> 3 dayAfter opening them up and flashing Tasmota firmware to the onboard chip, I can now control these via MQTT and my home control system without an internet connection needed. A VPN connection handles off-site control. I am currently using them to schedule lamps and equipment chargers periods of activity.

> 3 dayQ: Why would my firewall block a well known Ch___ government monitoring site? I guess Im a suspicious person by nature, but while setting up my Sonoff Type B wifi Smart Plug (S40TPB) I got enough red flags to make me return it. A), the instructions ask me to turn on my phones location settings and share my phones location with the Smart Plug. OK, yellow flag, but I suppose that makes sense - sorta. B) Be sure that the MAC address of the device is not on the BLACKLIST of your MAC management [I presume they mean my network firewall. Blacklisted equals a huge RED FLAG for me. C) Please contact your ISP [Internet Service Provider] and confirm our server address is not shielded [I presume they mean blocked]. cn-disp.coolkit.cc and other coolkit.cc hostnames are basically in C___a, right? Quick question for anyone reading this far; why does a blacklisted server in C___a needs to know when I turn your lights on and off? After a few minutes of digging around to see where my turn the light on requests were being routed to, I quickly unplugged this little monster and promptly brought them to my nearest UPS store for a full refund.

> 3 dayI got this because I was looking for a smart plug that would alert me to the current dropping below a certain level, which this claimed it could. However this requires integration with IFTTT, which has an additional in app cost. Even after purchasing that, it would not integrate and I could not set up my alerts. Fortinatly I was able to get my money back from google, and return this plug. as far as a basic smart plug with Alexa goes it worked just fine before I returned the item.

Greater than one weekI have found the Sonoff plugs to have a better range and reliability of other plugs I have purchased. The company allows for easy hacking via circuit board pads and the use of the ESP8285 chip. Even without flashing your own code the setup is fast and it connects with Alexa without problems using the eWeLink app.

> 3 dayGreat smart switch from an excellent company. These are rated at 15 amps and they monitor power usage also. Fully compatible with Alexa. And have an excellent control application. If youre into Home Assistant you can easily flash these with Tasmota and goto the next level. Highly rated A+

18-11-2024I installed this product on an in-the-water boat to monitor and control a 1500W heater, using the Smart Life app. The initial configuration was a bit difficult, but it worked through the manual pairing procedure. A seemingly unlimited number of on/off cycles can be programmed by the day of week and hour, or control manually via the app. It relays wattage in use and current voltage at the plug (whether on or off). It will report total kW-hrs used over a month and cost if you input cost/kW-hr. I have several wifid temperature modules mounted in the approximate same location on the boat as well and have some connectivity difficulties with them. There has been no connectivity issues with this plug/adapter and it has been very reliable.

Greater than one weekI love these switches because they are cheap but durable and (assuming you are not afraid of soldering) it isnt so difficult to replace the Sonoff software with something open source like Tasmota. They are my goto power-measuring device on my home automation system (Home Assistant) for household appliances. But here is my warning if you do intend to reprogram them: to open up the case, you need to extract three screws and these are always in so tight that it is extremely easy to strip them, or damage the case, or both.

> 3 dayFlashed Tasmota, and calibrated power use. They are working great, except I found out my deep freeze uses a lot more power than I thought it did.

Greater than one weekI used them for a week with eWelink, and after two days they no longer reported power consumption quickly, or at all. I tried flashing them with ESPHome to test if they were bad and nope, they were perfect, and i was able to read power consumption super fast (down to 0.2s) and accurately every time. If you are considering buying them, go ahead, they are excellent if you flash them with Tasmota or ESPHome. Do not buy the S40/S40 Lite if you plan on flashing them (Very hard to open and uses the BL602 chip, that isnt supported by literally anything). And finally, remember the S31 Lite DOES NOT have power monitoring

> 3 dayI bought a few Sonoff switches years back and needed more smart plugs. So as to limit my app-footprint, I ordered more Sonoff. Price is higher than other smart plugs but to keep my system with as few Chi-com manufacturers as reasonable i had to go this route. If you dont know there are 2 types. One offers live electrical useage stats and the other is basically a switch only, no data. They setup easy and work well. I never have them go off-line or die. I wish their price was about half what they are. Shipped fast.
