Greater than one weekUsed this to hone four cylinders in a two-stroke outboard motor. Didn’t take long for the honing balls to start breaking off as they passed by the cylinder wall ports. Luckily the ball stems are plastic and didn’t damage the cylinder walls. Eventually got the job done, though, producing a nice crosshatch surface finish.

> 3 dayThese are the best brushes for honing your cylinder walls. I got nice 45 degree hone marks. It works VERY fast you put your drill on low speed and try to time it so you get the right degree of marks. It leaves a TON of residue so plan on power washing your block with cleaners. 3 to 5 passes is all it takes to clean up the walls. Remember you are removing glazing not boring your cylinder wall.

17-11-2024I used this to Bust the glaze on a 68mm bore, in a cast steel barrel of a motorcycle engine. It worked really well - 10 - 30 SAE Oil, 1,500 RPM for a few minutes, left a very smooth set of honing lines. BUT 1: you have to REALLY take time getting th e abrasive out of the barrel after the hone. and 2) I think you may need to run the devices for longer than I did, as the scoring marks were still evident after running in the Bke.
