PlayStation Vita Memory Card 64GB (PCH-Z641J)

> 3 dayTo this date I am still puzzled as to why Sony has not yet offered a 64 GB Vita card for North America. The free games on PS Plus have been coming in fast and furious lately and I wasnt really down with the hassle of removing games just to make room to try out new ones. This is already well documented but yes, this card works perfectly fine in a North American PS Vita system. I wasted no time loading up the card and have encountered zero issues. The price that Sony charges for these things is exorbitant but having that 64 GB capacity goes a long way for convenience and peace of mind. Now if Sony will just give up the whole custom format deal and switch their next Vita successor to a standard memory card format...

> 3 dayThe PS Vita is a system that is no longer supported by its manufacturer as well as it was when it was new but one thing that has always stayed the same throughout the lifetime of the system is it’s storage carts. They have always stayed the same price for the most part across their respective capacities and although they may seem more expensive then more traditional storage mediums they get the job done and I’m very glad to have picked up this to maximize my storage to its highest capacity.

> 3 dayI love having so much storage capacity. Through PSN sales Ive collected about a dozen games since buying my Playstation TV a couple months ago. This card would be getting 5 stars if the price wasnt so outrageous. I understand Sonys decision to go with proprietary memory cards to cut down on pirating, but they really screwed up with the price tag. Knowing I would need a large memory card because I vastly prefer digital downloads to physical media, I hesitated for years to get a Vita because the additional cost of the memory card made the price of the console unbearable. The only reason I finally got this memory card was because the Playstation TV at $50 was an easier buy-in. But even then it made me somewhat sick to be paying almost double for the memory card that I did for the console that came bundled with a controller, game, and smaller memory card. Its truly a ludicrous price, especially when you consider that the one comparable type of storage storage device, micro SD cards, are 4x cheaper. The real shame though is that Im enjoying my PS TV, and Id probably have enjoyed owning a Vita, but Sony screwed both themselves and their customers with their pricing of what I consider an essential accessory for their console.

> 3 dayIncredible. I recently purchased a PS Vita (North American unit) over the last week for $100 and it only came with a 4GB memory card. I found out immediately that this was inadequate as the game I wanted to play required at least 5GB for an expansion (Phantasy Star Online 2). Instead of buying the next highest capacity card, I figured why not check and see what the maximum capacity is? Lets check out Amazon... And well, the rest is history. This 64GB card was priced just right and had enough space for just about everything I could think of. As Im typing this I have full games and demos all downloading on the Vita, and soon Ill be able to play a myriad of games without concern of whether or not there will be space available. I say go for it if you have the cash, max out your storage and play worry-free!

> 3 dayNow that I have this card, I have an abundance of space. It took a month to get here (I thought this was a globalized economy), but it was worth the wait. There are no region compatibility issues, and a simple restore with the backup utility had me back to gaming within a half hour. I can finally download all my PS+ titles and not even be using half of this thing. To top it off, you wont find a better $/GB on any other card size (as of right now). Lastly, it is true that this only ends up being ~59GB shown on the system. This is due to the difference between base 2 (binary) and base 10 (metric) systems (1024/prefix vs 1000/prefix). The math is all there, and 64GB looks more appealing than 59.6GiB. This marketing is used for every piece of storage out there. Dont worry. Youre not getting cheated.

> 3 dayWhen I saw this here on Amazon, this was too good to pass up. Now, I hadnt even gotten close to filling up my 32 GB memory card, but I also knew that games were beginning to use up more and more memory, and so I needed something that would last me a good while. BAM! I saw this for a smidge over $100, and I knew that these were being made exclusively in Japan so I figured that the stock on Amazon may have ran out if I didnt act. Im glad I made the decision to get this. Also, just a note to other reviewers, $100 is actually a decent price for 64 GB, especially when compared to most 64 GB SD cards and regularly priced flash drives. Now, when I paid that for my 32 GB memory card I was a little disappointed that I had to pay that much when SD cards of the same size ranged anywhere from $30-$50. Another note: Its actually very simple to backup your whole entire system when youre switching memory cards. Just backup your data to your PS3 (not sure if PS4 has the ability to do this), and then after you switch out your cards, just restore your data to your Vita from your PS3, and presto! Youve just saved yourself time from having to redownload everything from the PS Store. This is done from the Data Management app installed on your Vita. One last thing: my theory is that memory cards are not going to get much bigger for the Vita, as the more memory you store on a memory card, the more likely that slowdowns could occur. I would definitely count on a 128 GB memory card to be released within the next two years, and possibly a 256 GB memory card in five years, assuming the Vita is still getting support at that time. 512 GB is going to be a stretch. For those waiting for a 1 TB memory card, dream on people!

