> 3 dayBy far best Price/Quality ratio on the market. A great, portable and secure HDD. After a few years of stupidity and not backing up, i finally decided to pick this up. Why did i like it? Its cheap and effective. One Terabyte of storage in my pocket is great for a price like this. Why did i dislike it? So far i havent I dont use it daily, and probably wont any time soon, due to the fact that im only planning on backing up data on it. But 400GB filled so far, and the thing has not slowed down at all. Similar products Storage online is probably first thing that comes to mind, but due to limitations of my data plans and real world locations where i can freely upload +20GB file batches without getting stopped by Hey youre using too much of our free data messages off puts me, and i would gladly store my stuff on my private storage, instead of going through open SECURE connections.

> 3 dayUsing this as a photo drive for my old MacBook Pro. The drive itself has worked reliably and it is exactly what I was looking for. I did have some issues using the WD software that came with the drive. When using the software the drive often wouldnt stay mounted. It would either disconnected after about a minute or refuse to be recognized. Removing the software seems to have solved the problem. I did not investigate further because I decided to just use the drive without the WD tools installed, which is what I normally do anyway.

> 3 dayThere is no reason to not be backing up your data, and there is no reason to not be using the WD My Passport Ultra to do so. Not only is it incredibly simple to use, but it is slick and beautiful as well (especially the new white model). No matter what size you need, they have you covered and have kept the prices as affordable as you will see for such a fantastic item. My favorite feature(s) have to be the data encryption, and the fact that it is so easily portable. Both of those are selling points to me, and they nailed them. My experience: Packaged well and without excess wasted materials. I had to set it up differently to work on my MacBook Pro, than someone with a PC, but it was painless and I was up and running in 10 minutes or less. The drive has worked flawlessly and has brought peace of mind back once again after not having a functioning external hard drive for far too long. Looks great, works perfectly, keeps your data secure, and is easily portable. 5/5 Stars and highly recommended!

> 3 dayAs a giant nerd, hard drives of all shapes and sizes and capacities are very important to me. Ive used many drives in the past and all of my Western Digitals seem to last longer than competitors and outperform all expectations. More specifically to this drive. Going on the road for three months I needed a drive that I could trust for all of my sensitive data, as well as various movies and entertainment. The Western Digital Passport was perfect for this. Not only did it have the capacity to store my >TB movie/TV Collection, It also had the resilience to survive a literal cross country trip. This drive bounced around in my bag on buses, airplanes, cars and sometimes just in my back pocket for a solid three months and is still alive and perfectly functional to tell the tale today. The USB 3.0 speeds are pretty awesome as well! The size is perfect. Capacity is great. As always, another great product from WD!

Greater than one weekThis is my 5th WD Passport drive and my second WD USB 3.0 drive. There is hardly any difference between the 2015 version and the 2014 version drive - except for a few mm shaved off the external dimensions and a little faster read/write speed (updated firmware). I use my Passport drives to backup my data/documents. I backed up my 1 TB video archive at transfer speeds as high as 120 mb/s. Read speeds were also in the same range - 125-130 mb/s. This was extremely easy to use. I just plugged it in and followed the instructions in the User Manuals folder (ENG for English). After a quick download, I was able to set my back-up preferences (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) and then click and drag my files into the Passport. Although my iTunes are saved in the Cloud, I was even able to fit my extensive music collection on the Passport too. Excelente!

> 3 dayI bought this to archive and backup my laptop as I travel, and to store store videos ripped from my DVDs. Ive been on the road for 8 months, and its working fine. Use it almost every day to watch videos. While Im not equipped to do any real speed testing, I have seen transfer rates of better than 80MB/sec. Ill buy another one. My video collection keeps growing. Update, July 2017: Just returned from extensive travel. Carried this drive all over Europe. Still works fine. Did have a cable failure. Drive will not work at all on USB 3.0 port, but will work on USB 2.0 on an older computer (at the lower USB 2 speeds). Swapped cables and the drive works fine on USB 3.0, so its only a cable fault. Still, disappointing reliability on the cable (but not the drive itself).

> 3 dayEvery tech needs one of these. You dont need to use the software included which is a plus for vme as I like to chose. Excellent transfer rates with 3.0 usb. If your motherboard puts out low voltage as my Asus 79 Delux on the 2.0 but the 3.0s work fine on most. use the drivers on the WD site to get it to work. Works on 90% of all pcs without drivers. No AC needed one cord although proprietary. I recommend the accessory rubber case (WD Grip Pack) available on Amazon in multiple colors that comes with a extra cord also. It protect it and you get he extra cord. Pros Size 3.0 Transfer speed Cons proprietary cables.

> 3 dayThis is a fantastic little external hard drive - literally plug and play. It is very small, not much bigger than a deck of cards and it does not need an external power source - just plug it in and you are good to go. I have bought many Western Digital external hard drives throughout the years and I have always been pleased with them. They all work great and never fail - at least none of mine have ever failed. This one is the smallest permutation yet and it is every bit as functional as any of the others I have ever purchased. I am amazed that such a small unit could function so well and have so much capacity. The choices of external hard drives are many and selecting one can be overwhelming. I recommend going with Western Digital. They are solid products and work perfectly for years on end. I have yet to have the first one fail on me. I cannot say the same thing for other brands but I wont mention those names. Stick with Western Digital - you cant go astray in that regard. For the record, Iomega was also very reliable but they no longer manufacture these items.

> 3 daySo far so good! I got up to a max speed of 108mb/s transferring from a Seagate 6tb to this little drive. My other barracuda Sata 7200rpm drives gave me about 30mb/s, same for USB2.0 WD-MyBooks; while transferring large videos to this drive. Been hooking this device up to my mx2-gbox & using Kodi to view all the files, music & videos on the passport, Videos played in Kodi have been playing smoothly and seeking doesnt cause any hiccups; it gets power from the mx2 usb port, which is great, this way i dont need to leave my PC on all night to stream from. This has to be saving me tons of money in electric, with the PC off all night. Ive only had this little gem for about a week but, Im feeling good about it. I bought a nifty little case for it that protects it very well, Id recommend it.

18-11-2024I use this drive to backup my laptop computer. I like the fact that it doesnt require a separate power cord, like some other external hard drives. I like the small form factor of this drive too. It is a similar size as a laptop computer hard drive. Also it supports USB 3.0 data transfer speeds, which is also nice, as USB 3.0 is more than ten times faster than USB 2.0. Of course USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, so it will work with any computers USB port, although its performance will be limited to the speed of the USB port that it is plugged into. Although it comes with software to encrypt the drive, I havent used it, so I cant vouch for the quality of that software. I encrypt my own files anyway, using other software. Some people use utilities like truecrypt, some people use password protected RAR files. Do whatever works best for you, if you want to encrypt something. As for the cloud storage software it comes with, that basically requires you to set up a drop box account, because that is what it really uses to store your date in the cloud. Thats kind of useless, you could just use drop box anyway, without needing to use this Western Digital software as a front end for it. Maybe it is useful for some people, but I dont find any use in doing things that way. So aside from my neutral comments about the software that this drive comes with, which I find to completely be unnecessary, I am just rating the hardware its self as 5 stars.
