> 3 dayTotally easy, just plug it into your Mac and it does its job. Follow your instructions on your Mac, but you have other options too, if all you want to save is photos. I didnt need tech support, so left that at not rated. But its there if you need it. I have 3 of these.

> 3 dayI needed a extertnial hard drive to backup my IMAC. It only has USB-2 portals. They advertised that it was a US B-3 unit but compatable with USB-2. The problem have run into with this (and other companies) is that dont bother telling you that a USB-3 male will not plug into a USB-2 female

> 3 dayI just needed to free up space on my hard drive. The bundled backup software really slowed my machine down. Without it, the drives work fine as a place to put files I do not want on my own hard drive.

> 3 daySeagate offers great customer support. I needed advice before I bought the first Ultra Touch because I just bought an IMAC and need to transfer files from PC to MAC. No problem. No re-formatting. It speaks both languages. A bit later on I bought a second one specifically to run the IMAC TIME MACHINE. Highly recommended.

> 3 dayIve only had it a couple weeks. Found it very hard to get started and finally got it working and my data backed up via a Mirror file - had to move all my docs to a Mirror file on my PC (a Mac Pro). Then it somehow got locked and my password, which I meticulously saved, does not work - cannot access my data nor does it back up any more - says folder missing. I read on one of the reviews to do a factory reset which I will try. I do not want to return the product since it does have my data on it. I cant access it but fear someone else could. Update- I plugged it into a different USB port on my laptop and it works fine again.

> 3 dayI have had to go to snapshot only function to make it trustworthy. The software for the device often fails to recognize the computer when I plug it back in, the device itself had to be scanned and repaired, and it fails to properly update files when I activate it. Ive had other Seagate Drives that were OK. Im sure my experience isnt average for the device. I have about 35 years experience including college training in computers, software, and have continuously used a wide variety of programs/apps on multiple higher end computers and laptops. Some of my files are highly proprietary, valuable, and not reproducible other than from backup, so I need a fully dependable backup systems. Of course, I do multiple backups periodically, one other is an automatic system which to date, has been flawless. For me, this device is my least favorite ever. I do have a much earlier La Cie (ca 2005), same company, which has been great and still functions as a tertiary file cabinet.

> 3 dayI loved this thing since I got it at the tail end of 2019. I save all my important docs, pictures, emulators, etc on this drive. I do not use it for automated backup and I use a Miscrosoft Surface Book 2. My issue with this hard drive is sometimes it takes a while for it to load after putting in my password. The high probability of constantly troubleshooting and losing all of my precious data freaks me out. I can deal with unplugging and re-plugging once or twice to get it to work. Tonight I tried to get it to load for 3 hours, doing combinations of laptop restarts, unplugging and re-plugging, switching power cords, trying to use Toolkit to deactivate the password feature (thats where it always seems to freeze and stop responding). It seems like it doesnt stay powered on long enough through the loading process and just stops responding. I have not tried calling customer support yet as its almost 23:00 EST as of this writing, but I may try tomorrow. If it is something that is easily fixed, I would love to give it 5 stars. UPDATE 2/22/21: I was finally able to disable password encryption and no issues! 4 stars only because Im not sure if it will act up again when I re-enable it.

> 3 dayMy husband set it up for me, I went to plug it into my computer to back up more photos and it was Locked and I don’t know the password… my husband has a different external hard drive and I now use that one because I don’t have to worry about it locking on me.
