Original DVD Drive Replacement for Nintendo Wii Game Console Plug-and-Play Unit

This is the second time the drive in our Wii died. They seem to average about 5 years before failing, just long enough to fully forget how to install them. Happily, its really not difficult, just a lot of screws, already had the tri-lobe drivers from last time though. Took maybe 30 minutes total for the whole process. Staying home with social distancing is easier with fun group games to do.

It worked like a champ but there were no directions. So I had to use a YouTube video and the guy hadnt done it before so it was a little tough but I got through it.

Original drive was not reading the games. Tried cleaning but no luck. Had to use the tripoint drivers to disassemble the Wii and swapped with this one and now works like new again.

Be sure to buy the special WII screw drivers that look like a Phillips but are 3 lobe to take the old drive out, thats the hard part. A youtube video describes the process. Very important, follow the advice to stick the removed screws on a piece of tape in the order in which they were removed. Very very important: If a five year old is helping you, stick some other screws or nails or paperclips on another strip of tape that he can play with. New drive plugged right in and has been working just fine, although it is a little loose due to missing screws,

Not to hard to install after watching youtube videos, works on dual layer discs

The easy part was installing it, the hardest part was removing all of the tiny screws. You definitely need the little screwdriver set they recommend. Worth the money!

I love the Wii and was sad when the DVD reader died. This was a great remedy. FWIW: our replacement worked for GameCube discs as well.

While the disc drive was a pain to install due to how many screws are involved, the disc drive worked perfectly! Tested and it was able to read both Wii and GameCube games without any issue, so I was thankful to not have to get a new Wii to play my old games!

I followed the instructions on iFixit website to replace this drive and it was an easy job. Brought the old Wii back to life.
