Once the black protective coating is scraped away, its an excellent spark stick. Im new to using one, so appreciate the fact its big enough to hold securely, unlike the key-chain size ferro rod that came with an emergency kit purchased earlier. This provides enough surface for my inexperienced self to create sparks reliably every time. Will 100% recommend.

Works as advertised. I used my new mora garberg spine and the sparks flew! Initial impression is awesome. Very happy with performance.

Any hard, sharp material (metallic or not) works. Broken Hack Saw blade works as well as anything else. Hold sparker steady and pull the rod over it to control spark direction. As reliable as a Zippo flint !
