It takes about 4 hours to charge. Based on other reviews, I timed how long the battery would last for the charge. Mine is consistent with others; it lasted 9 minutes and 30 seconds. I vacuumed half of my mid-size SUV, charged the vacuum, did the other half of my car the next day. Its not very productive to begin a chore and complete it the next day. It did a very nice job, though! I was able to get into some nooks that I didnt think was possible. I like the pivot feature, too. The interior of the car looks pretty darn good, and clean too! Using the vast capabilities of web searches, it is also a true statement that a replacement battery for this product cannot be located. This is good: the product guide has directions on how to safely remove the battery for disposal when it can no longer take a charge. This is awful, not environmentally friendly, and contrary to common sense: there is no replacement battery option at the time of this writing. I really like this product. It performs well for my needs. I hope B&D will have a battery option when mine decides to die.

Theres a prefilter that gets dirty and I cannot find how to remove. The manual is dreadful and has no answer. I filled out a long online expert advice questionnaire at the and of which I was told thanks, well send this to our expert if you send us $5. Ive been using and emptying vacs for perhaps 80 years and never before had to watch a video with ads on how to use them or spend $5 to find out. We have two of these and like them but if these go before I do, theyll be our last.

This hand vac is CRAZY STRONG! When I first opened the box and saw the vacuum I loved the look, loved the extremely light weight of it, loved the ability to adjust the position but I was very concerned about the size of vacuum spout that sucks up the dirt. Its smaller than most others. I have a shark hand vacuum and the suction size of this B&D is roughly 1/3 of the size. BUT........ It had a a bit of a charge so I gave it a try on a runner rug I have in my entryway...... I vacuum it every single day because we come and go and we also have a dog. So, its continually getting lots of dust and debris or what not. This hand vacuum is so strong and works so well that I had to find the right angle for the vacuum itself so it would not suck the runner rug up! I got about half of the runner done before the little bit of charge it had in it died and when I looked at what was in the vacuum dirt holder I was shocked! There was so much dirt, sand and dog hair that was vacuumed up that I couldnt believe my eyes! I took pictures. What you are seeing is less than half of my 5 ft X 2 ft runner rug that was vacuumed with the Black & Decker AND I had JUST vacuumed it with my Shark last night! I poured the dirt out onto a paper plate so you can really see what was in there however there is still a ton of dirt caked on the plastic of the interior. THIS HAND VAC IS POWERFUL. Im keeping it. My only complaint is the size of the suction because it takes a little longer when it covers less area but that is easy for me to overlook given the power if this vacuum. I highly doubt there is any other hand vacuum as strong as this one and I cant wait til its fully charged to go and finish the job on all of my runners as well as in my car!

Today is May 13, 2020. We got this vacuum on Jan 19th. Im not sure that Amazon will allow specific pricing in reviews. I went to order one to set to our daughter, and in that time the price went up ***40%***!!!! We didnt get any special prices and that was the every day rate... at least at the time. Is it worth what we paid for it then? Absolutely. Would we buy it at this price? Absolutely not. Our daughter will just have to use a broom and dust pan for awhile longer until the price comes back to the stratosphere. We received this hand vac yesterday and wanted to share my first impressions. When we received the B+D 20v vac it arrived in a non-descript box. On the outside was the ORMD (hazmat) lable, but no fancy box as one might expect. The HAZMAT warning is because of the Li Ion battery Im sure. Very basic packaging with basic instructions. The first impression was like a youd expect with a direct from China product. The operation was fairly intuitive, but a little confusing, but I figured things out reasonably quickly. I did have to refer to the manual. You have to push the button on the handle to open the nozzle and change angle. The crevice tool was easy to find, but I had to figure out how to push it back into the main nozzle. And yet when I actually used the crevice took, it collapsed at first on its own. The way the vac sits on the charging dock is unique. It sits kind of side-saddle. And while you can feel it click in to its position, it doesnt really self-glide. You have to make sure it seats, especially if you mount the charging dock. FWIW, the charger is a 24v charger, but light weight and hard wired into the dock. While the vac unit itself seems relatively sturdy, the charging dock feels like it could be the weak link to the system. If it ever dies your whole unit is dead in the water unless you can rewire a new transformer into the system. First use: It did a fairly good job of cleaning the crumbs on my kitchen floor. I found it very handy in many areas. The foldable nozzle is a nice design feature. My daughter has a 12v B+D vac, but honestly I dont think the 20v unit picks up any better than her 12v, sold for about $55. The one she has doesnt fold, so takes up more space when not in use. One of the features I really like (so far) on our unit is the door on the side of the unit to open for cleaning. Just flip open the door and turn the unit sideways in to the trash. I think that is one feature that separates it from the other choices where the unit has to come apart to dump the dirt collection. It takes only 5 or 10 seconds to open, dump and reclose. Its so easy that you wont hesitate to dump the dirt every time you use it, even for just a few seconds. What I wish it had: A removable battery and separate charger for batteries. One of the other candidates for consideration were one of two Ryobi 18v systems. The one Ryobi unit that came as tool only seemed bulky and the evercharge variation had a charger that seemed to want to be mounted on a wall. THE B+D can be mounted on a wall, but can also sit on a countertop. So while the lack of a separate battery was a con, being able to sit it on a counter or shelf (near an outlet) allows it to be moved to different areas for charging, not limited to mounting in one stationary location. The question not yet answered (for us) is; Will the unit hold up? Im told that B+D customer service is lacking and Amazon only guarantees the products for a limited time. I took a chance because I couldnt find a design that I liked better and any choice had its compromises. I will edit this review if circumstances change and/or I get more experience with this vacuum unit. Based on the above, it might be worth considering if it is in your price range for such a device.

