Having just gone through the frustration of a cheap soldering iron, I went online to get an idea of what the best irons out there were. Several EEs recommended Hakko above all others. I was a bit nervous shelling out some (for me) serious money for something like this, but I wanted frustration-free soldering. Needless to say, it didnt disappoint. This is a very nice piece of kit. Just about every feature I thought Id need (and some I didnt) were on this model. The variety of different tips meant I wouldnt have to go hunting around online for more for a while. So far it has made soldering a breeze. Im very happy with the FX888D-23BY so far.

Used numerous types of irons over the years as a hobbyist but never had the opportunity to use a professional grade iron. I really wish I would have spent the money sooner. Makes a night and day difference to anything you can buy at a hobby center or radio shack (before they died). This is an amazing setup and highly recommend. I currently use this solder

All my life Ive used the cheaper Weller irons--I burned a PCB while trying to solder some very small and delicate parts. This led me to purchase this highly upgraded soldering iron which made soldering the small parts a wonderful experience. It heats up quick, maintains its temperature, and has every adapter tip you can think of.

Ive had this item for a while now. Im both sorry I didnt order sooner & yet glad that I took the time to research & find this brand. This is an excellent tool for contemporary, fine pitch work. Fast to heat, very stable temperature, very comfortable handle. The tips are easily interchangeable, which if youve been doing this awhile, you know is critical to getting the best results with different tasks. There is simply no comparison in quality between Hakko and the typical inexpensive, rather crude tools youll find in your local big box stores. Highly recommended!

I bought this soldering station and extra tips for working on rc planes and quad copters. It is the best soldering iron I have ever used. You know the exact temperature your working with, which is important when soldering on circuit boards with solder pads. The iron heats up very quickly and stays hot while you are working. The digital control is very fast and accurate. The tips are easy to swap out. Changing a tip takes just a few seconds. I really like this soldering station and would recommend it to anyone shopping or one.
