Purchased this as an alternative to a very bulky 1TB backup drive for my Macbook Pro. As a photographer, photos and videos amass on my computer at an alarming speed. And because of the high quality nature of the files, I know its time to do a clean out when my whole system starts to slow down. The problem was, having to set up an external drive with an independent power source was just annoying. This little gem has twice the storage and is about a quarter of the size of my other drive. I keep it within reach of my bed, where I do 99% of my editing. Whenever I need to dump files, or pull files, my passport drive is so convenient and FAST. RAW files and high definition video files have no problems jumping ship from my mac to the passport in a very timely fashion. Ultra Portable really does mean ultra portable for this little black book. If I know Ill be shooting a lot of footage that Ill need to dump later, or I may need to retrieve old photos for editing, chucking my passport into my backpack or camera case is so convenient. Also, not having to find yet another plug to power it with while my phone, computer, and spare camera battery are charging is a relief. I dont have to worry about knocking it over, sucking up dust, or tripping over wires. Awesome little product. No cons! Buy it!

Terrible product and terrible tech support from Western Digital. I continue to get an error message that all my files have failed to back up. I called Western Digital about this and she told me to close all programs. That did not solve the problem. I still get the error messages and I get very sarcastic help from Western Digital. When i try to remove the hard drive I get a message that the program is still running or an error message that I cant connect sometimes both. I would really like to return the product but it has files that have backed up and so I cant really return it unless I take it to my IT people at a cost to wipe it. I am very unhappy with this. I have used 2 other companies back up drives but told WD was the best, not for me. My other two hard drives were never a problem. Also I use a remote back up and that stopped backing up files when the WD is connected, I never had the problem before with other hard drive. I assume its the software not the actual drive.Yesterday I spoke with their tech dept yet again and they gave me directions for wiping the hard drive. It said it would take 139 hours which I think is a bit long to put 0s on a hard drive to wipe out data. During the night there was an error message that I discovered when I awoke this morning so I clicked on continue. It continues to run at a snails pace, I called again and was told the hard drive had many bad sectors. This is hardly Amazons fault. WD is supposed to have excellent external back ups so something needs to be fixed in their quality control dept. The Passport hard drive is on its way back to Amazon.

This is by far the smallest external drive Ive ever owned. Its roughly 4 x 5 x 0.5 inches and easily slips into a carry on bag or laptop bag. The USB 3.0 cable looks very different from the USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 cables Ive used on other drives and needs to be stored with the drive -- which means it wont fit some of the cases advertised for it like the Lacdo case I bought for it. If you are going to get a special case, get one that is a full 6 inches long by 5 inches wide and 2 deep so you have space for the cable too. I love the magenta colour; definitely catches your eye so you are less likely to lose it or forget it when packing. I bought this for overseas travel and I expect great things from it. Do be aware that file transfer speed depends on the source you are downloading this to/from. Overall I am very happy and would consider getting more if the price and colours are right.

I helped a friend set up a new computer and again when she acquired a malware infection. She had one of these little Passport drives. I liked it so much, got one of my own. White version, 1TB. Ive been using it about 8 months now, still love it. For me, it has a whole bunch of pluses: Western Digital has always been my choice for external backup hard drives. Good rep. 1TB is more than I need to backup my tons of photos, recipes, email, tax returns, and other important records on my laptop PC. The small physical size is a HUGE plus. It has 4 very tiny rubbery feet which help it stay put. Uses only ONE cord - USB. It does NOT require an electric outlet. Yaaaa. I used to use one of the standard large external drives, also WD, but it took up too much precious space, got knocked over a lot, and required an electric outlet, which are in short supply in my computer area. (Landline phone, modem, router, tv, printer, smartphone charger, charging laptop etc.) I plugged it into a USB port and let it sit on my 17 laptop - lower left corner. Thats it. Fits perfectly and so small it doesnt interfere with using the keyboard. This works for me because I dont have a desk. I move the laptop from the table next to my chair to my lap frequently. After all, it is a LAPtop, not a desktop or table top PC. <grin> My Passport moves with my laptop. I have a 17 monitor/keyboard area, so there is room for it. Not sure if it would fit in the same spot with a smaller laptop. If you use your laptop at a desk, or just plug in the Passport once a day to do backup, not a problem. I just prefer keeping it connected all the time. I prefer a mouse over the touch pad, but this is small enough that keeping it on the left side of my laptop does not cover the touch pad, should I need to use it. I use a third party software which checks for changes hourly and backs up any I made. So far, have not needed to use it for restore purposes, but sooner or later, hard drives fail. I have no doubt it will save the day when that happens. However, even external hard drives fail, so to be safe, I also have a cloud backup just in case. Cant be too careful.

I bought this 4 months ago as a back up drive because my iOmega drive is finally starting to fail after 5 years. This drive worked really well when I initially transferred about 150-200 gb of files to it the first day. After less than 10 uses, it can have trouble registering on any computer. When I plug it in, the drive whirrs and the light illuminates, but the computers simply dont see it. I end up unplugging and reinserting over and over until the computers are finally able to read it. Other days, it works fine and on the first try. And Im back on Amazon trying to find another drive that might be more reliable because its erratic functioning makes me worried that it will crash sooner than later. *UPDATE* After the first few weeks, it has been working much more consistently. Im still dont quite trust this drive after our rocky beginning, but its performance has been much improved over the last few months.

