I bought this to use for my detached barn so I can remotely command my tractors block heater (~900 watts) to turn on from the comfort of my lazyboy over a hot cup of coffee. I use two meshed Hubitat Elevation C7 smart hubs and have it tied into Google Home, so the Hubitat app on my phone or my voice can turn it on or off. I used it several times over the past winter and it did exactly what I bought it for; love it.

If you want to have to buy them all again in 26 months and have to go through the hassle of replacing them, these are the outlets for you. Otherwise stay clear. I have 15 of these and they are ALL dead. None lasted more than 29 months. Total garbage. Trying the Leviton brand ones now.

I have gotten into Smart Technology early on and have been fortunate to try many different switching devices. These GE products have always been/are the closest to what you are replacing, come with White and Almond decorative covers. They connect easily, are reliable and you can get them at Lowes AND Amazon close y to the same price now. Sometimes a bit cheaper on Amazon.. I use with Samsung Smarthings Hub and Echo (for voice control)....

The unit lasted for 4 years, then suddenly stopped working. The z-wave functionality was gone, and the z-wave controlled bottom outlet no longer worked at all. Interestingly enough, all of my older units from the same company(before z-wave plus - GE 45605) are still going strong.

Yeah, I know there are outdoor rated Z-Wave AC sockets but all I see are in a cord dongle which isnt what I want. Seems most all Z-Wave products arent rated below freezing. My tractor shed isnt heated so Im going to find out if this works anyway. Be nice to be able to turn on the tractor engine block heater remotely before going out snow plowing...

I’m a DIY’er and I prefer to follow same methods as electricians do which is to not use the push in method, and instead wrap the wire around the screws in the proper direction and secure that way. I was unable to do so and almost appears that the screws do not serve any purpose other than tightening after wire is pushed into holes. I’m sure it is fine, but I prefer the traditional way. And even if you could, you’d have to tilt it on its side. Hard to explain. I don’t think the GE engineers ever installed an outlet. As for performance, I have it connected to my Smart Things hub along with many other devices and this keeps unsyncing. I bought it specifically for where the Christmas tree always goes. I’ll return after Xmas and buy the Lutron or Leviton one instead.

Placed this near SmartThings hub. Install is very easy. Before it died (at about year 3) it worked most of time time. Periodically it would not sync properly with my hub and would seem to go missing. Factory reset and rejoining to hub would fix that issue. I will no longer deploy in-wall smart outlets, Id rather just use the more reliable and cheaper smart plugs that seem to be very reliable.

This isnt a review of the outlet, per se, but a frustration that this smart outlet is only available as a single pole outlet. As best I can tell no one makes a dual pole z-wave smart outlet, which is frustrating. Im sure I would have loved the item if I only had a single pole outlet. I cannot speak to Alexa Integration, leading me to the three star rating. If you make a dual pole smart outlet I will purchase it!

There is one feature I miss in this outlet: it does not measure the power consumption, which I was hopping to get for my automations. Besides this, not complains.

I have several wifi plugs and switches and no hubs. I wanted one to install into the wall instead of plugging into the outlet. Good reviews, didnt read that I needed a Z-Wave Hub. Had to purchase that too. Since it was already installed, bit the bullet and bought the hub. Terrible to setup, finally after five tries it started working. It works now. But, with the expense of the switch and hub, its not really cost effective. Lesson learned, READ EVERYTHING.
