Placed this near SmartThings hub. Install is very easy. Before it died (at about year 3) it worked most of time time. Periodically it would not sync properly with my hub and would seem to go missing. Factory reset and rejoining to hub would fix that issue. I will no longer deploy in-wall smart outlets, Id rather just use the more reliable and cheaper smart plugs that seem to be very reliable.

I replaced nearly 20 outles in my house with these and the smart switches. They worked wonderfully for awhile, but then about a year and some change in two of them just died. You could hear the little solenoid inside clicking constantly. Now several more years later and I have had to replace all of them. These things are terrible. DO NOT BUY. Several of them died after power failures from the electric company. When the power came back on, they were just clicking. Several of them died while not even in use. Most of my outlets are completely unused, so the failures are not attributable to anything even being plugged in at the time of failure.

    Greater than one week

Of the two outlets, one is always hot, the second outlet (near the ZWave logo) is what can be controlled remotely. I integrated this w/ the Samsung Smart Things. Placed one for controlling the Christmas Tree lights and the other above the kitchen cabinets to control a light strip. Went with an electrician to install, he had not expressed any issues with the installation. Pairing with Samsung Smart Things took about 2min. There is a button on the outlet that can be used to manually turn the second outlet on/off as well as pressing it in a pattern can reset the outlet to for pairing.

I’ve ordered this 4 times. 3 of them have been bad from day 1 of install. Unfortunately this is in a spot that is hard to access so replacing it is hard and I’ve often let it sit on the shelf for too long and then can’t even return under Amazons return policy. Total garbage.

Packaging was fine, installation was easy enough and it pairs up with an add on Z-Wave hub and Home Assistant easily enough. However, they dont really advertise that only the bottom plug is smart and the top one always on. Looking back after I bought it it wasnt really described in the regular description which feels pretty misleading thus the 3-star rating. If I had known it was only going to be half smart I would have probably just gotten a cheaper single outlet addon plug instead.

Ive had two of these installed for almost a year. Theyre good products. One of them started having intermittent problems. I contacted GE support and found it reasonably easy to get a warranty replacement. They stated that the replacement would cancel the balance of the warranty. I think thats acceptable. But the replacement unit was defective. The ground terminal screw was over-torqued and the ground terminal was pressed into the body. It was impossible to connect the ground lead. I think they sent me a unit that somebody else had returned. As previously stated, I had used my warranty. I had no choice but to buy a new one. Its OK if a product isnt quite perfect. But sending bad units out as warranty replacements is poor form.

Would be perfect device if power monitoring was added.

I have several wifi plugs and switches and no hubs. I wanted one to install into the wall instead of plugging into the outlet. Good reviews, didnt read that I needed a Z-Wave Hub. Had to purchase that too. Since it was already installed, bit the bullet and bought the hub. Terrible to setup, finally after five tries it started working. It works now. But, with the expense of the switch and hub, its not really cost effective. Lesson learned, READ EVERYTHING.

I have purchased this particular outlet twice, and both have failed after 2-3 years. At a lower price point I could justify buying them as disposable but not at $50...

when your other half tells you we need this ... you just get it. no question asked. well, this is one of the items that i have no clue, what he needed it for. i guess it’s great product, so far no complains. shipping was fast too.
