> 3 dayOverall it is good product. Failed after over 2 yrs (almost 3 yrs). During these years, I have to let windows repair it and re-format 3 time to re-use it. At the end, I download hard drive tools form wd site to test. The tool said it good, passed but can not performed the extended test. Bad tools.

> 3 dayI wanted to replace my old external drive with this smaller one and to take advantage of 3.0 speed. Ive had good luck with WD drives in the past so the brand combined with the price and product reviews made this one my choice. Its a great deal for a lot of external storage. Its completely quiet, has a sleek modern look, and comes pre-formatted as NTFS. The only thing that may prove to be of concern is that there is no vents in the case to dissipate heat so I dont know is overheating may be an issue down the road. During my first full backup to the drive I did not detect that the plastic case was getting over-warm. I am optimistic that heat wont be an issue by reading the other reviews. I am very happy with my purchase so far.

> 3 dayWe were required to buy this for school and I am glad that we did! I have a lot of videos and stuff on my laptop because I study film and video production. It is soooooo annoying running out of space all the time on my macbook. Now I just edit off of my hard drive and my life has become a lot less stressful. Also it convienent carry this small guy to class to work off of those computer versus carrying my macbook everywhere with me. I have yet to run out of space so this is just perfect for me. The only complaint that I have is that I had to format mine before it would work on my macbook pro. There are instructions online if anyone else is having this problem. It youre reading this the first thing i recommend you do when you get this product is make sure that it is compatible and will work with all the computers you plan on using. That way you wont put material on here only to later on find out you will have to format it. (Erasing all of your content). This happened to me.. I had content added from our Macs at school and later came home to try and edit on my Macbook and it wouldnt work. So my things got erased. No worries I had my content backed up else where. Just a forewarning though. Also make sure you have your things are backed up.

> 3 dayI had purchased the 1TB unit and needed more for video and music production storage. These little drives are great. They are not as fast as an internal hard drive,( a couple of seconds slower) probably due to the fact that they are USB, but they do their job. I can also hook it up to a laptop for portability. At this point I really think this is a good buy and a convenient way to store my producing. I also have an internal backup drive on my PC and between all of these drives and the cloud I feel confident that all will be well.

> 3 dayThis is generally a good hard drive. Its fast and operates just like a hard drive should. Unfortunately, it failed after only 3 years of having it. The spindle motor had broken on the inside and it would not function. Which is pretty unfortunate, to say the least, because Ive had the hard drive in my laptop and my desktop for significantly longer and both of those drives still work. I had only bought the 2 year data recovery plan too, so I had to pay $1.2k to get all of my data off the hard drive. This is a good drive to get as long as you back up all your stuff on a different drive as well, or on cloud storage or something. Dont expect it to last more than 3 years. If it does, then thats great. I would invest the extra cash into a Solid State Drive, but if you need a cheap option for storage, this drive is just fine

> 3 dayIm updating the rating on this from one to three stars after some kind members offered me help on getting it to work with my Mac Still not an easy task but it is possible and even easy if you havent yet stored a lot on the drive. However if you have a lot of data from a Windows pic on the drive its still quite a process to get that to you Mac not simply a plug and use. Ok heres is the problem with this admitted stellar value USB drive NOWHERE DOES IT TELL YOU IT WILL NOT WORK WITH A MAC. Shame on you Western Digital. Shame Shame Shame. I understand there was a time in history that it was considered acceptable for a company to ignore Apple products and pretend they no longer existed and that is (NO) was accepted because for a while they didnt really exist. However that was what ten years ago at least! I bought this drive to back up some very valuable files of my deceased partner, memories, photos, documents that I cherished and wanted to preserve, which i could as long as i didnt buy a new Mac computer. After I bought a Mac i discovered that yes I could use this drive after I reformatted the drive, erasing all my beloved memories and starting from scratch. Tech support was atrocious and the only positive info they gave me was that i couldnt use the drive without erasing everything on it. So bottom line....If your sticking to Windows for life and want to save your lifes work then buy this drive. If you decide to migrate to a Mac, throw your life on this drive away and start from day one in your new Mac world. When will companies learn that we just all want to get along?

Greater than one weekI am not a super picky tech pro but i have had this device for several years and still works just fine so that counts as great in my book. Disk drives are either 5 stars from me if they last for a long time or 1 star if they break and loose my data, is very clear cut for me, one or the other because i simply need them to store my data safely and dont care about nitpicking other techie details about performance. Ive been using it everyday just plugged as an extra storage space for my desktop so i havent been traveling with it, have never dropped it or hit it, it always sits on the same safe spot but i download and open stuff from it every day so ive used it constantly for quite a long time now and it still working dandy so i would not ask for more.

> 3 dayI bought this some time in high school, probably sophomore year so around 8 years ago and this is still going strong. I took a lot of pictures and videos in high school and this was really good to store them on. I could keep it in my backpack or my jeans pockets size-wise. After 7 years with it, I had used it all I needed. My friends game with each other a lot and one needed more storage for his console so I gave him this and he said its made things so much quicker! He also says its never noticeable taking it with him because its so light and compact.

Greater than one weekGot this just in time after my Windows 10 installation. If I did not know Windows 10 can raise hell with your computers USB 3.0 slots, I would have thought I received a defective product. Anyways, once I fixed my USB 3.0 issues, I found this hard drive works excellent!!! I use this drive to load up Movies and TV shows, and plug this in to my Smart TVs USB port. Large files transfer easily and quickly, and it works perfect. Just keep in mind, if this is how you intend to use this product, dont use the included encryption software. Your TV wont be able to play whats on it if you do. I may be lucky, but in all my years of being a computer geek, I have never had a Western Digital hard drive of any type fail on me. I trust this product, and I am sticking with it.
