Let me preface this by saying I am a huge Morakniv fangirl! They are my favorite workhorse knives, I use my Companion and my Garberg for everything inside the house and out in the bush when I hike the mountains! Moraknivs are made with pride and it shows in the product. Theyre made of average steel, but its decent metal and really properly heat treated to get the most out of the tool. I think the plastic handles are very comfortable, ergonomic, and durable, and I love how lightweight the knives are as I have arthritis and any reduction in fatigue factor is a plus for me. I have had several Companions in my life and love them, theyre the best for food prep and light carving work! You CAN abuse your Companion, but I am gentle with mine. Then I got the Garberg, and it is a beast! But I felt like something was still missing. The Companion is flexible, slender, and wonderfully lightweight to use. The Garberg is extremely thick, it blasts through chunks of wood and anything in its path. I wanted something that was a little of both, something the best of both worlds. The Morakniv Kansbol is that blade! Its a little beefier and bigger than the Companion, so it feels a bit more substantial in your hand, but its not as thick and heavy as the Garberg, and also, the geometry of the Kansbol blade is extremely unique and effective for what its born to do. Its a more agile blade, excellent for delicate carving and fine tasks, but it still has enough beef to work larger chunks of wood down. The Kansbol blade has a thicker portion near the handle and it thins out quite dramatically towards the tip of the blade. If you carve wood a lot, youll understand why those different grinds can be useful. It also came to me razor sharp. That thin tip is absolutely wicked! Kansbol comes with a hard plastic sheath as with other Morakniv and I really like these style sheaths. They click shut securely and the belt loop is good for me. Morakniv does have other options for how to carry their knives, but this basic option is my favorite. By the way, you can strike a ferro rod with the spine of this knife. Just so you know! Actually, for me, if you ask me to choose between the Companion, Kansbol, and Garberg... especially if it was my first Morakniv, I would recommend this Kansbol! You really will not be disappointed. Youre getting a very fine tool that will give you many long years of fine service! My Kansbol is the knife I carry everywhere with me. That used to be the Companion, but I think the Kansbol is so awesome and works great for my needs. Garberg is amazing, worth the cost as well; but she is my camp knife, not my everyday carry knife, she is too heavy and thick for some things like cutting food. So whether youve been thinking about getting your first Morakniv, or youre looking to add more of these awesome Moraknivs to your collection, I recommend you to try this one out! I chose the color burnt orange, and its beautiful in person. I like the green as well but I am saving that color for my fiances Christmas present! :)

Blade looked preowned, was scuffed up when received.

Razor sharp out of the box. Holds the edge very long. Handles extremely well in the hand and is very comfortable to use. Plus it’s very lightweight. Carved a large spoon out of cedar and only needed to hone up the edge once. Awesome deal too!

Fantastic product. I got this as a replacement for my Benchmade foldable knife as it was recently stolen. I needed a rugged replacement that would be an all around product. I attached it to my daypack as the straps and sleeve that came with it neatly fit on my backpack strap.

Great all purpose fixed blade. I like the shaved front of the blade for precision work. Yet the base of the blade is very robust.

This is well designed and thought out. The blade/steel quality is very good. Its sharp and super easy to tune up/sharpen. The handle feels solid with a grippy (friction pattern grip) and its easy to use for most cutting tasks. The sheath holds the knife snug and securely in place and its easy to remove quickly. The ferro rod lives in a solid snug sheath that is removable from the knife sheath and holds it in place solidly. It is a good size, is easy to get a stable firm grip on the handle and it is easy to get a good effective strike. The ferro rod sheath also has a diamond media sharpening strip attached to its outside edge for blade tuning. I really appreciate that they made the sheath design modular meaning that the ferro rod sheath can be easily removed for any blade sharpening/tuning and the belt loop can also be removed which is great since the knife sheath fits perfectly in a molle loop and since the sheath is made of plastic I can also add a strip of velcro to attach to a molle backpack or vest. This knife is a great value for the quality, good design and what is offered in this kit.

When I chose this knife to review, it completed my Morakniv collection; I now have every major knife Morakniv offers. Comparing this knife to every other knife in Moraknivs line up, the Kansbol is closest to the Garberg in terms of performance and design. Kansbol vs. Garberg: 1. The Garberg is full tang, the Kansbol is not. 2. The blade thickness on the Garberg is around .5mm thicker than the Kansbol. 3. The stainless steel version of the Garberg is slightly better than the Kansbol (The Garberg maintains an edge slightly better). 4. The Garbergs tang extends into a pommel. All of the above differences are minimal, outside of the full tang. Theres not one situation Ive been in where Id be hesitant to grab by Kansbol instead of my Garberg. Would I ultimately choose the Kansbol over the Garberg if performance and features alone where my primary concerns? No, the Garberg is still a superior knife. Would I choose the Kansbol over the Garberg if performance in conjunction with price were my primary concerns? Yes. The fact is, this knife is about 90% of what the Garberg is at around half the premium. Bottom line: In most situations, the Kansbol is all the Morakniv youll ever need. 5 stars
