> 3 dayIn early February 2016 I purchased the WD 2TB Black My Passport Ultra Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBBKD0020BBK-NESN [Old Model]. I was very inexperienced with External Hard Drives, as well as the WD brand and programming. Fortunately, both Hard Drive and WD programming are extremely user friendly. Step by Step instructions, Security features including Password Protection (protects Hard Drive from being accessed entirely, unless the correct password is entered.), Ultra lightweight!!!, and super quiet (so extremely quiet, on some occasions I wasnt sure the device was even running, It was every time!)... EXTREMELY, WHOLEHEARTEDLY, and OVERLY SATISFIED WITH THIS PURCHASE/PRODUCT and well as with WD (Western Digital) its self!!! Well done Western Digital company lol.... My one and only issue, which by no means is faulted by WD, would be I no longer have the Portable Hard Drive. About 2 months ago, my house was broken into and burglarized, the thief or thieves took every single piece of technology they could find, including this Portable Hard Drive (although, they did NOT think to take its unique cord along too).... as well Im hoping whom every has it now isnt able to break through the security programming and has a useless component! .... ... I have emailed amazon to see if there is anything they could help or inform me of, ANYTHING could help; as well as contacted WD through their website, hoping there is some bit of information they could enlighten, maybe even brighten my outlook.... I am a very highly satisfied customer of WD and Amazon, and currently researching my next WD Portable Hard Drive with full intentions of purchasing another WD brand product, when the time is right that is.....

> 3 dayThis is generally a good hard drive. Its fast and operates just like a hard drive should. Unfortunately, it failed after only 3 years of having it. The spindle motor had broken on the inside and it would not function. Which is pretty unfortunate, to say the least, because Ive had the hard drive in my laptop and my desktop for significantly longer and both of those drives still work. I had only bought the 2 year data recovery plan too, so I had to pay $1.2k to get all of my data off the hard drive. This is a good drive to get as long as you back up all your stuff on a different drive as well, or on cloud storage or something. Dont expect it to last more than 3 years. If it does, then thats great. I would invest the extra cash into a Solid State Drive, but if you need a cheap option for storage, this drive is just fine

Greater than one weekI am not a super picky tech pro but i have had this device for several years and still works just fine so that counts as great in my book. Disk drives are either 5 stars from me if they last for a long time or 1 star if they break and loose my data, is very clear cut for me, one or the other because i simply need them to store my data safely and dont care about nitpicking other techie details about performance. Ive been using it everyday just plugged as an extra storage space for my desktop so i havent been traveling with it, have never dropped it or hit it, it always sits on the same safe spot but i download and open stuff from it every day so ive used it constantly for quite a long time now and it still working dandy so i would not ask for more.

> 3 dayI wanted to replace my old external drive with this smaller one and to take advantage of 3.0 speed. Ive had good luck with WD drives in the past so the brand combined with the price and product reviews made this one my choice. Its a great deal for a lot of external storage. Its completely quiet, has a sleek modern look, and comes pre-formatted as NTFS. The only thing that may prove to be of concern is that there is no vents in the case to dissipate heat so I dont know is overheating may be an issue down the road. During my first full backup to the drive I did not detect that the plastic case was getting over-warm. I am optimistic that heat wont be an issue by reading the other reviews. I am very happy with my purchase so far.

Greater than one weekThis is my 5th WD Passport drive and my second WD USB 3.0 drive. There is hardly any difference between the 2015 version and the 2014 version drive - except for a few mm shaved off the external dimensions and a little faster read/write speed (updated firmware). I use my Passport drives to backup my data/documents. I backed up my 1 TB video archive at transfer speeds as high as 120 mb/s. Read speeds were also in the same range - 125-130 mb/s. This was extremely easy to use. I just plugged it in and followed the instructions in the User Manuals folder (ENG for English). After a quick download, I was able to set my back-up preferences (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) and then click and drag my files into the Passport. Although my iTunes are saved in the Cloud, I was even able to fit my extensive music collection on the Passport too. Excelente!

> 3 dayTypical Western Digital quality, works great. Its been a while since I bought one and dont know if theyre all like this, but I finally realized it will only work using the USB 3.0 cord it comes with. I originally just tossed the wider USB 3.0 cord it came with in my camera bag and tried to use it on my Windows 10 desktop using a standard USB cable. The light on the unit just blinked and my computer didnt see it. I figured it was a Win10 compatibility issue and tried it on my Win7 netbook, again no-go. Was about to send it back until I realized the cord it came with was wider. It works fine with the right cord. I just assumed it would be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 but I guess not. Not an issue, Ill just keep the cord with it.

> 3 dayThis is a very easy to use portable back up. Its one terabyte size stores your important cant loose data. I was able to copy large files off my Windows 8.1 laptop in a very short time. I didnt read the instructions (men dont do that) and was amazed at the ease that it worked. I also transferred data from my wifes Windows 10 with no issues. This appears well made and solid so taking it to work in a briefcase wouldnt be an issue. The files I set up are easy to access quickly from this device and very easy to add on a weekly basis. This is the best back up I have, and Western Digital is well know for quality.

Greater than one weekPros: Works with USB 2.0 and 3.0, which is what you would expect. But its hard to find that info here. So there you have it. Come pre-partitioned for NTFS, with loads of government spyware for windows. I wiped it out and partitioned for Ext4 to use it for Linux. Works when directly connected to my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B without a hub (once I modified /boot/config.txt and added max_usb_current=1). Cons: The only thing I can think of to complain about is the activity LED seems like it should be on the opposite end of the drive as the cable, but it isnt. Its also illuminated when there is no activity, but blinks off and on when there is activity. Its also quite bright when you look right at it, though it doesnt seem to illuminate a dark room in an annoying way. The LED is white. WD My Passport 1 TB vs WD Elements 1TB I had a hard time choosing between this WD My Passport and the

Greater than one weekUPDATE: I called WD and they walked me through to get it working on my PC and my MAC. So far I like the product, but was a bit annoying that they called at different times than we agreed upon. It did not work on my PC with windows 10, nor did it let me reformat it to work on my mac. I followed all of their instructions online, and did a lot of research but nothing got it to work on either of my computers. I opened a case with Western Digital and they said they needed to call me to go over it. I told them when to call, but they ended up calling the day before while I was at work. I emailed back asking them to call me again another time, then never called even though they said they would. I have spent way too much time trying to get this product to work and it simply isnt worth it.

> 3 dayI always reformat these into Apple journaled format and I setup 2 partitions. One partition is just a little bigger than my system drive on my laptop.... on this laptop it was 256Gb SSD. That leaves another 1.7 Tb partition for external storage. These Passport Ultra Drives are super fast at USB 3 and work well with Apple laptops when completely erased and reformatted. Im sure they work fine as they come, which is HFS+. I dont like any of the software WD includes, its just my personal taste, and what I want the drive to do. I set up the Backup partition to be my TImeMachine drive, and then my laptop is always backing up to this drive. I like that, because if I disconnect the drive, the autobackup on Timemachine is set to only backup if the drive is connected. That way, if I dont want to lose CPU bandwidth because of hourly backups, and I dont want to have to remember to tell the backup drive to STOP backing up, I can just attach the drive when Im not active on any laptop, and leave the laptop plugged in. We have around 4 or 5 laptops setup like this at our house (Kids,Wife,Husband, etc ) - all work flawlessly.
