> 3 dayI only write reviews when something really deserves positive or negative feedback. Have you ever noticed how some of the items we buy on Amazon always look better in the pictures and then when you receive the item not only is the quality inferior, or not what you expected, but the item always seems to be tiny as compared to what you see in the pictures. This item is not one of those instances. WOW! I am entirely impressed and satisfied with this purchase. The ferro rod is just as large as I expected and works like a dream! It is incredibly heavy duty. Now, Im not a backpacker, and Im guessing this is not something you would take backpacking, but for car camping, or overlanding, or just as a survival tool that you know is going to last, this is the tool to buy. You really do get what you pay for. The only thing I may change is the cord that comes on it. I get why they made it elastic, but it just seems easier to use when the striker is not attached to the cord. To be honest, while the metal striker does work, I may just end up using something else in my tool kit such as the back of a knife. Then I can swap out the cord for something shorter. It might have been nice to have a case included with this, but at the end of the day its not a deal breaker. Sometimes having an individual case for every single small item of gear that you have doesnt really make sense as you usually stow them away and another bag anyways. Dont hesitate to purchase this item. You wont be disappointed.

> 3 dayThis is a hiker, camper or survivalist piece of gear that is a must have. This real ferro rod throws a shower of sparks. I gave away my little ones to green horns. Let them struggle.

Greater than one weekIt broke in half when I accidentally dropped it on the floor while unpacking. So now I have 2 four inch fire starters which are not as easy to work with.

> 3 dayI love this fire starter! Its easy to hold and it is thick and solid. There is thousands of strikes, as its solid magnesium w/black coating. It throws very copious amounts of sparks whether you strike it with the bungee cord attached striker or the back of a blade. The attached striker has one rounded c shaped surface that fits the stick to shave magnesium into your tinder bundle. The striker has two flat surfaces that can be used instead of a knife back. I use the back of my Moro knife companion blade as it is a 90° blade intended for using with a fire starter. The striker also has a metric ruler on one side. Im extremely happy with the weight, sheer quality of this item and as a survivalist, its worth the extra few ounces of weight in my pack.
