20-11-2024I read reviews that this filter does not fit the 5500. From the info I could find by doing research on the internet, the 5500 uses Size 21 Filter. The SKU# for the Size 21 filter on the Winix website is: 115115 - which is the same SKU# listed on amazon. When I received my order, the box containing the filter lists a few model numbers that this filter fits and the 5500 is not listed. BUT, it does say it fits all units that use Size 21. I fault both amazon and Winix for not having clear info on this but it explains why amazon has this filter paired with the 5500 on their website. There are dozens and dozens of items for sale on amazon that do not have sufficient and/or accurate info. I would say 75% of the bad reviews that people write are usually a result of the consumer having absolutely no clue what they are talking about. People really need to quit being so lazy and do a little research before you fire off a bad review. If something is not clear on the amazon website, do some research!

Greater than one weekI’ve been questioning these for awhile. I have two Winix systems. We moved into a house we purchased last November. We got these filters immediately after moving in. The filters lasted maybe 3 months. Our previous filters lasted much longer. We thought maybe the air quality in the home was bad. Maybe it is. I dunno. The gunk in the filters is yuck. We got new ones, we noticed above the purifiers on the walls is black staining!! I removed photos of my children and there is an OUTLINE of gray black where the photo were. I could clean it off. The wall was freshly painted in December, 9 months ago. It’s the same above the other purifier. But no staining near any other photo in the home. NOWHERE!! So whatever is being sucked into the filter is being deposited back into the air onto the wall. Gross. I’m ordering directly from Home Depot. Screw this seller. Aftermarket for sure! If you’ve noticed a lot of dust in your home after getting these filters, this is why!!! But something else! Home Depot sells them for the same price by the way. Your welcome.

> 3 dayYou really have to order the Genuine Winix Replacement Filter A for the HEPA Filter or it wont work right. Even so, as with many of the reviewers here, it doesnt fit well. Neither the actual HEPA filter nor the multiple carbon pre-filters work well. You have to cut the carbon filter, its messy and a pain having to change it every 3 months. Also the carbon filter holder is difficult to disassemble and once you do, good luck trying to get it back together! Its sort of a pain all around, but must be done to keep the HEPA filter machine working and clean. I find have I have to change the HEPA more often in summer than every 6 months.

> 3 dayThis item, ordered on July 5th, 2018 is the original winix replacement filter. Some reviewers have mentioned that what they received was not an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) product. This was not true for us and what we got was the original product. It is expensive, given that we paid $99 for the Winix machine and Two complete sets of filters (One set comprises a HEPA filter and 4 charcoal prefilters). The product (filters and machine) work very well and will eliminate a fair amount of dust and animal dander. We own four machines that were all purchased about 8 months ago and will probably buy a couple more on sale at the $99 price again. Got allergies/ COPD/ etc - probably a good purchase for you!

> 3 dayFor folks with the Winix 9500 model - the HEPA filter w/ the 4 carbon sheets, is NOT the exact duplicate as the filter you got with ur original purchase. 1) the carbon filter are carbon sheets, whereas the original are actual activated carbon pieces in a filter container. 2) since the activated carbon pieces are washable, the carbon sheets arent necessary. 3) the carbon sheets do not fit perfectly into the 9500 bc without the container that holds the activated carbon pebbles, the carbon sheets do NOT sit perfectly inside. There will be gaps on the side. 4) even the HEPA filter doesnt close all the gaps on the side bc it isnt reinforced by the original plastic filter that holds the HEPA filter and activated carbon. 5) I hear the followes HEPA may fit into the original plastic filter. That may be the better cheaper option. My 9500 was an overkill. I just want a fast and quick dust use the plasma wave. In fact do not use it if ur in the room, while you sleep, and let fresh air in to remove any O3 from your room. I use O3 to remove organics from the sump of my fish tank. You = organic. :) If you really want my opinion? Just buy activated carbon, make sure you water cleanse it(powdery), dry and replaced exhausted activated carbon. Bc honestly, carbon gets exhausted eventually. Find the HEPA (followes?)filter that will actually FIT the original filter. Done. But if youve got money to burn, get the 99$ filter on Amazon. It replaces the whole filter(HEPA+Carbon pebble filled filter+original plastic filter that holds both parts). Ill prob do that next year, if I cant find a HEPA filter n activated carbon pebbles + filter to hold it, separately.

> 3 dayThis filter is NOT a proper, direct replacement for the CASSETTE HEPA filter that came with the new air cleaner. The original had two smaller paper filters and a honey combed charcoal filter, and all of the filters mounted together in a plastic cassette, with a front mounted Pre-Screen useful for catching pet hair. This replacement completely negates the cassette, the charcoal filter is just a sheet that you have to cut to fit, it has no support to keep it from pulling toward the fan, and the original filters pre-screen to catch pet hair has no cassette upon which to be attached, so one cant use it! I just bought FOUR of these filters for three U450s and one U300, and I am not happy about it. Advertising this filter as a replacement for the WINIX U450 and U300 is TOTALLY MISLEADING THE CONSUMER! It LOOKS like a replacement for the filters within the cassette, but it isnt. Again, this is NOT like the original filter unit that came with the WINIX U450 or U300 PlasmaWave Air Cleaner. If you dont need the pre-screen and are willing to use two charcoal filters, one before the paper filter to catch hair and one behind it, then it may work. Remember you have to trim the charcoal filters to fit. Use the paper filter as a template, if you choose to do this. I was going to send these back, but I ordered them for two different addresses and returning would be such a hassle that Ill just use them for a couple of months, and contact WINIX to find out how to order the CORRECT filters for my air cleaners. I will say that I am very disappointed with my purchase of these, but I should have contacted someone directly to ascertain these were correct, and I merely went with the reviews and pictures, assuming theyd work with the existing original cassettes. Live, Suffer, and Learn.

Greater than one weekWorks as intended but is expensive compared to alternatives. If cheaper alternatives are actually HEPA then it should t matter so save some money.

> 3 dayThis air purifier is wonderful. The filters definitely make a difference in the air quality. My old ones were definitely loaded with dust and cat fur. My sinuses and air passages felt better within an hour or so of changing out the filters. The air simply feels cleaner, and I think it is that it is free of odors. That is unfortunately the one downfall of these filters. If you like to run a Scentsy, or Essential Oil diffuser...or bake luscious smelling cookies...forget about it. The carbon pre-filters are so effective at removing odors from the air that they snatch the ones youd like to keep around too :)

> 3 dayI purchased this filter for my WAC9500. When I received it I found that it was not an exact fit. In fact, it is too large to fit into the filter frame that also holds and centers the carbon filter. After reading some of the reviews here I found that the filter will fit if you insert it directly into the unit without the filter frame. Unfortunately some folks have suggested that you put the hepa filter in first then the charcoal filter after, and at least one other suggesting you dont need the charcoal filter because the hepa filter is so good. If you put the charcoal filter in after the hepa filter, dirty air will flow through your charcoal filter and render it useless, and ultimately, cause a decrease in the efficiency of your entire filter unit. The charcoal filter is only there to filter out chemicals and odors, not dirt particles. If you are not concerned about using the filter to its full potential, just leave out the charcoal filter... you essentially have a Winix 5500 at that point (which by the way, this replacement filter fits perfectly). I put my charcoal filter in first, then the hepa filter, then the fine mesh and finally the large particle mesh. I did this by setting the unit on its back and trying to keep the charcoal filter centered. This is not ideal but is the closest you can get to original without buying the more expensive replacement... which I will be doing next time. I gave this 3 stars only for the fact that it is not a true replacement for the WAC9500.
