> 3 daythe previous version of this switch had a nice square case. Fits everywhere, can put something on top of it if you had to. worked well. its fine to update your electronics, but WHY THE GOOFY ROUND TOP??? i will buy a switch from somebody else. dont change something that works - like a normal square shape case.

Greater than one weekReally I would give 4.5 stars because of 1 flaw. The unit is amazingly small, sleek and the color blends well on darker furniture. The throughput seems very good. Unlike the early houshold switches that were more like hubs. Just 6 years ago I started using d-link for my household needs. I have replaced equipment but only for improved technology. I am very satisfied with durability and performance across the line. Now the flaw, I have 6 cat-6 cables attached in the rear and the front of the unit is not heavy enough to sit flat on the desk. The critical mass seems to be achieved on your third cable. I am sure I could group and support the cables at the rear, but annoying none the less.

> 3 dayJust received a batch of both the 5-port and 8-port D-Link Gigabit switches from this page, the new version of these switches keeps the same shape, but each is a bit smaller and the biggest difference is the type and placement of the power connector. The previous versions of these switches had a barrel type power connector on the back, right next to the network ports, this way if you place it on a shelf or on the edge of a desk, all the cables go out the back of the unit to keep cabling nice and neat. These newly designed switches have the power connector coming off the side of the unit, plus the power connector is a micro USB style connection. I have not put any of these in use yet, so I cant comment on how they perform, but was very displeased to see no mention of the change in the position of the power plug!

> 3 dayI needed at least one more ethernet port; the D-LInk works like a charm, was fairly inexpensive, and was easy to set up.

> 3 dayI ordered an open-box unit. It worked great for a week, but then it would go into these cycles of rebooting itself every 30 seconds. Thats bad, but worst of all we have IPTV from the phone company instead of cable. So the tv would freeze every 30 seconds while the switch rebooted itself. Maybe IPTV put too much strain on it? I have 2 more of these switches on my network (the 5-port versions) and no issues with them. I called D-Link tech support (off-shore) and they said theres nothing that can be done but returning it.

> 3 dayThis is great! I needed more connections and this gives that. Its worked great since installing. Works well with D-link DIR 655. It extends the wired connection to another room in my house and gives eight connections. This is easy to install.

> 3 dayI added another client to my network which needed to be wired. Unfortunately, I had no more room on my router so I decided to purchase this switch to expand my available ethernet ports. Overall, Ive been happy with no issues. Everything is working perfectly as it should. It does have a curved top which could be a con for some, but I personally like the design. I have it connected to my D-Link DIR-655 and its been one of the best setups Ive ever had. Skip the 5 port switch and jump strait to the 8 port, you wont be disappointed.

> 3 dayPlugged in my ethernet cables about a month ago into the D-Link DGS-1005G 5 port gigabit switch, and its worked flawlessly since then. I believe its the switch to buy for the following reasons: - Other users rated it as reliable (my reason for purchase), and its been so thus far for me (1 month and no reboots needed). - I like the sleek appearance - I liked its reported low power use (but I dont have any easy way of verifying that, so Ill trust them on that one). - Connection lights were bright enough in my flourescently lit media cabinet area - really our washer/dryer room (one user had reported them being dim) - Note that an amber connection light indicates a 100mb/s (instead of 1GB connection), which is useful, but was confusing at first because I thought it was trying to indicate an error
