this package is great! I am just a garage hobbyist and this is amazing soldering station. I have an older weller station that is about 11 yrs old. this one works great also but no digital display or features, just a numbered knob.

After struggling with a junky radio shack soldering iron, I figured Id step up. This item is amazing. The tips are so nice and last such a long time. I run it at 750F and it does a quick and clean jog.

Great heat control and a good punch of heat when needed for thick copper tabs.

After soldering for many years, I wanted to see the proper way to solder, so I googled it. I came across a youtube video that showed a professional soldering iron. It was an older version of the Hakko FX888D. I had one of those cheap standalone soldering iron that you just plug in the wall and it starts to get hot. I wanted to control the on/off, so I got the type that looks like a gun. This type is kind of bulky. The Hakko is awesome. Very high quality machine. Gets hot in seconds. Able turn on/off at the control box. Able to control temperature. The tip that comes with the soldering iron is perfect. Its not the usual large flat-head screwdriver tip. And its not the useless needle tip either. Its a small flat-head. It works perfectly for general soldering. The holder is very sturdy/stable, and I really like the temperature control box separate from the holder. The sponge with cleaner makes keeping the tip clean very easy. The only thing that would make it better would be a case and maybe a small fan to blow the flux smoke. Other than that, I couldnt be happier.

I have only ever used cheapo $10-$30 soldering irons before. This station is in another league. Heats up fast. Temp stays consistent. Suitable for small to medium-large soldering jobs. Dont use the sponge. It can deteriorate your iron over time. Stick with the brass to clean your tips and wet your tips before storage.
