Original DVD Drive Replacement for Nintendo Wii Game Console Plug-and-Play Unit

Im certain this item was pulled from a returned Wii (under warranty). Its extremely LOUD while spinning the DVD. Can be heard from another room. Its with all DVD when playing. Disappointed. It works. All I can say. I expect the DVD to eject one day and fly across the room and go through the wall.

I ordered this to replace a defective DVD drive that couldnt read any game discs. After placing the order, I learned it was shipping from China with an estimated delivery date that was 45 days out but I received it a mere 10 days after placing the order. The replacement DVD drive was brand new and sealed inside a plastic blister pack. Replacement was a breeze using online step-by-step instructions and only took 20 minutes. Replacement requires a special tri-wing screwdriver (cheaply available on Amazon), a Phillips screwdriver (the smaller type commonly used for electronics), and tweezers... a flashlight & a magnifying glass are also helpful. Magnetizing the screwdrivers will help prevent dropping the screws and segregating/labeling the various different screws by size as they are removed will help avoid mix-up when re-installing. When removing the Wii faceplate, there is one small 2-wire electrical plug to disconnect while the DVD drive has one ribbon connector and one electrical connector... be careful when disconnecting/reconnecting these as they are delicate. This new DVD drive includes the rubber shock mounts which eliminates the need to swap them over from the old DVD drive. Once installed, this DVD performs flawlessly and makes the Wii operate like new. Performing the replacement yourself can save you $90 or more.

Shipment was quick, install was easy and it has been wirking flawlessly for weeks now. Best thing is that the family can once again enjoy game night, just like when they were younger.

I am happy to have my wii back in working order for wii games (rather than showing me an error on loading any new wii game), but since installing this drive I have lost the ability to load gamecube games... most notably, Super Mario Sunshine worked with the drive I removed (while Wii titles were broken) and now its no longer possible to play a gamecube game on my December 2006 vintage Wii. Unfortunately for me Super Mario Sunshine was the game that I (and my kids) played most often on my Wii. This means either I will be on the hunt for a different drive or a used gamecube.

This was pretty easy to install. I was a little worried at first when I saw that the unit was not an “exact” fit, but it was close enough (the plug-in connector was in a different position than the original). Everything worked perfectly and my grandsons are back in business with their Nintendo Wii system.
