Bought 2 to start learning hawk throwing. Have been putting them through their paces for 2 weeks now and so far so good. Tough tools which are great for throwing. Replacement handles would be great, have taken a few small chunks out by hitting the lodged axe with the flying one. The Torx bolt heads are a little on the soft side so make sure you have good Torx keys, size 10. I had a little play in both axe heads after a few days, opened up the bolts and used a little thread lock, seems to have done the trick. Some people find the axe handles slippery, I didnt, even when wet. All round, happy with them, would love to have replacement handles though!

when buying this you really need to ask yourself what the intended use would be. the fasthawk is really quite small and light. its ideal as compact and lightweight tool and to be used as such. mine did come very sharp, the spike is somewhat blunted with a tiny point. again this tool is great for the right purpose but I wouldnt recommend it for self defense as the handle is extremely short when compared to say, the frontier hawk. I wouldnt recommend it as the best throwing hawk either. its light, lacks power and penetration. its still better than nothing when faced with a dilemma, no doubt. this tool really shines as a compact survival, backpacking, and camping tool. not recommended for a large person. it will be toy size. if youre looking for a real hawk and reading this, then I suggest you look at the full size hickory handle hawks. they are much much more powerful and versatile. I have some of both. this hawk is cool in its own right but I prefer a real hawk any day for any use. so to each their own. ive now got one of these now. but I wouldnt purchase another one over any of the cold steel hawks. shipped and arrived promptly. was very very sharp out of the box.

Ive never owned any sort of tomahawk or hatchet before, so I wasnt really sure what to expect. When the SOG Fasthawk arrived in the mail, it was exactly the size I expected it to be (I purposely ordered it over the larger model). A burning question among buyers, including myself before buying, was why buy the polished model? Simply put, tomahawks are for throwing, and for most people who would throw a tool like this, an all-black model would be hard to find given you miss your target and you didnt quite catch where the hawk bounced off to. The extra few dollars are well worth the extra visibility of finding your hawk if you lose it in the bush. Not to mention it looks absolutely awesome in the air! I bought the Fasthawk (keep in mind, its 12 inches long from the head to the base of the handle) because Im a smaller person (55, 120 lbs) with little hands, and also for the ease of concealment. They both have plastic sheaths manufactured for them, but they cost about the same as the hawk itself and for most people the nylon sheath is enough. The reduction in size and weight means that any action you perform with the Fasthawk will be weaker than if you did the same with the Tomahawk (15 inches overall, same measurement points). The tomahawk has the edge as an all-around tool, but the fasthawk, I think, has the edge as a weapon. Swings and throws are faster, and it can be stowed away in even a simple drawstring backpack. For me, the smaller model was the ideal buy. Throwing these hawks is a matter of distance judgement and consistent throwing technique. If you can master both of those, youll be able to hit targets at some pretty wild distances within a few weeks of normal use. Regarding quality and neatness of the product, Id say SOG did a very good job in the manufacturing process, and they know how to make a hawk for sure. I once threw mine and thought Id have to reprofile the entire edge because I missed my target and my hawk slammed edge-first into a rock. By some miracle, the edge was fine and only needed a 1 minute file session to get rid of the burr that formed on the point of impact. For stainless steel, the head is extremely tough and will last a long time. Reading through my own review, Ive realized Tomahawks are one of those things were theres just so many uses that its hard to choose which of the basic few models would be the most worth it. To be honest, if youre not nit-picky and your habits are flexible, buy whichever one you want; its more about size for you. If youre a stickler when it comes to your gear, then you might have to think a little bit. Polished or unpolished? Tomahawk or fasthawk? Should I even buy a SOG or buy a more expensive, higher quality model? How about that new voodoo hawk? The choices are seemingly endless, but rest assured that SOG makes a mean line of tomahawks regardless of which one you buy. Cant go wrong with these hawks.

    Greater than one week

I bought this ax on a whim so I could have something to chop wood with when I go camping. After testing it out, Ill definitely be using it for a lot more than that. The tomahawk itself is very lightweight and balanced. It feels good in your hand. The blade is very tough, and Ive seen no wear whatsoever in my testing. Its got a very sturdy handle (not metal) which makes it light enough for throwing. Some people have complained about the handle being slippery or hard to hold, but even when its wet I can easily swing it around and keep a good grip on it. My only complaint is that the included sheath is a bit awkward/unwieldy (it takes a bit of work to get it out). If youre looking for a lightweight, durable multipurpose tomahawk for under 50$, this is for you.

The only bad thing about this is the cover. I ordered a better one from the company. The cover it comes with is just a bad design that can hurt you if you dont pay attention.

I carry and use axes almost all the time. This one is shorter and smaller and lighter than any I have ever carried. It should be great for hiking or hunting as well as fire and bushcraft. It is made in China but seems to be very well made and of a fairly hard stainless steel which takes an edge easily but also seems to hold it better than many stainless knives and tools. I am pleased and will substitute this in my hiking bag for the twice as heavy 19 tomahawk I have been using. The only caveat to buyers is look at the overall length and notice that it is shorter (at 12 3/4 OA) and provides less leverage than what you might have been using.

SOG Fasthawk. I bought this for my son for his tenth birthday (got one in all stainless too) and could not be happier. He has become very interested in throwing hawks and I wanted to encourage this activity as we can do it together. I bought a classic style hawk as well (a mouse hawk) along with this item so he two different styles and could see what he liked. By far, he loves the SOG Fasthawk. The edge came hair shaving sharp and while the spike seemed a little blunt, it sticks very well. For his size and strength, this tomahawk is perfect. The handle length and weight and balance are exactly what he needs. I had looked over the 3 pack of SOG throwing hawks, but decided that the Fasthawk seemed more durable. My son has chipped them up a little in the month he has been throwing them, but that is to be expected. The stainless steel head sharpens easily to a keen edge and retains it well. As an adult, I think that it is a great throwing tomahawk and could be used in a pinch as a lightweight camp hatchet. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. Oh, almost forgot, for $17 how can you go wrong. Stock up, throwing hawks rake a lot of abuse. So, to recap, this is the perfect starting out tomahawk for a boy ir girl or anyone ad it is lightweight, well balanced, well made, and has a price that can not be beat. The low maintenance of the stainless steel is great for a kid too.

I ordered the Fasthawk for a bed side go-to defense tool. I was surprised and a little disappointed by the small size when it arrived. I have hammers that are bigger. In fact I ended up ordering the full size Tomahawk from Sog as well. It just arrived. I like the larger size but it is MUCH heavier than the fasthawk. I now appreciate how quick and nimble the fast hawk is. For tight hallway fights, give me a fasthawk. For close combat with some room to dance...give me the full size tomahawk. Btw, the handle is a bit slick. Only disappointment in design. It will work though.

I like the Tomahawk for the size and its utility is restricted by ...you guessed it...its size. I mean it will not hack through redwoods or denser bones of those crazed zombies...however it will get you out of a fix real quick. It is sturdy, the hatchet surface area is small but usable..and if you miss the target ...dont worry the other side will hit!!! Great potential. Ive used it on wood about 3-5 inches in dia. and it was great for making some caveman like spears and shaping/creating/construction activities. If it ever same down to a situation of do or die...this will be a piece to have on your holster. Sharpen it to perfection ...I give it 4* due to size but this is a great buy and a useful piece. In short-add it to your collection....aim....steady yourself....practice...for those perfect zombie head shots!!!
