> 3 dayFor those of you not familiar with EtherCON cabling, theyre sort of a cross between Ethernet and XLR analog audio cables. Like XLR, they use a strong and durable latching mechanism to hold the cables into their jacks. The difference is that they arent wired like XLR; they are Ethernet with RJ-45 connectors, but these are fitted into special aluminum housings that just look like XLR from the outside. You COULD plug these into standard Ethernet switches, but only by disassembling the housing.

Greater than one weekI love the connectors on the ends of the cable. But to use unmodified you do need EtherCon tools on both ends. In a pinch you can unscrew the end and there is a standard RJ45 connector inside. If you do this you need to be careful because there is a little over an inch of exposed wiring outside the cable sheath, so it is not recommended. I checked the pinout. It is standard the CAT protocol. Very good quality cable. As I get more EtherCon equipment I will get more of this cable.

> 3 dayWhen I learned about Ethercon pretty recently, I was excited. Since then, I’ve used several types of XLR snake boxes, all connected via Ethercon, and I am totally sold. These GearIT cables are great. Well made, reliable, and carry the signal perfectly. I have tried longer runs that work great for live shows, and this shorter (10 foot) run I’m using in the home studio. Very pleased with it. I am a big fan of GearIt products, because I have had nothing but positive experiences with their equipment so far!

> 3 daySo far, so good. Nothing to complain about with this very well made etherCON-compatible audio cable which allows you to send four audio (or DMX) signals over a single CAT6 cable rather than have four long XLR cables snaking across your studio or stage. The cable is thick and robust and clicks-in securely to the GearIT 4-channel extender boxes Im using with the cable. The etherCon-style housings surrounding the RJ45 connectors on the ends are metal - assuring a solid connection with the extender boxes. The plastic RJ45 connectors themselves look rugged and fit securely into the etherCON housing that has a pre-molded metal shape on the inside that the RJ45 slides into to securely orient and hold the RJ45 in the proper position. A professional cable that sounds great.

> 3 dayGearIT CAT6 Ethernet Cable, EtherCON-Compatible RJ45 Connectors for Pro Audio, Aluminum Shielded, Oxygen Free Copper - 15 ft. - Black This a cable for carrying audio over ethernet for audio patch boxes etc. that are EtherCon compatible (audio over ethernet). With the correct equipment you can carry 4 channels of audio over Ethernet Cat6 cables. This cable is very well made and very robust. The cable core is a very heavy gage. and has serviceable metal ends. The connectors of EtherCon look like an XLR with an ethernet connection inside, instead of three pins. This gives a very robust connection for compatible floor boxes etc. Audio over Ethernet is a huge leap forward and a great way to run 4 channel audio over a distance. These cables are top notch, and work exactly as they should. This is absolutely an all pro cable. I find etherCon very exciting and have 2 sets of floor boxes I use regularly with this cable. perfect for studio or stage. Great for bands, studios, and DJays. I am very grateful to have these cables in my studio.

> 3 dayYou might be unfamiliar with Ethercon cables. Electronically, theyre no different than your standard CAT6 RJ45 ethernet cable. The difference is the connector. And while most standard RJ45 cables will work with an Ethercon jack, the reverse is NOT true. Ethercon cables cant be used with most network cards, etc., as they have a far more robust retainer to make pulling them out more difficult. These are a part of GearITs ecosystem of devices, useful for audio snakes, carrying DMX for lighting, or AES for digital audio. These are situations where you DO NOT want a network cable to pull out accidentally, as it can set off an apocalyptic range of audio madness. The Ethercon connector prevents that. When its snapped in, youre protected against all but the most abusive situations. Theres only one word to describe GearITs version of the Ethercon cable. HARDCORE. As in almost overkill, but the confidence level in these holding up is100%. They come in varying lengths. I ordered the six, ten, and fifteen-foot versions. All are equally well built. So much so, I was actually quite surprised. On top of that, theyre very well packaged, with their website, tech support phone/email and hours of operation printed right on the bags. The product photos are accurate--thats exactly how they were delivered. This is a case where Id award ten stars if I could. Operation of the cable is flawless. Just phenomenally well constructed and presented. Cant beat that.

Reviews and Information
> 3 dayI was initially put off by how rigid the cable was, but looking inside explained it. This Ethercon cable is sturdy. It has a center divider core separating the pairs, a foil shield, then a copper shield, then the plastic cable jacket, and then over that another more rubbery jacket. That means it does have a fair bit of coil memory and takes a little work to get it to lie flat in a corner, but it should stand up to a lot. The shells hold well in sockets, and electrically it checks out in terms of pinout.

> 3 dayI’ve only recently discovered Ethercon technology and started using it with the drum kit in my home studio. Unlike regular XLR snakes with their large boxes and unruly diameter cables, EC extenders are very compact yet still pass audio signals transparently. This particular cable has rugged jacketing with solid, tight fitting connectors. Its stress reliefs are sufficient, and also have serrated surfaces for a better grip. Even using a combination of dynamic and condenser microphones in the same pair of extenders I couldn’t detect any signal degradation whatsoever, no doubt in part to the use of CAT6 connectivity which depending on length supports data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. It also carries phantom power without any sort of external power supply required. Note that it’s a very bad idea to attempt using a standard CAT6 Ethernet cable between EC extender boxes, as most have insufficient shielding which will create line noise and worse likely not support phantom power. That said, to avoid possible headaches I’d suggest picking up a cable that’s specifically designed for EC use, and this one certainly fits the bill.

Greater than one weekThis CAT6 ethernet cable from GearIT is no joke. It is very robust with plenty of shielding, oxygen-free copper wiring and a thick outer jacket. It has many uses. The aluminum EtherCON connectors can be removed and plugged into any ethernet port, but it is best utilized with other GearIT DMX equipment with EtherCON ports. This cable is not cheap, but it is a good example of you get what you pay for.
