Greater than one weekGreat quality pencils, with its own set of pros and cons. Use this if you want to make clear consistent lines that you are confident of. Since it is mixed with carbon instead of being pure graphite it not have that shine that appears with regular graphite pencils when you shine light directly on it. But also because of the carbon this makes the pencil slightly harder to erase with than regular graphite pencils. Using eraser on the darker pencils can actually smudge instead of completely erasing so be careful. I recommend using lighter quality pencils like 2H or 4H for initial sketching before using 2B, 4B, 6B, or 8B for drawing and rendering the picture. Useful addition for any artist.

> 3 dayI have the Mars Black and they are smoother but sometimes the black doesnt mesh with the lighter grades. So I thought I would get around to giving these a try. Several of the pencils in the set have been hard to sharpen. Frustrating to have them keep breaking before you even get to use them. I tried several different sharpeners and it made no difference. Secondly a couple of the pencils actually smell unpleasant when sharpening them. I love pencils and have lots of brands so this was kind of surprising the smell of the wood. A couple of the pencils are scratchy too - easily digging lines into the paper. (My Prismas dont do that even in the lightest grades). However after adjusting for that they were ok drawing a picture. Not fabulous however.

03-06-2025solid high quality german made pencils with quality graphite. one thing to note about these pencils: the 7b and 8b are not really graphite, they are a carbon based blend that causes the pencil to grip the paper and make more noise. This also means they are very dark and not shiny like graphite. They are far darker than any graphite pencil. the remaining four harder pencils are a more typical graphite pencil, and also are very dark and very smooth. Derwent graphic 9b is lighter in shade the staedlter lumograph 6b. As an added bonus, the difference in darkness between the 6b, 4b,2b, and hb is basically nothing, despite the lead being harder.

Greater than one weekI could feel a difference from the moment I started sharpening. It was a nice smooth turn to a nice fine tip. The graphite glides across the page without chipping and erases easy. I like the distinct design and overall performance.

> 3 dayJust got them and surprisingly LOVE them and the 8B is the darkest of any brand if you are looking for a really dark black. I actually bought a dozen Conte Extra Fine Drawing Pencil in 2B (French) because they are so black, but you cannot use them until the very end of your drawing as they are waxy and do not lift well, so it is not a good idea to use them for layering until the very end when you are adding the finishing touches to your piece. Also, you need a very light tough otherwise the lead breaks off and can create quite a mess. And to tell you the truth, I did not think that I would like these, have no idea why, but bought them as I was told that the 8B was really dark black, which is a hard value to achieve. So, I would say that statement is correct, and this brand has the darkest 8B of any brand and I have used Prismacolor, Derwent, Faber-Castell 9000, Cretacolor. My favourite being Derwent, as it also has water soluble and coloured graphite which is fabulous. Actually I am not that impresses with Faber-Castell 9000 as they are scratchy and I think damage the paper, and off course make it harder to lift without leaving impressions. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!