> 3 dayDownside: so expensive that I felt guilty buying it. Its the equivalent of buying the last ticket to a ballgame from a scalper: you know youre not getting what youre paying for, but if you want it badly enough youll do it anyways and then feel like you wasted your money after. Upside: Its enough room so that you dont have to worry about card management anymore. So thats something.

> 3 dayAside from proprietary design and encryption, this card is, functionally, no different than a Micro-SD. Sony, fearing piracy paralleling that of the preceding PlayStation Portable (PSP), went and created its own memory card specifically for the PlayStation Vita (PSV), and subsequent, console version, PlayStation TV (PSTV). While this has, thus-far, successflly prevented PSV game piracy (PSVs and PSTVs have been hacked to play pirated PSP and homebrew games/programs), it has also created a significant deterant to purchasing PSV & PSTV hardware and software due to the unnecessarily high entry cost. Furthermore, this greatly hampers ones usable, digital library to a mere 64GB maximum (which is itself a rather recent upgrade in storage capacity). At this very moment, a 200GB Micro-SD card can be had for approximately HALF that of this proprietary 64GB card. Its simply rediculous in the grander scheme. The card functions, it does what its intended, though its existence is not needed as there are better products available at a lower cost that do the exact same thing (simply in a universal form). This is currently the better storage device to purchase, but the PSVs/PSTVs reliance on this card is entirely artificial.

14-04-2025A few things to understand. 1. It’s a 64gb memory card. 2. It is for the Vita. 3. It holds a lot of games, taking into consideration that most games for the Vita are 1 to 3 GB. (Sometimes less depending on what you enjoy.) 4. It isnt cheap. 5. And it is a Sony product which is why it isn’t cheap. So to the people that are giving the product a 1 star rating, stop. The price is what it is. Go complain on Sonys message boards if you dont like it. Now back to the review. Taking that all in, you need to ask yourself only one question. What price would you pay to have just about an unlimited amount of space? I was previously using a 16 GB card. Which could hold 3 to 4 Vita games depending. (Borderlands 2 takes up a lot of space to install) Now I can say with certainty that the 64 GB version can hold at least 32 games, and still have 13 GB left on standby. The standby memory has more than my 16 GB card had before adding anything to it. (Remember that the cards have coding which takes away from the storage) Meaning that the 64 GB card actually has 59 GB worth of free space – and my 16 GB had only 12.5 GB of free space. Here is a list of what is on my card. This might help show you the vast amount of space you will have (Remember, I still have 13 GB left to play with) 1. Batman: Arkham Origins (Vita) 2. Borderlands 2 (Vita) 3. Child of Light (Vita) 4. Chrono Trigger (PSX) 5. Chrono Cross (PSX) 6. Dustforce (Vita) 7. Fez (Vita) 8. Final Fantasy 4 (PSP) 9. Final Fantasy 5 (PSX) 10. Final Fantasy 6 (PSX) 11. Final Fantasy 7 (PSX) 12. Final Fantasy 8 (PSX) 13. Final Fantasy 9 (PSX) 14. Final Fantasy X-2 (Vita) 15. Guacamelee (Vita) 16. Killzone (Vita) 17. Limbo (Vita) 18. Lumines (Vita) 19. Lunar: Silver Star Harmony (PSP) 20. MediEvil (PSP) 21. Need For Speed (Vita) 22. Persona 4 Golden (Vita) 23. Rayman Origins (Vita) 24. Rayman Legends (Vita) 25. Shooter Ultimate (Vita) 26. Sly Cooper 1 (Vita) 27. Sly Cooper 2 (Vita) 28. Sly Cooper 3 (Vita) 29. Sly Cooper Thieves In Time (Vita) 30. Tearaway (Vita) 31. Walking Dead Season 1 (Vita) 32. Zen Pinball – (With at least 10 tables) (Vita)

> 3 dayMarch 23rd I bought, August 20th it died. What happened? Well, the PS Vita stopped reading the memory card. Yes, my PS Vita can still read memory cards, as I have tried others. This is also why I like to wait to write reviews on things such as electronics. After this experience I regret buying it. I bought it for the convenience of having a lot of memory, however, that was short lived, about 5 full months, it lasted. Considering the price, thats pathetic...now if only I could get a replacement from the seller or a refund... Look Ive tried everything, you can look it up and read all this other review talking about the same thing...in the end get the 32gb card or 16gb. Yes, It would be awesome to have a lot of games on 1 system; however, it seems the higher you go, the more problems.