By far best Price/Quality ratio on the market. A great, portable and secure HDD. After a few years of stupidity and not backing up, i finally decided to pick this up. Why did i like it? Its cheap and effective. One Terabyte of storage in my pocket is great for a price like this. Why did i dislike it? So far i havent I dont use it daily, and probably wont any time soon, due to the fact that im only planning on backing up data on it. But 400GB filled so far, and the thing has not slowed down at all. Similar products Storage online is probably first thing that comes to mind, but due to limitations of my data plans and real world locations where i can freely upload +20GB file batches without getting stopped by Hey youre using too much of our free data messages off puts me, and i would gladly store my stuff on my private storage, instead of going through open SECURE connections.

This compact, sturdy little external battery bank is perfect for those times when youre on the go and dont have reliable access to power outlets. It comes with its own carrying bag and includes a cable that does double duty re-charging the bank itself and charging your device. It takes about 3-1/2 hours to fully charge. Once you plug in your device, and turn the bank on, your device will start charging immediately. The adapter is small enough to store in the carrying bag along with the power bank and cable. I can carry it anywhere. This is indeed the best charger you could have for your gadgets. Its multiple compatibility feature comes very handy especially because I charge different devices with different brands, while being light and simple to figure out. You can also put it on your key ring and carry it that way. I really love the fact that it came with a carrying case. I received this product at a discounted price for my hones and unbiased review.

When I first got this drive, it was an absolute lifesaver. I was able to save all my important documents, photos, videos, etc. from the last 10 years in one place and thought all my storage worries were over. At the time, I had very recently lost an extremely close person in my life and all the photos, videos, etc. that I and her family had of her were on this device, including all things pertaining to her funeral. All my financial and tax documents were on this device. There were an abundance of legal documents pertaining to a law suit I had filed saved on this device. And I was able to store other client information/documents so I could have their files easily accessible in case anything came up while I was not at the office, considering I am on call quite often. Before and after purchasing this particular device, I had done pretty extensive research to ensure I used it properly at all times and always followed all the recommendations and suggestions of Western Digital and others on WDs official forums. I even purchased a hard top, waterproof case to store the drive in, just for the added security because of the importance of the files on the drive. Literally not even an entire TWO MONTHS into owning this device, the problems began. One day I got to work and went to open an important financial document, but it said the file could not be found because it had either been moved or deleted. I knew for a fact that not one file had been moved or deleted, so I started trying to open files throughout different folders saved on the device. Everything but TWO files were unable to be accessed due to being moved or deleted. I was hopeful that maybe it was just a fluke, so I ejected the device and left it alone. Two days later, I tried using the device again, but this time my computer would not even recognize the device at all, no matter which way I tried to search for it. The light indicating it is on and plugged in was on and you could hear the device running, but the computer could not find it. I rapidly started searching through all of WDs official forums and at their suggestions, I tried using multiple different cables to connect the device and each time it was still unrecognizable. Ive also tried it on over 10 different computers and laptops and it is always unable to be found, yet the light still indicates it is on and you can hear it running each time. Im still within my warranty period, but I am absolutely livid that so many sentimental and highly important/confidential files have been lost. I purchased this drive to prevent losing these files because of their importance, and the EXACT thing I was looking to avoid, happened. When I purchased this drive, there were countless positive reviews and people raved about this drive. Now that some time has passed and Ive lost these files, Ive since gone through the reviews again to find there are now many people changing their reviews, claiming to have experienced the same thing. There are even threads on other websites saying theyve experienced the same issues and have expressed their disgust with the way Western Digital has handled the issues. I hope this review can save at least one person from having to deal with the same issues the majority of us buyers have experienced. I absolutely do not recommend this product and will probably never recommend another Western Digital product to anyone; not only because of the product failure, but mainly due to the way Western Digital handles their failures and and show that they simply do not care about their customers.

Being somewhat a luddite, I had to hack my way through this to include latest utilities and backup program from Western Digital and install them. Then I reformatted the drive to a simple volume to insure it would work on my Windows 7 machine. Maybe unnecessary but I wanted to play with it some having never used one before. I also added a fuschia grip and Lacdo Waterproof Hard EVA Shockproof case. I do hope not to test the waterproofness or the shock sensitivity. The manual does caution about moving it about while in use The utilities and backup program are without frills and pretty straightforward so its hard to screw it up. It even has blinky lights so you can tell when its doing something. Im using this as backup for two small 128 Gb solid state drives so there is plenty of room on it. I did manage to do a drive backup and system image for both computers so I am somewhat relieved at getting that done. I had lost everything when my old XP machine died a horrible thrashing death with no backup. Lesson learned and I invested in this thingy which Im well pleased with so far. Its added peace of mind. So if youre somewhat challenged computer wise yet feel confident enough to learn, I recommend this highly. Its easy to set up and use and something that everyone should do... backup your stuff and rest easier.

Got this just in time after my Windows 10 installation. If I did not know Windows 10 can raise hell with your computers USB 3.0 slots, I would have thought I received a defective product. Anyways, once I fixed my USB 3.0 issues, I found this hard drive works excellent!!! I use this drive to load up Movies and TV shows, and plug this in to my Smart TVs USB port. Large files transfer easily and quickly, and it works perfect. Just keep in mind, if this is how you intend to use this product, dont use the included encryption software. Your TV wont be able to play whats on it if you do. I may be lucky, but in all my years of being a computer geek, I have never had a Western Digital hard drive of any type fail on me. I trust this product, and I am sticking with it.
