Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus | VHS, Hi8, V8 Video to DVD or Digital Converter | Amazon Exclusive 2 Bonus DVDs [Windows]

I used this plus an old working VCR to convert a set of 4 VHS home movies my Dad made in the 80s. Rather than use the software on the CD included, I downloaded the latest version from Roxio (plus an update) and it worked well on my 9 year old Windows 10 machine (AMD FX 8120 3.1 Ghz CPU, 16gb ram, and 512GB SSD). Rather than let it run for the whole 2 hours, I sectioned my videos up in 20-30 minute segments to make it easier to manage. I was able to create video files to put on USB flash drives to hand out to family, as well as menu-driven DVDs (which I created using the built in Roxio MyDVD). The software feels a bit dated, but then again so are the source VHS tapes. Overall Im pretty happy to be able to archive these home movies using this affordable solution.

Purchased this product a while back to convert VHS tapes and other media to digital format. The program would export the video using the supplied hardware device, but when trying to create a DVD, it would not play on my DVD players. Tech support said the program was not creating NTSC formatted output, and to use MyDVD to create a DVD. That kinda worked. They fixed the NTSC issue a few months later, and it worked maybe once. So to create a DVD from the captured video content, I use a third-party program. I then tried to use the program to capture audio from cassettes or LPs. Again the program would capture the audio ok, but when I tried to burn a CD, it would crash the program. I worked with tech support for countless hours on different suggestions, but that proved fruitless. So again I used a third-party program to burn CDs. THE BOTTOM LINE IS, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT, UNLESS YOURE WILLING TO PUT UP WITHA LOT OF HEADACHES TRYING TO GET THE SOFTWARE TO WORK THE WAY ITS SUPPOSED TO WORK. OR BE ABLE TO WORKAROUND ITS FLAWS.

I hated that right after I bought it it was $30 cheaper. It works well enough. I had some trouble with the cable, even bought another attay, which didnt work, had to pop it open, it somehow disconnected it from the pins inside, plugged it back in and it was good to go.

I previously owned a VHS to digital converter that I liked really well, but it only worked on my really old Dell desktop (circa 2003). But when the video card died in it, I tried to install it on my new laptop and it wouldnt work. Thus, I tried this product because I didnt want to waste a lot of money buying an entirely new kit with a VCR which I didnt need since it came with my last kit. Onto this product: PROS: 1) Simple install (pop the disc in and follow prompts, or go to their Web Site and download the software). Plug converter into your computer and (USING YOUR OWN RCA or S CABLE) plug into your camcorder or VCR. (I ended up buying a cable from Walmart for about $8.00 to make it work) 2) Fairly simple user interface: The screen is pretty self-explanatory. Large record button, and tabs across the top tell you which part youre on in the process. CONS: 1) It wont let you change the name of your video file once you have started recording. For several of my first attempts, I didnt see the place to put the name in until after Id started, but it wont let you change it in the program. 2) Progream seems simple enough to use, however, it DOESNT work properly! I successfully transferred 2 tapes then went to do the 3rd one. I have tried FOUR times now. It looks like its recording then when it automatically stops at the end of the tape (good feature theoretically), the program gets forever stuck on the finishing step. I literally let it sit there for more than 2 hours to finish a 30 min video recording and it never did! I had to force a shutdown, which of course lost the video Id recorded. Over and over again this happened. I am so fed up Im ready to return it and buy another one! This is ridiculous and I never had problems with my old one! 3) Video quality is terrible. Again, using the VCR from my previous purchase, which includes the lovely old-school tracking buttons to try to get rid of those annoying lines across the tape, I have had ZERO success it making any tangible difference to the tape quality. And from my previous lovely four attempts on the same video (from 1999), I can tell you how incredibly INCONSISTENT the video quality is on the program! Some attempts were much clearer than others, and i had to keep rewinding to try to get to the start of the tape again and when it re-recorded, the lines would be across the entire thing all of a sudden (when they werent there before) or the video would freeze, even though the tape was clearly still playing behind it! AND, it kept cutting out as though there is a short in the cord. The screen would just suddenly flash no video feed detected even though it was still playing. It was usually only for a second or two, but sometimes was as long as 10 seconds or longer. Ridiculous!! Both this product and the RCA cable I used, were BRAND NEW. I suppose there is a chance that the RCA cable from Walmart was defective, but I have no way of knowing that. 4) Claims to be able to export video files in MPEG, which is what I wanted since I will be sharing these home video files with family who own a variety of equipment to view them on, but that feature doesnt work either! (and my laptop is a year old, so it isnt that) It will only allow me to export a video file in WMV which makes it specific to windows users without a conversion program. So...overall, dont waste your money. Go the more expensive route and get the entire system with the included VCR rather than this piece of junk. If i even bother to try to keep using it, its going to take me another 20 years to get the small box of tapes transferred to digital (if it ever works.)

In writing so called Customer Service at Corel/Roxio explaining that I was using the product but found the USB/Audio/Video adapter had a short in it and that I had to use the unit with it shifted to the far right to get it to work properly. I sent them my Amazon order information and received a you will hear from us within 24 hours which turned into weeks with a follow up and being told case was under review. Regards, Devi Corel Customer Support Services ROXIO is a division of Corel and horrid Customer Support and there is NO SERVICE to their so called Support Service. The product when working properly is quite good for the money and conversions of other media is pretty simple ONCE you figure it out. Actual in depth instructions do not exist and even saving to a folder you create and tell it to use often dont happen and goes into a default folder. My product as stated has a short in the wiring which is not a common report and as stated, by adjusting the adapter to the right, works fine. I probably could have simply sent it back for exchange with Amazon/Dealer but once you start a project you dont want to set it aside waiting and though I had read some really bad reviews on Corel/ROXIO Customer Support, Having used their products years ago I thought them to be exaggerated in the negative ..... they werent. So over all, great little product IF you are semi tech savvy but a challenge if you are not. AND if you get a faulty unit dont waste your time contacting Corel/Roxio and calling the or contacting [email protected] or using their 1-877 number is a total waster. Yet, there is a yellow sticker on the box : Share your experience! Log into Amazon, go to orders, find your product, click on write a product review, enter your review, click submit One would think they would actually care what customers write and work at correcting product issues with verified buyers..... guess not.

After you figure out the quirks, this product works extremely well. For my first few tries, the audio was distorted. To fix this, I had to do two things. 1) in windows sound properties, I made the volume VERY low (3%). 2) in the vhs software, I made the volume slider also very low (pretty much all the way to the left plus a tiny amount). After that, audio was perfect and surprisingly not as quiet as those settings would have you believe.

Easy to use this product. Bought this to digitize my home videos and works as it should.
