17-04-2025Standard 2TB storage drive for a pretty good price. The WD software it comes with is totally optional; I reformatted the drive upon arrival. I havent used it for long enough for it to fail, but it seems that most HDDs by WD, Seagate, etc. are about the same in terms of reliability. The MyPassport is pretty slim, but not exactly pocket-sized (approx. 3.25 x 4.25 x 0.75 or 8 cm x 11 cm x 2 cm). Read/write speeds are average for a USB drive.

> 3 dayI am using the 2TB version of this hard drive on my PS4 and it works perfectly. Installing the drive was as easy as plugging in the USB cable and letting the PS4 format the hard drive. I was worried that it would be noticeably slower than an internal drive but it seems to be roughly just as fast. A couple other benefits of this drive are its small size and that its powered by its USB cable. I am very satisfied with this product especially since I now have way more space than the standard 500GB my PS4 came with.

> 3 dayI have to admit I was a bit skeptical about this one. Over the years, Ive continued to upgrade my trusty, old laptop, swapping out memory, converting from spinning platter to SSDs, etc., so when I thought about back-up storage due to the recent rash of ransomware attacks, my first instinct was to invest in a portable SSD, but theyre still a little steep in terms of price per gigabyte. Therefore, I looked (somewhat reluctantly) into spinning platters. Im glad I did. I got this WD Passport (2TB) for a very reasonable price. OK, there was one hurdle overcome, but what about PERFORMANCE? Well, Im glad you asked. Once I got the drivers loaded on to my laptop so that it could interface with the hard drive, I transferred 65GB of files in one transfer and it took only a few minutes. I double-checked once the transfer was done and everything seems to be intact. Now, you cant treat these as cavalierly as a thumb drive or a pocket SSD, but it seems reasonably well-built and I got a shock-proof carrying case as well. Im quite content now that I have an encrypted vault for my most important files.

> 3 dayI realize that this drive is not listed in the compatible drives that my router accepts. It also states that as long as drivers are not needed it should work. Which this does not. The router was bought last year. The hard drives the router takes are already obsolete. So 500 gb for 75 or 1TB for 75. Hm

> 3 dayI bought this hard drive for extra storage for my PlayStation 4. It works great I have no problems at all with it. The hard drive does it job. I have over 130 games that are digital downloads instead of a physical disk. So between my PS4 internal hard drive and this external one I have over 100 games download and the rest is on the cloud.

> 3 dayTerrible. It lasted only a couple of months without a problem. After putting 2-3 computer backups on it, I started having connectivity issues. The issues have gotten progressively worse in recent months. Now I receive error messages like, Not Accessible, Device not Ready, Destination Not Recognized to Exist, etc. So now I cant even transfer files to it. Also, most of the time now, it wont unmount from my computer. So I have to shut down my computer after each use in order to disconnect it safely. Ive used it on both Windows7 and Windows10. I own 3 different model WD drives. This one was a very big disappointment with how quickly it became inoperable. From examining other reviews, I saw that others have had similar issues. On the recommendation of one reviewer, I bought a WD Elements with a model year of 2015, just a few months after this one. (Amazon now has the WD Elements available with model year 2017). Anyway, the WD Elements works great. (A lot of the 1 star reviews are from MAC users, so read carefully.) And there isnt the WD Unlock extra step to go through either.

> 3 dayThis holds a lot of my photos. Im disappointed since the transfer rate is only about 15 MB per second. Larger video files go a lot quicker reaching 50 MB/sec.

13-04-2025I love WD products. I have a MacBook Pro and am a photographer and take tons of video. This is my life saver for keeping photos and videos safe. I got a 2tb because they have reviewed as lasting longer. Only time will tell but I have a 500gb that I got about 5 years ago that is still working. I dont keep mine plugged in. I put my photos and video on and then unplug and store in a case.

> 3 dayAfter searching and reviewing different external hard drives for a few weeks, I ended up purchasing this one from WD and I’m glad I did. It performs great with my MacBook Pro and the transferring speeds are very quick as well as the added storage capabilities.

> 3 dayThis is the second WD 2 TB Black Passport Portable External Hard drive in the past 6 months. Initially, I thought there was a defect, but with assistance from an IT relative, it works fine now. I highly recommend it. I would purchase it again without hesitation!
