> 24 hourI had read a lot of reviews complaining that the HEPA filter did not fit into the cartridge, and they were right. Was annoyed at this, but then I figured out a way to quickly modify it to fit nicely. I developed a method, using just an exacto knife, to cleanly and neatly remove the stiff outer cardboard frame, allowing the filter to fit perfectly into the cartridge. Takes about 5 minutes or so. PLEASE NOTE: I am not advocating or recommending that anyone use an exacto knife for this purpose. Im simply saying that it worked for me, but I am not responsible for any injuries if someone decides to try my method.

> 24 hourWorks as intended but is expensive compared to alternatives. If cheaper alternatives are actually HEPA then it should t matter so save some money.

> 24 hourThe main filter and the carbon filters fit perfectly in my 5300-2 model. Initially bought this last October and got the indicator on my winix to replace the filter in mid July, so lasted about 9 months. Had the unit on 24/7 (except on a couple of occasions) on the 2nd-to-highest setting (there are 4 on mine), bumping it up to full speed sometimes. Used inside my bedroom, not a smoker or anything but it does get fairly dusty over time in my room. I replaced the carbon filters every 3 months as specified on mine. Pretty fair in my opinion, I would be surprised if any filter lasted the entire expected time frame, but I could be wrong. Even then, the amount you save should be taken into account.

> 24 hourI tried the other cheap off brand non-winix filters versions sold here and they were not acceptable. I switched to this original version and the Winix unit is now doing what I bought it for. The cheap versions flowed much more air and made the fan sound louder. This told me it was not filtering as I needed. Pollen is tiny and you need the full capabilities of these original filters or you will suffer more allergy problems like us. Allergies hit us hard this spring so ordered these original filters for our 2 Winix units and things got better, allergy problems backed off a bit if we stayed inside.

> 24 hourI have been using this air cleaner Winix 5300 for several years, buying the same filter, the last one not long ago in Sept. but this is the first time MOLD is growing on it. It arrived new/clean as always. No new changes in the room. The filter is very dirty and I got another one again. Why there is now mold, I do not know. Not sure its safe. I keep it in the larger room. Mold has never grown on it before. I have to change mine frequently so I also bought another brand too. I have a ware climate with high humidity so not sure whats up now. Maybe the older Winix 5300 has worn out or gosh, who knows. Update-Dec. 12, 2019 ::: I bought another replacement 2 months ago and its filthy dirty already.( I have another air cleaner in the same room too-different brand.) This is way too expensive for me and not 100% positive either really help my air or my health.

> 24 hourWe live in an area that is dry & the wind (which in our area can whip up really fast) causes lots of grit/dust to get everywhere. I have noticed I do not have to dust as often. Which saves me time on housework. Love the time it saves me.

> 24 hourAt one time I chose the less expensive generic filter package. The generic was a really bad choice because the carbon filters produced a black dust while installing and the Hepa filter lasted half as long as a branded filter. This filter is easy to install (no dust) and keeps air cleaner for longer.

> 24 hourI bought a number of the Winix air cleaners when they were on sale. The whole machine was less than a single Plasmawave replacement filter. Then there were the fires in Paradise and elsewhere and the air quality became so bad my smoke alarms were going off. For a fire 200 miles away. Fortunately I had the Winix air cleaners installed and they did a great job. I have a laser particulate measuring system for air quality (for arguments with my wife- totally worth it!) that showed indoors the air quality was several hundred fold better than outdoors for the two particle sizes. counted. The carbon coated filters need replacing every few months as they prefilter the dog hair and general linty things floating about. The HEPA filters filter out the micron range bits. After a year you can visibly see the filter color darken as it loads up on schmutz too small to see (lasers can count them without a problem). A lot of that is pollen and other stuff you dont want to think about. So once a year they get recycled. I went for the original Winix because sometimes other brands dont fit right (the seal has to be air tight around the filter or you defeat the purpose of the filter). And I know for certain the Winix filters work because I tested them, so its worth a few extra bucks once a year to use filters I can count on. The whole family gets allergy shots so this helps keep the air inside as healthy as possible. A couple of times a year the pollen is so thick you need to wash it off your car so if thats a problem, this is a solution.

> 24 hourThere are heaps of crappy knockoff filters for the 5500-2, and so many reviews written by so many poorly informed people. These actual Winix filters do fit the model 5500-2(and perfectly), they are thicker though, so you can only use this filter without the ridiculous carbon balls filter thing that comes with the Winix 5500-2 (that thing does nothing anyway-total gimmick). You can use this filter with the Winix 5500-2 with the regular carbon filters just fine. Just thought I’d leave an informed review to help others like me not have to read through oodles of bumbling reviews.
