Got this AP to replace a dying TP-link PoE AP I was using. I have a true synchronous gigabit ftth (fiber to the home) connection running through a dedicated pfsense box running on its own system. I always get 1000mbps through my gigabit wired devices. I do not have any connection issues or slowdowns anywhere in my network, except for this ubiquiti AP. I know the 800mbps is total throughput and not even close to real world speed expectations but just 3 feet away from the AP I was getting roughly 20 mbps down and 20-40mpbs upload on the 2.4ghz channel. The 5ghz channel was able to do better at around 180mbps down and 260ish up. My TP-link AP was one half the cost and does nearly double the 5ghz speed both up and down, and doubles the 2.4ghz up speed. I wouldnt waste your money on this if you dont already have an entire ubiquiti network setup. If you need decent speed, a better AP can be had at much better prices.

When A company would rather you refer to chat forms and other customers to solve your problem, its a real good indication they want nothing to do with supporting the customer after the sale. It had great signal but not at all user friendly and NO support to fix your problems

Installed this at a 3000 sq ft. medical office and it lights the entire place up with dual band wifi. Great coverage. The initial setup can be a bit complicated at first as its setup using a software controller rather than connecting a laptop and configuring directly.

Install and forget. It just works. One login/pass for all the place. Low maintenance. No need to keep up with updates. Excellent engeneering. I installed this in 2 houses.

A slight learning curve and make sure you have a good wired router to go with it. I went with an ERX and have been very happy so far. The dome itself is more compact than I expected and was easy to mount. The whole set-up process is more involved than a normal wifi router but if you have basic computer skills youll be able to manage. the management tools it gives you far surpass any consumer router.

I do Internet Protocol analysis and testing for a large networking vendor. I read RFCs and do the IETF dance. I touch a lot, ... a *lot* of gear, as Im on the team that tests the products for protocol compliance. Mostly at home I want a simple experience, something I can setup and abandon. I can see how for someone with no networking knowledge, implementing this could be a chore. The idea of needing a controller to program it seems weird, but ... it doesnt seem weird when you need to control thousands of these. Granted I have just one, most people at home will have just one, but its clearly designed for much bigger networks. The first thing which is a huge tremendous deal is how easy it is to get the controller going. I ran some software, no license keys, trial periods, etc, and it just discovered the AP. I put in my password for the SSID ... I was basically finished. This AP is sensitive. It sees networks I didnt know existed. I was using a WRT1200AC before and ... this thing is lightyears faster. Ive never seen a download over 100Mbps on a wireless connection but ... this thing easily pushes 150Mbps to my VR setup. My Alexa devices used to experience occasional burps, my smart thermostat, my streaming devices. I havent seen a burp yet and its been weeks. At another company I used to deploy these, I had a bad experience pulling a dead unit (it melted) from a ceiling, but this time around I was seriously considering going with Google Wifi until I read it does NAT. Seriously Google? I figured for $80, why not? Would recommend without reservations, this thing is amazing.