Since this unit is one-hand held, weight and hand position when vacuuming are really important. Being able to move the nozzle makes it much easier to hold the unit at the best angle for comfort of use. You dont have to lift your arm or elbow at odd angles, so the weight of the vacuum isnt as difficult to manage.

I bought this item after reading the rave reviews and comparing it to a few other products. I bought this for work - to clean up drywall dust and other minor messes. I thought Id give it a test first cleaning up my jeep. Ill start by saying I hadnt vacuumed my jeep in about 4 months - so there was plenty of debris to be picked up from leaves, to hair, and other small particulates. Mission accomplished. My jeep (wrangler) and all its crevices are clean. The only negative - is that it took me a few hours to do it. Thats because I did the front seats and floorboard before the battery died. I recharged and then did the rear seats, floorboard and cargo area - and it died as I finished. In grand total, I got about 20-25 minutes between two full charges. Likely, you wont be trying to clean a whole car with this device, but if you do, be warmed of the relatively short run time. In the future, I guess I should be able to get the car clean on one charge as I never really let my car get 4 months dirty. In short, you likely wont be disappointed with this product, just be prepared for it not to last that long. Docked a 1/2 star for short battery life and a 1/2 star for a non-replacable battery.

I got it on Amazon day July 15, at 1 cent more expensive! Wasted my time that day. I still have two B&D NiCad in the garage I think. I gave up on them and others for a couple of years. They are good, perhaps too good. Replacement filters cost a fortune. And the power drops fast. I tried another one with a washable filter. You have to touch the accumulated dust to clean it. No matter how you wash it, its still black. Then you dry the filthy filter, reshape it a little, and put it back. Not a pleasant thing to do. Also, at the time, I waited at least for NiMH battery but they never arrived. When lithium came out they are so expensive. And the first bagless like the Dyson are so large! This is surprisingly small which is a good thing. The battery is heavy but not more than some other models, old and new. Not that you need much effort to vacuum. The older ones are full of dead spaces that are difficult to clean thoroughly. The pivoted tube is more convenient than a fixed straight one, but the advantage is really in the storage. When its folded, it stands upright and stable on the charging stand taking up little footprint. You can put in on the table and its not bad to look at. Indeed, it comes with some tapes to protect the shiny finish just as some electronics. There is an indicator light that blinks when its charging, so you know its in the right position when you put it back. Even when its fully charged, when you take it out of the base and put it back, the indicator will still blink a little. Very reassuring. Its very easy to empty the dirt, and very easy to take the filters off to wash. Indeed, you take the whole thing to wash, leaving the motor and battery with the handle. So you dont need to touch or go near the dirt, not that much. The models I used before all have some metal screws or something else near the suction tube or on the body that made it unsuitable to wash. The prefilter is semi-clear plastic and the inner filter is pleat. The inner filter looks like disposable filters but it is washable. If it doesnt go back to white or light grey after wash, it doesnt matter that much because I dont really have to touch it much if I dont want to. Theres even a pull up handle on the filter. The on-board tools make the price worthwhile. There are a narrow flat tube and a brush that you can pull out from the end of the suction tube. Very convenient and you wont ever need to find it. Even if its attached to the body on other models, the changing of it is a hassle. Yes, Im lazy. Not really, when you take a 10 sec to take off one tool and insert the other tool in, you could have completed the job on this one. I cant find any fault yet. But the plastic packing is not recyclable. Update: this thing is easily jammed with bigger things like pet food pellets. Its not the size of the pellets but the small volume of the collection cup. Even if the cup is not full, the pellets circulate around the container. Because of the compact design, the flap that prevents pellets going back out the tube opens into the path of the pellets inside. It doesnt take much solid trash to jam the tube so nothing goes inside the cup but remains inside the tube. When the motor stops those trapped pellets will flow out from the tube. Of course, theres no problem for dust and fine trash. Therefore I brought also the older model with 16V. The few volt difference isnt obvious during use. Sucking pet food pellet is shown in the listing pictures. One advantage is that this can be wall mounted and it doesnt take much vertical space because of the folded tube.

Ive had some crappy hand vacs around this price that did essentially nothing--but this one is amazing! Ive used it so much during this pet-shedding season, and its also great for vacuuming up baking soda on couches, bits of crumbled drywall/other home improvement detritus, and dusty corners. I havent used it in the car, yet, but I imagine itll be great for that, too. Its very low-profile, too, since it folds up for charging. (The adjustability of the vac is great, generally.) I havent tested it to the full length of its battery charge, but if youre using it for spot cleaning, that shouldnt be an issue.

I had one of the very old models of black & decker and the difference in suction is phenomenal. Only complaint I have is that I wish I came with a few attachments.
