The Seagate 2TB external hard drive comes with its own backup / restore software. The file selection criteria is very easy to set for regular or on demand backups. Only backing up the files that have changed greatly shortens the backup process. I highly recommend this drive.

I dont know why I keep buying Seagate backup external hard disks. Every one Ive bought over the years has been troublesome on my Windows PCs. The hard disks themselves have been flawless but the automatic backup software has routinely failed to automatically back up my data. This one sometimes gives me an error that the volume cannot be found and that it needs to be formatted but then the next time I turn the PC on, it works fine. Every few minutes I get a pop-up message on the screen, sometimes saying the backup has failed, sometimes saying the backup was successful. On the other hand, this one has the ability to add a password to protect the contents of the hard disk, which is a good security feature.

As noted in other reviews it worked right out of the pkg on my MacBook Pro w/o any formatting. Used solely to store my tens of thousands photos. Bottom gets pretty warm as it is a HDD & not an SSD. Write speed is slow but I knew that when I bought it for the price. Device side of cable appears proprietary (see photo). Didnt use any of the SW provided on the drive. Nameplate says made in Thailand in 2022.

bought this due to review comparing it to other drives by same manufacturer However still find it unbearably slow Now honestly, moving gigabites in volume is a lot of bits to move, so ???? .... but it clearly is usable as back up storrage only and NOT for live use of anything beyond looking at a small sized jpg . I am not unhappy, if it holds up as Back up storrage, but will need to find additional solutions

I needed to transfer files from a PC to a Mac and this did it without trouble. No software to install or setup required for what I was doing. Dragged & dropped the files from the PC, unplugged it, connected it to the Mac, and dragged the files off. Easy.

Got it as a compact drive to transfer data between two computers. Love the size and it works great so far.

I have a Mac. I got it in 2011. Shes plugging away working along just fine. Ive never had a problem with it. But its 9 years old. I had a Dell and then a Sony PC, and those lasted about five years. Maybe I could have dragged out a few more years. But 9 years. Thats a long time. I have so many pictures and videos of my loved ones. If I lost them, then Id feel bad. So I did some research looking in to ways to back up everything. Somehow I settled on this. I had hooked it up to my Mac, and it prompted Time Machine to launch. It guided me to set up the device. Now it just automatically backs up periodically. As its connected, an icon appears on my computer screen Backup Plus. I can click on it and view the files. Each backup is dated. Each backup has all my files, my tax data, my checkbook, my financial data, the file with all my passwords, all my pictures, all my videos and all my music. Its there. I can check it. I can click on it. So I know its backing up periodically, and if something happens to my old computer, then Ill still have all the data. And it wasnt even that expensive.
