It has worked as it should. I do a lot of hiking and 4-wheeling in the back country. My wife cried with relief when I got it. I am still working on understanding how it works. It is my current understanding that the only way for someone to get a text to the garmin is by responding to one that i have sent.

Worth every penny if you need the SOS. The Garmin GPS is good and has many downloadable maps online for free which was cool. The only downside I have experienced is the typing of messages is slow having to select letters one at a time with the arrow to write a message. Service was good in the Mountains and I sent and received messages with no problems. Overall, well worth owning!

Dont know how much I will use this but I look at it and the plan as cheap insurance. Great way to get help or keep in touch when out of cell range

The GPS and location tracking is lousy, set-up and syncing not intuitive at all and customer support is non-existent. Unless youre buying this product for the SOS functionality, save your money.

This is a great device once you get the hang of it. We used it on a 63 mile canoe trek and it was very handy. Take some time to learn how to use it thoroughly before taking it on an adventure as there are some nuances to get used to.

What is the monthly or yearly fee. How many text messages? Unlimited?

You need a sattalite contract to use it

I threw away my satellite phone because this device was so amazing. Live tracking for my family to watch me when Im out in wilderness or flying a paraglider makes us all feel closer. so cool

if your old..like me..60, and like to remote camp and hike. This item will give you and your family peace of mind. Just an amazing piece of gear.must have. many times ive very far of the beaten path and this always has signal and I can txt my family, and keep them updated.

I purchased my InReach Explorer+ (Explorer) for a PCT through hike, it is going back because of poor accuracy, poor mapping and poor navigation capabilities.
