Last year I bought a fancy looking bush crafting knife with a beautiful wooden handle and an impressive leather sheath. It looks like a million bucks. But with knives, how they LOOK and how they PERFORM are sometimes completely unrelated. This Morakniv Kansbol is not the most beautiful knife by any stretch, but it IS incredibly sharp, durable, and functional. Out of the package, the blade is razor sharp and ready to use. The stainless steel should withstand serious outdoor usage. The handle is comfortable and highly functional; I have medium-large hands, and it fits great for me. Ive shown it side by side with an Opinel No.8 pocket knife for size comparison. Beyond the knife itself, the sheath is excellent. Theres a perfect level of resistance to prevent the knife from coming out on its own, yet its still quick and easy to remove when its needed. Theres also a leather belt loop that looks like it should fit on any belt up to 2.25 wide. On one side of the sheath is a diamond sharpener, which will be useful if I ever need to sharpen quickly while in the backcountry. The other side of the sheath holds a fire starter. I really like the way the fire starter also snaps into place so it wont fall out while Im on the move. On the downside, I wasnt able to produce a very great amount of sparks from the fire steel they provided, and since its custom-made to snap into the sheath, I cant replace it either. (Personally I have other tools for fire starting, so Ill just consider this a backup option.) Considering the build quality of this knife, and the stellar reputation the Morakniv has built and maintained, I think this knife is a great value at $60. For me, its immediately going into my camping bin and replacing the more expensive, less functional knife I bought last year!

I am no knife expert, but I do have a handful of pocket and short-bladed utility type knifes (kabar, etc.) When I saw this on Vine, I thought it might make a nice addition to my hiking backpack or camping-gear box. I hadnt heard of Morakniv, but did a little research and learned they make quality knives, made in Sweden. So far, Im very impressed! The clamshell packaging it came in is nice enough... nothing super special. I wish it was a tiny bit nicer, considering how nice the knife is, and so it would make a better gifting experience. But its fine. But once I pulled out the knife and had it in my hands, it felt GREAT. You can just tell its nice quality immediately... the grip is a wonderful size and features a grippy rubber material, and the blade is stout and just feels like a real TOOL that will not only cut well, but pry like a champ and stand up to whatever you throw at it. Weight is perfect - heavy enough to feel solid and quality, light enough to carry easily. Nicely balanced. Really, really nice overall, and I feel like it will LAST. Kind of reminds me of the very nice scuba diving knife my dad used to have. The sheath also seems nice. Its a hard plastic that seems durable, and the knife gives a gentle click as the rubbery grip slips into position. I dont think it would ever slip out. The belt loop is a generous size and features various holes/slits for alternate attachment. The firestarter is a great bonus that adds some functionality that might come in VERY handy someday, without hampering the everyday function of the sheath. The sharpener is another great bonus. A lanyard is included, and it seems fine; not sure if Ill use it. The only question I have is value; not compared to other, cheaper brands - I think you are getting a big bump in quality and design with Morakniv, compared to cheapo blades - but compared to Moraknivs own knives! Their Companion model is highly rated and super duper cheap - you might want to look into that if the size/build/survival aspects of this knife arent necessary for you. But overall, this knife really impressed me and I would definitely look to Morakniv if I needed a new knife in the future. Ill be carrying this with me a lot on hikes/backpacking trips now for sure. Recommended!

Very pleased with this purchase. Knife grips well and minimal slip risk. Still, I added paracord through the handle to provide additional slip safety for my hand while cutting. I appreciate Mora making that possible by having the small hole in the handle. I use this knife for car camping purposes. Does a ton of jobs well. Live the burnt orange color for visibility and loss prevention. Never understood why non-warfare people want a knife that is colored (black/green/camouflage) so it would be harder to find if you misplace it.

This was my first Mora and after all the stellar reviews, I was super excited to see it arrive today. Ive got to say, however, that my enthusiasm quickly dissipated when I pulled it out out of the sheath. It was immediately obvious from the nicks and fingerprints across the blade, along with the rediculously uneven edge that the quality control was lacking when they finished and packaged mine. Its not that Im somebody who worries about my knives looking pretty, but Id like them to be sharp, and I think quality control is important. You can see in my first picture how there are flattened spots that skip along the edge of the blade. Add to that the fact that the blade is labelled as a carbon steel instead of the stainless I ordered. While I can certainly understand mistakes slipping through the cracks here and there, the combination of obvious issues really became a letdown for me. While there are those who dont care much for the sheath design, I think it will work great for wearing on my belt or carrying in my small bag. Id like to try again, and hope that we can just chaulk this particular knife up to my own bad luck. Hopefully, the second times a winner. ;) Heres hoping!

When I chose this knife to review, it completed my Morakniv collection; I now have every major knife Morakniv offers. Comparing this knife to every other knife in Moraknivs line up, the Kansbol is closest to the Garberg in terms of performance and design. Kansbol vs. Garberg: 1. The Garberg is full tang, the Kansbol is not. 2. The blade thickness on the Garberg is around .5mm thicker than the Kansbol. 3. The stainless steel version of the Garberg is slightly better than the Kansbol (The Garberg maintains an edge slightly better). 4. The Garbergs tang extends into a pommel. All of the above differences are minimal, outside of the full tang. Theres not one situation Ive been in where Id be hesitant to grab by Kansbol instead of my Garberg. Would I ultimately choose the Kansbol over the Garberg if performance and features alone where my primary concerns? No, the Garberg is still a superior knife. Would I choose the Kansbol over the Garberg if performance in conjunction with price were my primary concerns? Yes. The fact is, this knife is about 90% of what the Garberg is at around half the premium. Bottom line: In most situations, the Kansbol is all the Morakniv youll ever need. 5 stars

Fantastic product. I got this as a replacement for my Benchmade foldable knife as it was recently stolen. I needed a rugged replacement that would be an all around product. I attached it to my daypack as the straps and sleeve that came with it neatly fit on my backpack strap.
