I bought this as a replacement extruder for my Creality Ender 5 Plus after some persistent extruder problems with my previous all-metal extruder; while that previous one worked fine with basic PLA, I had some persistent issues with more flexible filaments. This extruder cleared all those issues right up: no more clogs, clickies, or snaps. As a bonus, its also much simpler to load than any previous extruder; indeed, once you insert the filament up to the point of the extruder gears, itll thread itself without even needing to use the lever. The only small issue for me was that I needed to print a small offset plate to align the filament sensor from the Ender 5 Plus properly with the extruder, as its feed path is offset from that of the stock extruder from this printer, but thats a trivial exercise for anyone with printing experience.

my whole printer is all black so it sticks out, but its so beautiful to look at. its not worth the price if youre not printing with impregnated filaments.

This is the best upgrade you can purchase for your printer. The tolerances are exact, the dual feed gears mesh together really well, the tension system is great. No more chatter, not more failure to feed forward. I works perfectly. I did have to buy a new stepper motor because mine came with a pressed on gear, but the new one was $11. Installation was easy. Go for it, spend the money, you will not regret it.

As part of the installation, you need to cut the bowden tube from the extruder into a 45 degree point. That was annoying, trying to bevel it correctly. I would have preferred an included tube, with the cut already made. Other than that, it works well with PLA, Nylon and TPU.

Installation took less then 10 minutes and was ready to go. Followed instructions and set esteps to 130 and then did a calibration. Mine was very slightly off and had to adjust to 133.4, but the esteps they give you will work mostly which is good for those who dont know how to calibrate their esteps. Ive not had a single skip/slip while using this extruder when your extruder clicks, its skipping. All and all I would buy it again and again.

Micro Swiss put a good deal of effort into this design, overcoming pretty much all of the problems I had with the factory extruder on my Ender-3 Pro. First, the gears are much higher quality, and grip the filament better than the stock extruder, and the hardened steel gears will not wear out like the brass one did. Second, they moved the filament path to the outside, away from the Z axis rod (which is why you have to use the included reversing cable for the motor). Third, they constrained the filament path so that you can just insert the filament and turn the knob to load it - no more fidgeting with the filament to get it to go through the tiny little hole in the original extruder. And finally, its aluminum, so Im not worried about the lever breaking. The only concern I had with this kit was the fact that it uses compression fittings for the bowden tube, so if you ever have to replace the tube, youll need the correct size brass compression sleeve. They included a spare, but Id suggest buying a few extras. Also, do not overtighten the bowden fitting or you will compress the tubing and restrict the filament from going through it. Finger tight plus about a quarter turn should be sufficient - if you can still pull the tubing out, give it another quarter turn. Once I got it installed, I just keep the fitting finger tight and it holds the bowden tube securely, but I can still unscrew it easily if I need to cut the end off the filament. Finally, make sure you have the stepper motor with a D-shaped shaft. If you have one with a pressed on gear, youll want to replace it, because the plastic knob will not work with the press fit shaft, and youd need a gear puller to get the old gear off. The Creality motor costs about 15 bucks, which is less than a good gear puller, and makes installation much easier. As for the price, you really do get what you pay for. The cheap clone extruder I installed on my other printer has cost me more in wasted filament than I paid for the Micro Swiss, and I will soon be replacing it with the real deal.

When I was well in practice of using our new printer I had a lot of frustrating issues. The items and upgrades were brand new so I figured it was me and gave up for a long while. Gave up and purchased this and it solved everything. Now I can smoothly switch filament in the middle of a print with no issues!!
