03-06-2025Im updating the rating on this from one to three stars after some kind members offered me help on getting it to work with my Mac Still not an easy task but it is possible and even easy if you havent yet stored a lot on the drive. However if you have a lot of data from a Windows pic on the drive its still quite a process to get that to you Mac not simply a plug and use. Ok heres is the problem with this admitted stellar value USB drive NOWHERE DOES IT TELL YOU IT WILL NOT WORK WITH A MAC. Shame on you Western Digital. Shame Shame Shame. I understand there was a time in history that it was considered acceptable for a company to ignore Apple products and pretend they no longer existed and that is (NO) was accepted because for a while they didnt really exist. However that was what ten years ago at least! I bought this drive to back up some very valuable files of my deceased partner, memories, photos, documents that I cherished and wanted to preserve, which i could as long as i didnt buy a new Mac computer. After I bought a Mac i discovered that yes I could use this drive after I reformatted the drive, erasing all my beloved memories and starting from scratch. Tech support was atrocious and the only positive info they gave me was that i couldnt use the drive without erasing everything on it. So bottom line....If your sticking to Windows for life and want to save your lifes work then buy this drive. If you decide to migrate to a Mac, throw your life on this drive away and start from day one in your new Mac world. When will companies learn that we just all want to get along?

Greater than one weekAs a giant nerd, hard drives of all shapes and sizes and capacities are very important to me. Ive used many drives in the past and all of my Western Digitals seem to last longer than competitors and outperform all expectations. More specifically to this drive. Going on the road for three months I needed a drive that I could trust for all of my sensitive data, as well as various movies and entertainment. The Western Digital Passport was perfect for this. Not only did it have the capacity to store my >TB movie/TV Collection, It also had the resilience to survive a literal cross country trip. This drive bounced around in my bag on buses, airplanes, cars and sometimes just in my back pocket for a solid three months and is still alive and perfectly functional to tell the tale today. The USB 3.0 speeds are pretty awesome as well! The size is perfect. Capacity is great. As always, another great product from WD!

> 3 dayWorks good so far. My reason for -1 star is I really wish this came with a small push button to turn it on/off (cut usb). This would save on having to yank a usb cable all the time and putting it back in if you dont want the drive always running or on. The drive itself seems fine, I think, I hope. However the cable they provided is flakey as all heck. The standard end (the one that plugs into your computer) is extremely touchy. If the cord or the plug housing itself is bumped... the drive acts like it was ejected. This is pretty annoying with a laptop given the close proximity to the keyboard this plugs into. Its not the computer port, because I tried it in all three ports! And since the cable for this WD Passport is not-standard, I cannot just use any other cable I have that I know fits snug and proper. * Updated * I talked with WD support, and they were gracious to send me a new cable free of charge to fix the issue. And it worked out, and works great now, without jiggle-risk. WD has always had great customer support.

> 3 dayI bought this some time in high school, probably sophomore year so around 8 years ago and this is still going strong. I took a lot of pictures and videos in high school and this was really good to store them on. I could keep it in my backpack or my jeans pockets size-wise. After 7 years with it, I had used it all I needed. My friends game with each other a lot and one needed more storage for his console so I gave him this and he said its made things so much quicker! He also says its never noticeable taking it with him because its so light and compact.

> 3 dayIt like it well enough for my PC. Plenty of space for the amount of stuff I have. The only problem is, I didnt buy it for myself, I bought it for my husband when he got a new computer after his old one died, but it doesnt seem to be compatible with his MacBook Air. We tried reformatting it several times but still could not get it to work for him. We finally gave up and he bought himself a different one that specifically stated it was for Macs to make sure we wouldnt have issues. If Id known it wouldnt work for his computer then I wouldnt have bought it.

Greater than one weekWorks as advertised and expected. Perfect for what I need to store and backup all my movies, music, documents, pictures.... Love how compact it is...it can easily fit in my pocket and weighs only 0.4 LBS. It comes with 18 USB 2.0/3.0 compatible data cable and works flawlessly right out of box, no driver, no software, no special setup required to run. This hard drive is USB powered from your PC or devices connected to so there is no AC cord/adapter required. Also I like its 3 year warranty, much longer warranty than 1 year warranty I typically get for other similar products. It works great with all of my devices I did tested with...Xbox, Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows XP, Macbook. It wont work on smart phones nor tablets. This is not a solid state drive (SSD) if you are looking for one. It also comes with the software to password protect and auto backup your files on this external hard drive. There is a protective case you can buy to protect this device but it is not included with the purchase.

06-06-2025So far so good! I got up to a max speed of 108mb/s transferring from a Seagate 6tb to this little drive. My other barracuda Sata 7200rpm drives gave me about 30mb/s, same for USB2.0 WD-MyBooks; while transferring large videos to this drive. Been hooking this device up to my mx2-gbox & using Kodi to view all the files, music & videos on the passport, Videos played in Kodi have been playing smoothly and seeking doesnt cause any hiccups; it gets power from the mx2 usb port, which is great, this way i dont need to leave my PC on all night to stream from. This has to be saving me tons of money in electric, with the PC off all night. Ive only had this little gem for about a week but, Im feeling good about it. I bought a nifty little case for it that protects it very well, Id recommend it.

> 3 dayThis is a fantastic little external hard drive - literally plug and play. It is very small, not much bigger than a deck of cards and it does not need an external power source - just plug it in and you are good to go. I have bought many Western Digital external hard drives throughout the years and I have always been pleased with them. They all work great and never fail - at least none of mine have ever failed. This one is the smallest permutation yet and it is every bit as functional as any of the others I have ever purchased. I am amazed that such a small unit could function so well and have so much capacity. The choices of external hard drives are many and selecting one can be overwhelming. I recommend going with Western Digital. They are solid products and work perfectly for years on end. I have yet to have the first one fail on me. I cannot say the same thing for other brands but I wont mention those names. Stick with Western Digital - you cant go astray in that regard. For the record, Iomega was also very reliable but they no longer manufacture these items.

> 3 dayWorks great! I backed up my laptop to it when I had to send it in for repair. Good thing too, because they put in a new motherboard so I would have lost everything. I found it competitively priced and easy to carry and store. Unfortunately I did not find the instructions very user friendly although I am fairly tech savvy. So, I googled for more information and found some helpful instructions that got my backup going in no time. I deducted one star for this problem. Overall I would recommend it for the tech enlightened or those with tech savvy friends or relatives.
