Knowing there was the concept of there being joist tape most influences my rating. For the minimal cost, an almost guaranteed way to prevent the most common way your deck joists are going to rot seems like it should be a requirement of any deck build. The people that built my deck did not use it and that seems criminal unless this concept did not exist 10 years ago. As far as this particular product, it did exactly what I wanted, seemed to be good quality, adhered well. It is like slightly wider electrical tape with some roughness on the side where the deck boards would sit. I would use this product again next time I need it.

Ordered 7 rolls of Imus to protect our deck frame, because the wider 3 1/8 wasnt available through Amazon we purchased a roll of Trex Protect Beam Butyl Tape 3 1/8 as well. As far as I can tell the two products are exactly the same, right down to the pattern of packaging - the cellophane tape used to secure the roll has the same taping pattern and cut marks. The Imus is less expensive also! As far as the actual material goes, its very confidence inspiring - heavy, durable and the adhesive is AMAZINGLY sticky. In fact if youre used to Grace Vycor, you are in for a surprise...we were not expecting just how aggressive the adhesive is. Excellent and well worth the cost, we spent about $200 on our deck.

Used the tape on an existing outdoor deck that I was replacing the boards on . As long as the joists are dry the tape sticks well , if they are wet doesnt stick well . I installed a few weeks ago so no idea on longevity but it looks like it should last a long time .

It is the same product as a name brand at greater cost. You should use it to cover deck joists where deck boards will rest, and I used it as well to cover deck screws holding the frame together. By the way I recommend (and did so) to caulk every other wood penetration event though I used treated wood. Overkill costs little but I do not want to ever replace rotten wood. I used composite deck boards and expect the deck to last 25 years.

I used this on top of the joists while building my deck. This will keep out bugs and moisture to make your deck last longer.

Worked like a charm. Very simple to apply. Would purchase again.

super sticky and seems to do the job very well. Guess I wont know for years if its properly protecting my deck joists, but it looks promising. I know when I back out some screws they were covered in the sealing material, so that seems good.

I cleaned the joists and beams thoroughly with a broom and vacuum. It was going to be a hot day, so I did the taping in the morning when it was about 75 degrees. I had no problems with this tape sticking. It was fairly easy to peel and lay out. Curves on warped joists slowed things down a bit, but overall it went pretty quickly. I walked on the tape to seat it. I live in an area where the climate is generally dry, so this is probably overkill (in fact 2 people at Home Depot here had never heard of deck flash).

I recently replaced a redwood deck with a Brazilian hard wood. I noticed joist decay was primarily due to moisture in the gaps between the deck boards. After replaced and repair the joists, I applied this product. I am confident this will extend the life of the joists and deck board. Easily applied and great adhesion.

This product adheres well and has a nice rubberized feel. It is great to cover the run part of stringers before attaching the step board on deck stairs.
