Bought this for our sons 9th birthday and it was his favorite gift ever - he was so sad when the course was over! Excellent method of editing Minecraft java code that is very engaging, productive and educational. Codecademy et al. didnt connect with the simple coding results, this integration with making a mod kept him incredibly engaged. The videos are very well done and had him laughing out loud. EXCELLENT support response - very fast, very personal and very well tailored for kids. Hardest part now is waiting for Mod Design 2 !

Our seven-year-old son got this for Christmas. We bought it for him on a lark, thinking he might enjoy learning how to program, not really sure if he would be able to use it yet or if it was above his level. Well, he LOVED it!! This program is so well done, I cannot say it strongly enough. My husband and I are so impressed with this company and this program. The videos are entertaining, the instructor is engaging, and basically, our sons other gifts are laying under the Christmas tree, virtually untouched. I wont say that he hasnt gotten frustrated, because he has. This is challenging work to be sure, but help is available. When he was confused, my son sent an email to the support desk. Within 10 minutes, he had a friendly and helpful reply complete with pictures, instructions, and reassurances that Well get this worked out! Youth Digital is in a class by itself! I highly recommend for your budding computer programmer. (Our son loves it so much that we are planning to enroll him in their summer camp in 2015, even though it is over an hour away!)

Our 10 year old son LOVES this program. He is engaged and, beyond learning how to code, he is learning to problem-solve on his own. Customer service is absolutely amazing - response time is often less than an hour to resolve any confusion or errors that he encounters and is written so that he can solve the problem without much help from us. It is the best online program we have used. Highly recommend without reservations!

My son and I are racing through this course right now -- we bought it some time ago, but didnt install it until recently. We just found out their website is being discontinued 2019 Feb 28th. Since the course runs from the website, this means the courses will become inaccessible.

No effective support. Takes days to get a reply and the only way to contact support is by their chat system which is not live. No child will find this kind of help to be appealing. Mine certainly dont. I honestly believe their claim to provide helpful teachers is a vacuous claim.

Great presentation and organization of learning modules, and the kids laughed all the way through.

    1) The custom environment that the course installs for you is quite error prone. Eclipse will often fail to load and unless you really know what youre doing, you can loose your work and start over.

My sons been looking at this for a while now. Okay, its worth paying for making education fun but I find this too high. Many online courses for free. Nice this is offered on Amazon to give as a gift but you can buy this download many places online for $150. I was hoping to find a bigger discount for Christmas. For $50 Ill wrap a printout of the purchase in a box to put under the tree if I do decide to purchase it. I was hoping to find this boxed nice for a gift but the price is way too high on Amazon.

I bought this for my 8 year old grandson. He loves Minecraft and all things computer related. I thought this might help him learn to do something more useful than playing games. It is wonderful! My son and grandson work together on this and he is really learning to code using Java. It is not an easy program to use, but they have wonderul support available. I would recommend this for older children also, my 8 yo is probably the exception in his ability to master the concepts (no, that is not just proud grandma talk - this kid is AMAZING with computers and games). Overall, well worth the money and I plan to buy more of their products.

I only have good things to say about this company, they are creating fun interactive training courses for kids to learn by doing what they love, playing! I got my 11 year old son the Mod Design 1 course, and he is literally programming in Java to make his ideas come to life in Minecraft. I have watched a couple of the videos with him, and the trainer is a total goofball, but my son is laughing and learning, so dont let that turn you off; the goofy + serious training totally works... You might think it is expensive, but it is a true training class, and I think it is a good value for what you get out of it. Having been a programmer for almost 20 years, I can say that it is really good stuff, and critical concepts that kids are going to be required to know at some point. They have other courses too, such as fashion design, 3D Game Design, 3D Animation, App Design (you actually build and install an app on an iPhone or iPad!), and others. It would make a great Christmas present! ... ok, done with my product advertising... no I dont get paid for this, I just want them to make more of these!
