GearIT CAT6 Ethernet Cable, EtherCON-Compatible RJ45 Connectors for Pro Audio, Aluminum Shielded, Oxygen Free Copper - 15 ft. - Black This a cable for carrying audio over ethernet for audio patch boxes etc. that are EtherCon compatible (audio over ethernet). With the correct equipment you can carry 4 channels of audio over Ethernet Cat6 cables. This cable is very well made and very robust. The cable core is a very heavy gage. and has serviceable metal ends. The connectors of EtherCon look like an XLR with an ethernet connection inside, instead of three pins. This gives a very robust connection for compatible floor boxes etc. Audio over Ethernet is a huge leap forward and a great way to run 4 channel audio over a distance. These cables are top notch, and work exactly as they should. This is absolutely an all pro cable. I find etherCon very exciting and have 2 sets of floor boxes I use regularly with this cable. perfect for studio or stage. Great for bands, studios, and DJays. I am very grateful to have these cables in my studio.

You might be unfamiliar with Ethercon cables. Electronically, theyre no different than your standard CAT6 RJ45 ethernet cable. The difference is the connector. And while most standard RJ45 cables will work with an Ethercon jack, the reverse is NOT true. Ethercon cables cant be used with most network cards, etc., as they have a far more robust retainer to make pulling them out more difficult. These are a part of GearITs ecosystem of devices, useful for audio snakes, carrying DMX for lighting, or AES for digital audio. These are situations where you DO NOT want a network cable to pull out accidentally, as it can set off an apocalyptic range of audio madness. The Ethercon connector prevents that. When its snapped in, youre protected against all but the most abusive situations. Theres only one word to describe GearITs version of the Ethercon cable. HARDCORE. As in almost overkill, but the confidence level in these holding up is100%. They come in varying lengths. I ordered the six, ten, and fifteen-foot versions. All are equally well built. So much so, I was actually quite surprised. On top of that, theyre very well packaged, with their website, tech support phone/email and hours of operation printed right on the bags. The product photos are accurate--thats exactly how they were delivered. This is a case where Id award ten stars if I could. Operation of the cable is flawless. Just phenomenally well constructed and presented. Cant beat that.

I got this because I wanted to hook something up that took an etherCON type of cable like this. The cable is nice and I tried to look over it without taking the ends off which showed me that this is a well made cable in general. Just know that this is not something that you can pop the ends off of and get good results using it as an ethernet cable. It would probably work for a bit, but those ends are a part of the whole design and Ive taken them off of another cable which didnt work out for me and wasted my money. All in all Id say if you need this kind of cable, you wont go wrong with this companys products. This is the second time Ive used one of their cables, and I have to say that I always know that Im going to be happy with the quality when I come across their stuff.

Used at 2 gigs with no issues - feels well built and durable. However, during 3rd gig I started getting intermittent dropouts on my A&H GX4816 during sound check. Traced it back to this cable - had to run by home depot to get a quick replacement before the show. Amazon return process 5-star.

CAT6, oxygen-free copper cable in a solid-feeling rubberized jacket with pro-quality cannon connectors (ethercon-type). This is one nice cable! I ordered it, to pair with Gearits 4-channel DMX/XLR Audio extender. This cable works perfectly. The cables cannon/ehtercon connectors click into the extender boxes, firmly- making for excellent, noise-free signal conduction. It is worth a mention that this cable is advertised and labeled as shielded. However, the specification for the shielding isnt specifically stated. Instead, one of the photos in the listing shows an image of 4 pairs of insulated, stranded conductors, surrounded by an aluminum shield. Curiously, the image suggests both a solid, and a braided aluminum shield- but again, nothing is specifically stated. For this reasons, it is unclear whether this is actually CAT6 SF/UTP... which means the cable would consist of 4 unshielded twisted pairs, surrounded by an outer foil, plus a braided shield- just beneath the jacket. That said, this cable is robust, features pro-quality assembly, and yields pro-quality signal propagation. Id buy more.

In total, I’ve got 8 microphones covering my drum kit. Needless to say, that creates a lot of XLR cable spaghetti running all over the floor leading back to my Behringer A/D converters. I’ve only recently discovered Ethercon technology and just started using it in my home studio. Unlike regular XLR snakes with their large boxes and unruly diameter cables, EC extenders are very compact yet still pass audio signals transparently. This particular cable has very rugged jacketing with tight fitting connectors, whose stress reliefs are sufficient and have serrated surfaces for a better grip. As a test, I attached a pair of 4-port EC extender boxes using this cable to cover the four microphones on the hi-hat side of my drum kit, consisting of a combination of two condenser and two dynamic mics. I couldn’t detect any signal degradation whatsoever, no doubt in part to the use of CAT6 connectivity which depending on length supports data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. They also send/receive phantom power without any sort of power supply required. Some of my collaborators have attempted to connect Ethercon extender boxes using a standard CAT6 Ethernet cable, which will without fail cause line noise issues due to insufficient shielding and/or long length. Worse yet, they will not carry phantom power. Always use cables specifically designed for Ethercon compatibility such as this one, and it’s smooth sailing. Note that they’re not just for audio. If you’re into DMX lighting, these will handle that as well. This product may seem a bit pricey, but then again so are long high-quality XLR cables. That in mind along with the convenience they provide, I’m certainly sticking with Ethercon microphone connections from here on out.

This cable is built very well! It is very thick and the jacket is strong. The connectors are tight and of a very good quality. I connected it to a snake attached to my drum kit and it does the job very well with zero loss in audio quality. Highly recommend!
