fact this is not a good vacuum for someone with a house or carpeted floors. My loft is less than 700 sf and I often struggle to finish vacuuming before the battery craps out. Granted, I’m OCD & very thorough. However, Dyson has still grossly overinflated the run time of this machine in its advertising. Fresh off its first full charge, I got (per the LED screen) 44 minutes run time. Six weeks later, the battery has already degraded. Max run time, 34 minutes. I know… I vacuum frequently & run time varies by attachment, but ten minutes is a lot of degrading in less than two months. Even if run in econo mode, I find it implausible this machine would operate for 60 minutes. The greatest thing about the V12 is the lighted fluffy roller. I love the fluffy so much!!! Before I bought the v12, I was forced kick a around a flashlight so I could see the crud on my terrazzo floor. This took forever and burned up double A batteries at warp speed. It was such a chore and I actually like vacuuming… But only with my lighted fluffy! Seriously, the fluffy is saving me at least $20 a month in batteries. Of course, payments on the vacuum are sucking up that $20. But that’s better than tossing all of those batteries in the trash!

I’ve owned this V12 for only an hour, but if first impressions are everything, I’m in love! Didn’t even need instructions to figure how to assemble and use. Straight out of the box and at about 20% battery, this vacuum sucked the life INTO my carpet by sucking out all the nasty stuff! I previously vacuumed with a Dyson ball, so I was shocked to see the cup fill up with just a quick once over in my living room. The vacuum is incredibly lightweight, powerful suction, flexible with the toolset, able to reach in places previous Dyson couldn’t! I never thought I’d spend $500 on a vacuum, but I couldn’t be more happy to give Dyson money for this incredible yet powerful machine!
