Well made lantern, I liked the first one I bought so much I got a second as a backup for emergencies. small compact unit that runs a long time on 3 D cells with 3 brightness levels.

Works great camping, in tent, outside. We really like this lantern. It is a lantern style (ie carrying it like a flashlight can be blinding to others ). The handle to hang it from folds down again the light part out of the way when desired. So far we havent had to replace the batteries. Its very sturdy and durable feeling too - not cheap plastic feel.

This models price is low for this brand, but I also bought two sets of rechargeable D batteries and a battery charger for this mode, so my total was not actually very cheap. Maybe Im more sensitive than most people, but I dislike the cold, harsh, piercing frequency of the white light from these LEDs. So much so that I actually dont like using this lantern. This type of white is like the irritating rays from overhead flourescent tube bulbs in a bad gas station bathroom, or the blinding surgery light that a dentist positions over your mouth. I would much rather have a softer type of white light, which would also fit much better with the whole lantern concept. It could be just as bright - thats not the issue, but Im taking about a wavelength that is a slightly more yellow tone than blue. I might try to find some colored plastic film that I can cut to size and insert around the inside.

We seem to have a lot of power outages and you can not read with candles. This was a great buy because you can see, it if very bright and we have used it so many times for other things like going under the house, fine detail reading. We use it several times a week for non power outage situations. This was one of my best purchases. Highly recommend
