Original DVD Drive Replacement for Nintendo Wii Game Console Plug-and-Play Unit

This drive works great. I was really surprised because an ebay seller told me that they didnt have anything to work with my chipset. So I ordered this drive because it said works in all. It took a couple of weeks to receive it but it was just what I needed. After watching a video on youtube and purchasing the special Y screwdriver that was necessary to open the Wii I installed the drive and it worked perfectly.

This looked brand new to me, and had worked great!. I used YouTube to get it in. You really have to be careful about labeling where the different screws go. Nintendo was crazy in the variety of screws they used. I used an empty ice cube tray to sort the screws. It seems a little louder or slower than the original drive, but not really a problem, and it might even be my imagination. Inexpensive way to keep Wii utility.

The drive was easy to install once the Wii was opened to access the drive. Great care was required to be sure all the Wii screw locations were noted and the proper tools were used to remove/install them. The drive installation was the easy part and worked without any problems.

Fixed our Wii, and still working!

Okay for the price, I didnt expect new. This was clearly pulled from a broken machine, but it worked, it fixed my Wii, and it was cheap. I had no problem installing it, done and done. For not quite twice the price of a new optic for my old drive, and a much easier install, I got the whole drive, including motor and other things that might have been wrong with my old one. Very happy.

Our 12 or 13 year old Wii had been reading discs fine for as long as I remember. Recently when I tried to use it again in 2019, the disc drive continuously failed and would not read Wii nor GameCube games. I then started looking online for a proper disc drive replacement and ran into many different sellers. The seller for this one I believe was HongLei, but they do not always seem to have it in stock as the direct seller. As a result, my replacement drive was sent to me from a 3rd-party seller called Game Console Warehouse. The box it arrived in had the information listed from another seller of these replacement disc drives called abcGoodefg. I have no idea how reliable any of these sellers were, but this one happened to be one of the higher rated sellers, if sold directly from HongLei. When opening up my Wii, I compared the drives very closely to see if I could find anything drastically different, but it appears to be the exact part. Most likely was refurbished, but I cant really be expecting a new Wii disc drive in 2019. Installing it was as simple as just directly swapping out the drives. Very straight forward so long as you have the needed tools for the swap. I was afraid that the drive would not run GameCube games, based on the mixed reviews people had left for this product, but it reads both Wii and GameCube games in my experience. I really liked the backwards compatibility of the Wii with the GameCube, and Im glad that I can continue to play the older generation games with this replacement. It is very likely/possible that you could receive a drive that does not read GameCube games or anything at all because third party sellers are not always reliable. Only time will tell if this drive has the longevity as our old drive did.

I used this to replace a failed DVD drive in our Wii. The drive I received worked great. It looked new to me, so I cant speak to the other reviews that claim that they received a used drive. As for the installation, just find a good Youtube video that shows how to disassemble a Wii and make sure that you have the tri-wing screwdriver. If you move slowly and carefully its not that bad to do, and can be accomplished in about 1 to 2 hours with good lighting and some work space like a kitchen table.

Its been 7 years since I first bought my replacement and it continues to run like a charm. Be sure to study a teardown well in advance to be safest with your installation
