Ive been using this for a few months as a backup drive for my iMac. I have it velcrod to the back of my mac and I plug it in once a week or so, let TimeMachine do its thing and then eject and unplug. It spins up quick and I have no issues. Its amazingly small and doesnt make any noise - which is great with keeping down the clutter. Setup was very easy, I reformatted it, selecting the format type of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to clean up any things they may have pre-installed on it. Then opened up TimeMachine from the Settings app and selected it as the drive to backup to. Then you just need to give it a few hours for the first backup. Quick and easy.

Very easy set up, and works very well. Only reason Im not 5 stars is the drive seems slower than I expected. Quality and appearance is really good, but a bit faster would be nice. I use this drive every day, and Im typically using an SSD, so my view of speed may be a bit warped. Ive been using SSD for a long time so my expectations for speed on a portable drive may be somewhat unrealistic. I definitely recommend this drive.

first experience with WD - it seems to be working ok now though the key for a backup drive is how is it working years later? One issue, i keep getting a message that the backup file is corrupted and asking if it should be deleted. Cant seem to find a fix. I may just reformat the whole thing and backup manually - not as convenient but i can at least access the files directly without having to restore. Had a Seagate before - it died after about 3-4 years --- seems a short life for a drive which is only accessed every hour or so and then for only a few seconds. The one in my computer is 8-years old, is accessed all the time, and still works! I probably ought to dig into the box and see what brand it is.

I am using the 2TB version of this hard drive on my PS4 and it works perfectly. Installing the drive was as easy as plugging in the USB cable and letting the PS4 format the hard drive. I was worried that it would be noticeably slower than an internal drive but it seems to be roughly just as fast. A couple other benefits of this drive are its small size and that its powered by its USB cable. I am very satisfied with this product especially since I now have way more space than the standard 500GB my PS4 came with.

This is the third WD My Passport external hard drive Ive purchased over the last two years. I use them, along with both free and subscribed CrashPlan accounts, to back up the data on a variety of laptop and desktop PCs. The WD drives serve this purpose well; theyre incredibly easy to set up and use as either dedicated or multi-system drives, and -- like the internal WD drives Ive used over way more years than I care to admit to -- they run and run and run. Buy a good carrying case (I like the semi-hard cases; more room inside for the cable) and youre good to go for extended road trips with your laptop. WD also provides backup software with these drives, but I havent tried it.

I have the old Passport Ultra and this is the same pretty much except it is more boxy and a tiny bit bigger. I like the aesthetic and the performance is on par with other external hard drives. The reliability is worth the premium over the Seagate, definitely would purchase again.

This was my first purchase of an external hard drive. Bought it to back up a massive music and video collection from my cpu. Works better than I expected and now can download a ton more media. I’m no computer expert, but the other more technical reviews for this product (WD 2TB passport) were spot on.

The drive itself appears to be fine. But I bought this as a backup for my Windows OS 10 desktop, and the WB Backup software is unusable, and the docs are useless. I repeatedly got a There is not enough free space on the backup drive trying to back up when the Passport was brand new. And I only had 1TB to backup on this 2TB drive. When I googled the error message, I found this is a very common complaint. I tried the various fixes (reformat, repartition, reboot, reinstall, etc), but nothing worked. In the end I used the regular Windows backup utility, which worked fine. Obviously. Lesson learned (again) - dont trust software made by a hardware company. Id give this 0 stars for software, 5 stars (so far) for hardware, average is 2.5 stars, and Im rounding down for wasting my time.

This is the second WD 2 TB Black Passport Portable External Hard drive in the past 6 months. Initially, I thought there was a defect, but with assistance from an IT relative, it works fine now. I highly recommend it. I would purchase it again without hesitation!

Ive had it for about a month now and it is consistently reliable. I periodically do full system and fill backups to this hard drive and it has been speedy and reliable. I also do incremental backups every Sunday and have not had an issue with this hard drive. I dont recommend using the backup software that comes with this device, however. I personally use the free version of EaseUS Todo; it works perfectly with this device. Definitely recommend this hard drive for backing up your computer.

The My Passport Ultra is trusted, portable storage in a design that brilliantly pairs metal and matte finishes to create a sophisticated style. It has plenty of space to store all the content you love. Social media and cloud storage import, WD Backup software and password protection help keep all your memories safe and secure. Easy to use, just plug it in to start saving and backing up.
