My old wired gigabit switch was noticeably too hot, even when idle. When I heard about green switches, decided to retire the old furnace model and swap with a lower power replacement. So I decided to get this green switch - this works great and remains really cool to the touch. Under my moderate network load, if I feel the temperature of the switch or even its external power supply, I can hardly tell they are on. Just what I was looking for.

Overall, D-Link made a great gigabit switch. Its small, doesnt overheat, and feels well built. Im not technical when it comes to networking, so the most I can tell you about it is that for each port, there is a small light on the front top that lights up green if the connection is gigabit, and lights up orange if it isnt. The only downside to it is that when you plug Ethernet cables into it, you have to scoot if forwards a tad, other wise the cables tend to make it tilt back a little.

Works like a charm! We have all ports in use and have no issues!! So if you are looking for a good and inexpensive switch then this is the one for you.

Ive had a lot of great buys here on Amazon and this is easily one of my favorites. I was under the assumption that I would only be able to utilize one ethernet port at a time, like my HDMI switch. I was wonderfully mistaken. I currently have my DirecTV HD DVR receiver, 2 xbox 360s and a ps3 connected to this device. All work flawlessly. I have connected a third xbox 360 (replacing the ps3) and have enjoyed amazing multiplayer gaming sessions. Weve played games such as Mass Effect 3, Payday 2, GTA V, and Borderlands 2 together (with others across xbox live) with absolutely zero lag. I loved this product so much I bought a second one to add 2 PCs and another xbox to the network. The first one of these I bought was in December 2011! Again, ZERO problems. And FIY, my internet speed is between 15 Mbps and 18 Mbps (I pay for 15)

Pros: Low profile, quiet, green features, signals show whether the connection is 10-100Mbits or GB. Easy setup. Cons: None I can think of. Works like it should. The bandwidth is exactly the same through this switch as it is when connecting my router directly up to the computer. I like the feature of the green light showing a Gb connection vs amber for a 10-100Mbit connection. Stays relatively cool.

Have only had for a few days so I will update this review if anything goes wrong but so far this worked perfectly for a great price and with a very small footprint in my cabinet. Just open box, take off protective plastic, and plug it in. You then have five ethernet ports that you can connect and they will all talk to each other. Worked perfectly right out of the box and seems fast (it is supposed to be gigabit and I have no reason to suspect otherwise). I would buy this again if I needed another switch. It comes with the hardware for mounting on the wall and is about the size of a 100 page paperback book. It has a fancy curved top so you cant stack anything on top of it but it is so small it should probably be the item on the top of the stack anyways. Plus it is prettier than the rest of the items in the stack so why wouldnt you want it on top? Generally I have had good success with D-link and so far this appears to be another winner.

Plugged it in and it works as advertised. The most difficult part for me was running the hardwire through the walls to connect this to my router.

My old D-Link 8-port switch was another casualty to the lightning strike. This was smaller and lighter than the old switch, albeit the ports a bit closer together. Took off a star because if you wall mount it the manufacturers name and the port numbers are upside - down! (No you cant mount it the other way, they are keyhole mounting slots and hence have a definite up and down orientation!)

The D-Link 5-Port 10/100/1000 desktop switch (DGS-1005G) provides an excellent solution for expanding your Gigabit network. Gigabit speed is 10 times faster than a 100Mbps Fast Ethernet connection, enabling you to save time transferring bandwidth-intensive music, video, photos, graphic, and data files. By sharing the Internet, users can check e-mail, browse the web, chat with friends and family, and play online games using their own computer. To increase the functionality of your network, you can also add other Ethernet-enabled devices such as a print server, network-attached storage (NAS), and network camera.
