This item when I installed it looks and works great. We have a camper with a round 7 pin insert and waverunners on a trail with a flat 4 insert so this suits both well! The hardware that came with made the install a breeze and my wife was even impressed how nice it looks. Two words of warning though for us novices: 1) you have to ground the white wire even if you are hooking it up to an existing 4 flat connector. I drilled a small hole into my tow hitch underneath my car. 2) also when shipped the middle prong of the 7 pin adaptor is very tight- you need to separate the two clips to get your round 7 pin to fit correctly.

It great looks good and the plug seems to be hermetically sealed on the backside to prevent any moisture or water to get into the plug great product. the only thing that IO didnt like was the bracket that it comes with. Seamed flimsy to me and I didnt have any good place to mount it. So I just=cut a hole in my bumper and mounted the plug Looks great and mounted solid..

I trailer my racecar if I have to travel more than an hour or two to a track. I usually rent a truck (Ford F-150). The rental truck comes with a 4-pin connector for lights, but not for the electric brakes. This adapter (Hopkins 47185) allows me to connect my trailer and use the electric brakes. I purchased a Curt 56110 connector so I can just plug and play. Actually the Curt 56110 is for the lights only so I bought two Curt 56110 units and used the wiring & pins from one to modify the other to include the brake wiring. The truck has all the wiring, just not the final connector for the brakes. With this set-up I unplug the factory (lights only) connector at the rear of the truck (on chassis near spare tire) and plug in my modified connector and I do not have to splice any wires to use my trailer lights and electric brakes, and just unplug it when Im done.

If you need a 7 wire and 4 wire all in one, this will do the job. Been working fine in saltwater environment.

The number on packaging says 47185 but no bracket was included like some of the pictures show. As such, there is no way to mount it. It is useless without a bracket to mount unless you already have one or figure out which one to buy separately. As of Jan 2023, if you look at the photos for the product, you will see two different product packaging with the same 47185 item #. On one of them, the label makes it clear that the bracket is included. The other packaging does NOT indicate the mounting bracket is included. It seems I received the one without that didnt clearly list the mounting bracket as included. Since this item has been sold for years, Im assuming something changed over the years. Whether I received an old version, or a newer version of the 47185, I cant be sure. Either way, be aware there is a risk you are going to receive no mounting bracket. If you dont need the mounting bracket then this wont matter. However, I did and Im sure many/most do. If they sold the bracket separately for a few bucks, I probably would have just gone ahead and ordered the bracket. However, that doesnt appear to be the case, so I dont really know what they expect you to do.

After searching for a 7 pin adapter for my 1999 Tahoe, I purchased this 4 pin flat connector wiring kit with Hopkins 41125 LiteMate Vehicle to Trailer Wiring Kit. It was straight plug and play for my truck. I will note that you need to buy self tapping screws, as they were not included in the hardware.

Simple and easy way to make up for Fords Super failure in their 1999 Super Duty truck. Dont get me wrong - I LOVE my truck but what was Ford thinking producing a truck of this caliber with no RV7 trailer plug. Sure in 2001 they fixed the problem but I dont HAVE a 2001 truck. This was an excellent way to get on the road immediately to bring our new (to us - 1995 28 trailer) camper home from the seller. Some extra wire hookups and a brake controller and now my truck is a TRUCK again.

I have these on several vehicles- great quality. ALWAYS use the combination adapters like this so if you need to tow a trailer with either connector, you can. I learned that the hard way when I had an axle failure on my car trailer away from home- I had to get a rental trailer to get my race car home while I left the other trailer at a friends house while I had to order a new axle for it. Being able to slap a rental trailer on without buying an adapter is awesome. You never know when you may want to tow something for a friend or whatever. Its also no more wiring involved to have this combo unit.

Plugs into an existing 4-flat for lights if you have one in place, or that connector can be cut off and the wires individually spliced. The other three wires, for brakes, back-up and 12v have to be spliced. It comes with butt splices. You have to know what you’re doing. If you have a vehicle that has separate trailer light wiring and a connector underneath, like GM trucks and Suburbans, you would be much better off getting a connector made to connect to your specific brand of vehicle, and avoid splices altogether.
