I used this on top of the joists while building my deck. This will keep out bugs and moisture to make your deck last longer.

I used this Butyl tape on the tops of the joists on my new deck... It was easy to use, and will add years to my deck. Would recommend.

So used this for my first deck project in a long while. I’ve seen a lot of people using these and want to try it out. Seems for the couple bucks why not make it last longer. Obv I can’t give a did it work review. But here are my thoughts….. Install was not to hard. Very sticky so cloth gloves helped. Two people really makes a job go fast. We rolled all our tape as recommended by zip tape but this manufacturer does not suggest it. If you messed up you could pull back and fix. We used it in really hot weather so I think that made install easy. The small rolls had not trouble with install or the paper. The big roll had troubles with the paper backing. I like seeing the black in the joist spacing. Other than that it seems to be s good idea to protect the structure. I’d give it a good review but can’t give 4 or 5 star since ultimately you want to review performance as well.

As expected, shipping wasn’t as fast as expected but the product arrived and works as intended. Great product !!!

I recently installed about 800 feet of this on a very large deck we are having built in Florida. The previous all wood deck had rotted. Were replacing that deck with 25-year Trex and using ground contact lumber for the joists and framing. The previous frame had rotted from the top down, primarily associated with screw penetration used to attach the wooden decking. I wanted to give this deck as long a life as possible. Since its brand new, I dont really know if the joist tape will work for its intended purpose (sealing screw penetrations), so my rating is based on quality of product, ease of application, durability during the construction process, comments from our deck contractor, and cost compared to its main competitor sold by Trex. Its easy to apply, albeit youll sometimes get a bit of butyl on your hands. Just remove a bit of the protective film from one end and leave the tag end sticking out to the side, stick that end to a joist, line up and lay about 3-4 feet of tape on the joist, hold that end down with your thumb, reach back to the film and pull it down to your thumb and stick it, smooth the tape with your hand, and repeat. The contractors said it actually made laying the deck faster because the decking tended to stay in place as they were laying it, the plastic facing grabbed the hidden plastic fastener so it didnt move, and once installed, the black plastic fastener was hard to see against the black facing. The tape also held up remarkably well to being walked on and having boards dragged over it, though I did have to make a few repairs. Because of delays in getting our full order of Trex decking, the tape on part of the deck has been sitting exposed to rain and sun for several weeks and still looks great. Its about 30% less expensive than the competing brand, but I didnt use the competitor, so I cant compare quality. Also, the customer service was great. I underestimated the amount needed and the company owner made sure I received my reorder on time and at no additional cost.

Easy to use, super sticky, and a great value. Bought 5 for my main deck, buying more for the extension and stairs

Very easy to apply. Sticks well and until you press it firmly in place you can usually reposition it. I dont have any concerns with the tape and recently bought 2 more rolls for the next phase of my deck. After 3 months in the Texas heat, the tape is holding up well.... of course its way too early to rate the durability.

This tape is better than described. I applied it to the tops of my joists and stair stringers (glossy black strips in the photo). I wish Id know about it 10 years ago otherwise Id not be replacing my stringers. The tape withstands several step-board on and offs to install railing posts and the tape will not ride up the screws. If youre looking to extend the life of your exposed decking support structures this stuff is easy to work with.
