Im a big fan of the gen I and gen II games but went on a hiatus since then. Bought a 3ds and loved replaying the Yellow Version via virtual console. Again sparking my curiosity in the franchise... Wow have things changed.. First thing I noticed is how much easier the games have gotten. Literally no challenges, the gym leaders are a joke, even went through the elite 4 in one shot. I remember you used to have to work your ass off for that. Catching Pokémon is hardly ever a challenge in my experiences, lower hp and your good to go. The entire story is dull and is the same old thing, Use your Pokémon youve treated with love to defeat your opponents who use them for evil. Corny as hell ending by the way. Should I mention they are definetly running out of ideas for new Pokémon. Seriously ridiculous and boring designs. The WiFi functions such as GTS are a nice feature and graphics look nice. Other than that, I dont have much good to say. The Pokémon company is really just cashing out on a winning formula. Dont get me wrong, the idea of catching Pokémon and training them is always fun, just not as satisfying as it used to be.

Im a long time Pokemon player, having only missed gen 2. I tend to log hundreds of hours on each title trying to catch them all and get a team of high-level Pokemon. Pokemon Y is a little bit of mixed bag for me, its most noteworthy feature is that between it and Pokemon X they have nearly every Pokemon available without having to trade between games. However, to counter that its story is some of the worst writing Ive seen in the franchise. There isnt a whole lot of post-game content with is usually what I spend the most time doing. All of that being said this is an ok game to start on if youve never played the franchise and between this and the 3rd gen remakes you can easily catch them all if that is what youre interested in doing.

Our boys - ages 10 and 15 (when we bought this) have really enjoyed this game. Our 10 year old bought it for our older son for Christmas because he knew he was getting Pokemon X for Christmas and he felt bad for our 15 year old! : ) LOL I told our 15 year old son that and he was truly touched and it made him that much more willing to play the game with our younger son! In Pokemon Y players will go to a place theyve never been before - the Kalos Region, and have the ability to see and collect new Pokemon theyve never encountered before - which is always fun. With X and Y it brings the count of Pokemon to well over 600 Pokemon - Im not sure exactly how many. There are forests, cities, and at the center of all of this is Luminose City - which from what the boys have shown me is all pretty cool. Our younger son really likes to show me when one of his Pokemon is about to evolve - it is pretty cool! In the new games, X and Y, there are some pretty tough Pokemon to catch - which makes the game all the more difficult - it adds a new and more challenging element. There are new moves, new attacks, and a couple of new types of Pokemon never before introduced in other games before - grass and leaf. It all makes for some exciting and interesting game play. If your kids are Pokemon players, Id highly recommend these two new games!

Pokemon Y was the first game I have played in the Pokemon series since Red and Blue. I was amazed at how the game has progressed since then! The graphics are incredible, the game play is simple, there are plenty of tasks to complete in the game, and a number elements that will bring up nostalgia from older games (the battle music, the thrill of catching Pokemon, the Elite Four). There are also plenty of nuances that I had never experienced before, like Mega Evolution. Would definitely recommend! It was a bit easier than I remember the other games being, but maybe thats just because Im a little older and a littler wiser than the 7-year old me who was playing Red Version.

As someone who grew up on the much-beloved original Red/Blue/Yellow, and played every subsequent version (which, frankly, paled in comparison to Gold/Silver), Pokemon Y ( & X) are the best. The gameplay is very smooth, and a lot of the frustrating pieces (lengthy battle entrance animations, long Pokemon Center healing animations, long saving times, etc) have all been improved. Zones are often continuous for long periods of time, even with the 3D rendering, and the graphics are altogether gorgeous. The 3D view for battle animations is amazing--taking Pokemon Stadium and putting it into a handheld! If you are hesitant about this because youve been out of it for so long, this game will easily guide you back into Poke world.

Ive been a fan of Pokémon since Red and Blue appeared here in the US. From that point on, Ive been getting my hands on at least one game from each series as they released. After Ruby and Sapphire came out on the GBA, nothing quite pulled me into the world of Pokémon like they had. That isnt to say I disliked the DS games. I still enjoyed them, but I wasnt enraptured like I had been before... this is, until X and Y appeared. I bought Y first, but it wasnt too long after that I bought X. Pokémon X and Y have so much to offer anyone who tries them out. I felt nostalic on occasion, as well as a brand new sense of adventure. For the very first time, you get to see the world in 3d. You also get to play with, feed, and pet your Pokémon! Plus, the new region, new villains, and new legendaries are absolutely fun and awesome. Whether youre new to the series or youre a Pokémon Veteran (like me), the odds are that you will enjoy this game.

Ive been a fan of the franchise since Sapphire. The latest installment does not disappoint. Ill give this to Game Freak, they keep tweaking the game just enough to keep it interesting. In the latest flavors you can buy new clothes for your trainer, and interact with your Pokemon by giving them a scratch on the head. The one feature that has me addicted at the moment, is the Wonder Trade. Even moreso than rushing from gym to gym in search of badges, I keep snatching up Pokemon and thrusting them into the cosmic slot machine. You put a Pokemon out there and randomly receive one back. Ive landed everything from the most generic fodder to shiny rares beamed to me from other versions and countries. It really is pretty addictive. And as far as the game goes, its pretty engaging, as well. The graphics are oh-so-pretty and the battle/puzzle/repeat methodology never seems to get old. With old favorites like Pikachu and Charmander, and a whole new class of Pokemon in the Fairy type, theres all kinds of critters to catch. At the end of the day, if youre a fan of the franchise... theres a lot to like about the newest Pokemon adventures.

This is the game I have been waiting for as a fan of pokemon since 1999. This is the 3d, all encompassing version of pokemon we had been waiting so long for and the game delivers. Some pokemon designs leave a bit to be desired and there was not a TON of new pokemon, but I feel the changes overall make this game an awesome one. The new pokemon are amazingly designed, the new type, fairy gave us new life to older monsters and the mega evolutions changed the metagame that was quite stale in generation 5.

The missus played it nonstop so it worked! Got it as birthday present along with a 3DS as she kept hinting at NOT wanting a 3DS...hahha! She loved it. She beat it in a couple weeks, though. I wont talk about the game too much, since Ive only had the opportunity to have quick glances over shoulders, but all the 3D-ness is fun and the connectivity is great. I spent half an hour Wonder-trading (randomly trading with random other players) in hopes of getting legendaries...(ok, thats not happening). But beyond that, best check out some game review websites... Great buy. Its also available in the digital Nintendo store, but its more expensive, so if the two day (Prime) wait is not too long, get it here!

First Pokemon game I have played in earnest since the days of Pokemon Yellow on the Gameboy Color, and all I can say is, GOTTA CATCH EM ALL! I truly havent played any of the Pokemon games since Gen 1, but I loved them dearly. I enjoyed many hours playing, battling, trading, catching, and raising my beloved Pokemon from those days. Recently, my daughter spied Pokemon on Netflix and wanted to watch it, thus rekindling my long, lost, nerdy love for this creatures! In talking with friends I knew who still had played the games over the years, they recommended I get Pokemon X or Y since I now had a 3DS. I chose Y because I liked the legendary better - who can blame me? So far, it is such a wonderful, immersive, and addicting game! Heck, my daughter loves it too. She loves the Poke Amie and petting all of her Pokemon (which is to say, cute Pokemon Ive caught). The core gameplay is relatively unchanged, and that is a good thing. But the new elements introduced have been introduced so seamlessly over the years, that I had no trouble understanding and adjusting to these newer mechanics. Overall, I am loving my experience and cannot wait to continue the journey!
